We might think, Great in theory, but not always realistic! Then Jesus in today s Gospel goes even further. Take a slap in the face and then turn the other cheek? Treat enemies the same as friends? Again, we re tempted to think that those are nice ideals, but not very practical in the real world. Paul echoes Jesus when he tells the Corinthians that what passes for human wisdom is absurdity to God. Divine wisdom casts sunshine on the good and the bad, showers rain on the honest and the dishonest--without distinction. We must examine our wisdom and common sense to see how they compare to the wisdom of God, and make adjustments accordingly. QUESTION OF THE WEEK Key Passage Jesus said, You have heard that it was said, You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy. But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you. (Matthew 5:43 44a) Adult: What is the point of turning the other cheek in an argument, and why is it so hard to do? Child: Who are the people you find it most difficult to forgive? NEXT SUNDAY S READINGS First Reading -- God will never forget you (Isaiah 49:14-15) Psalm -- Rest in God alone, my soul (Psalm 62). I am more convinced than ever that this appeal by the Archdiocese is a vital lifeline for so many of our parishes and schools that are struggling to keep their doors open. Although I spoke about the schools and all the good work that these funds do for the schools, there are also parishes that receive help for many unforeseen expenses that they don t have financial ability to address. Jim Clarke talking on EVANGELIZATION Fr. Clarke is the Director of Evangelization for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, adjunct professor at LMU and retreat master. He has been involved in Men s ministry for 20 years. He holds master s degrees in divinity, counseling and religious education and a doctorate in mythology. Please contact the Parish Office at by Monday, February 27 if you plan to attend so that seating and hospitality can be arranged. St. Julie s Society of St. Vincent De Paul Pantry needs this week are as follows: Peanut Butter and Jelly Tuna, Canned Meat Small Bags of Ground coffee Pasta Sauce Pancacke Mix and Syrup and boxed Macaroni and Cheese. These items are not usually available through the FoodShare program so it is through donations that we obtain these items for this in need. St. Vincent de Paul says Thank You! St. Vincent de Paul, is grateful to all who donated this past quarter to help the poor and needy. With your donations we are able to reach out to our local community and offer a helping hand and listening ear to those in need. We are able to help with basic needs incuding rental assistance, utilities and transportaion. We are also able to add food pantry items that are needed on a daily basis to serve the hungry in our community. Last quarter our collection was $ Each quarter we are always amazed at the generosity of St. Julie s! We are so grateful to each and every one of you! Not only for the the donations of monies and food for our pantry, but also for your continued prayers to support us in our mission. Inspired by Gospel values the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, a Catholic lay organization, leads women and men to join together to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to the needy and suffering in the tradition of its founder, Blessed Frederic Ozanam, and its patron, St. Vincent de Paul.

Youth Ministry Director: Daryl Hitt (805) ext. 104 During the season of Lent, The University Series offers a multitude of seminars connecting faith with real life in areas such as current events, contemporary moral issues, evangelization, faith and science, marriage and family, church history, scripture, prayer, and other priorities set by the Los Angeles Archdiocesan Synod. Sessions include multi-media presentations and always allow time for your questions. Presentations are held at 12 participating parishes from St. Mel in Woodland Hills to Simi Valley, Moorpark, Conejo Valley, Camarillo, and Ventura. Our faculty has extensive knowledge in their fields and love teaching. They include international authorities, priests, religious, professors, authors, lay people, and local favorites who are all passionate about helping students grow in knowledge and faith. March 2 - April 7 - The University Series courses are in session. Last week we issued a challenge to all parishioners to just drop into the Adoration Chapel at any time during the week for as much or as little time as you needed to find a little peace and quiet and enjoy one-on-one time with God. We ve been asked if there s anything special to do when you go to Adoration. So here s a question back to you- -what do you do when you get together with your best friend? You share the high and the low moments in your life, you share the everyday things, you listen to their advice, you find joy just in being together. Well guess what- -that s exactly what you do in adoration. It s your time to come face-to-face with God in order to deepen that friendship. That s all. So why not take the challenge? It may be difficult to understand why an abuse victim does not come forward immediately to report an assault. For those who have suffered sexual assault or abuse, denial can be a powerful defense mechanism, one that allows them to cope with the trauma and its aftermath. Often, an abuser is someone the victim knows and trusts, which makes it even harder to understand why the abuse is happening, and harder to come forward and ask for help and protection.
