As we begin to see signs of spring here at Kawkawa after a long winter, the excitement of a busy spring and summer season is growing. Plans for our summer camps are well underway and we have lots of rental groups in the next couple of months to keep us all busy until summer arrives. This month we welcomed a new full-time member of staff (find out more about him on page 3), and in the next few weeks we will also have a few spring staff joining us. The site has been a hive of activity as maintenance, updates and developments continue (read more about this on page 2). I will SING & make music to the LORD THIS FRIDAY!!! 2 Sports Court SITE UPDATE Our volunteers have been kept really busy over the winter months with general repairs/upkeep of the site, repairing damage caused by the flooding in Novermber 2017, and progressing with other exciting projects to help develop the amazing site that we have here at Kawkawa. A significant amount of damage was done to our playing field during the flood repairs to the Director's house, so the last number of weeks have been spent re-levelling this and seeding it with new grass. We are hopeful that a few weeks of sunshine and some rain will have this looking green again! The building of a number of new sets of bunk beds is underway to fill 2 cabins which are currently undergoing renovations. The Cabent For now, the cabent holds the name Chalet 405 and is undergoing a long-awaited renovation. It was once the least desirable location in camp, but the intent is to make it into one of the most desirable locations! It will have sleeping for 10, full washroom and a kitchenette. It is hoped that this cabin will be a destination for youth group leadership and staff planning events! The sports court area is a 100' x 55' levelled area sitting just above the upper parking lot. We were able to leave many of the surrounding trees and the court h a s a m a g n i f i c e n t v i e w overlooking the playing field and lake. Initial set-up costs for geot e c h a n d s i t e p r e p h a v e exceeded the $25,000 we had budgeted for phase one of the court, and so for this summer we will be placing sand on the playing surface rather than cement. We will look to raise additional funds to secure the cement surface and foundation needed for the building structure of phase two. The Studio The cabin, affectionally known as 'The Studio', has had many functions over the years. We are now renovating it to make it into a 5th cottage. It will have 4 sets of bunk beds for the spring and then we hope to add a washroom in the near future.

3 Meet Zach We would like to introduce our newest full-time member of staff, Zach Stockli, known by many as Muffin. Zach joined our team at the beginning of April and we are excited to have him here at Kawkawa. He is no stranger to Kawkawa, however, having spent 2 years here as a camper/ work crew/lit and then 6 years on our summer staff. Zach, share with us a little bit about what you have been doing over the last 8 months. Last year God very swiftly removed all of the anchors keeping me in Canada and I was able to take a leap of faith and do a YWAM (Youth With A Mission) discipleship training program in New Zealand. I was a student in the Medical Compassion DTS (Discipleship Training School). I was in New Zealand for 3 months on the lecture phase then I spent 2 months in Vanuatu on my Medical Compassion Outreach. Tell us what has brought you back to Kawkawa, this time in a full-time capacity? While on my medical missions outreach in Vanuatu, Wayne and Dave offered me the new position at Kawkawa. As I was hesitating to answer, God used someone from Canada to go to Vanuatu to preach at church and give me His blessing to say yes! What is your new role at Kawkawa? I am the new site facilities manager. I am in charge of a combination of improving and maintaining the site, along with hosting groups and most of all keeping God at the centre of it all. What are you excited about? I'm excited about being back in this amazing place I get to call home, working with amazing people, and living everything I learned while at YWAM and allow that to flow through me and hopefully change lives.

4 SUMMER CAMP 2018 Summer registration is open and camps are filling up well. Our LIT program is now full and the work crew program for year olds looks like it is going to be very popular again this year. We have an incredible team of staff in place and are excited about how God is going to work through them this summer. Please pray for all the program planning, for the kids that will come to camp, for our staff, and for the weekly speakers as they prepare to share with campers on the theme of MISSION SURVIVE. And may we all be challenged anew by our theme verse from Joshua 1:9: "Th is is my command - Be strong & courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. CALLING ALL LIFEGUARDS We still require lifeguards for our spring season as well as through the summer camps. We are seeking young people with a passion for kids, who love camp and are NLS certified.
