We offer a quality preschool program in a Christian atmosphere here at First United Methodist Church. There are children in our neighborhood and in our congregation who would not be able to attend any preschool, were it not for the help of scholarships. In July your loose coin offering and any designated gifts will help a child get a head start on not only their ABC s, but their God Loves Me s. Let God change the world through you, and your change. The original title of this hymn is Zion, or the City of God. It is based on Isaiah 33:20-21 and gives a general notion of the state of the redeemed in the Kingdom of God. It is important to establish the identity of Zion and to understand Newton s use of the name. Zion was originally a Jebusite stronghold in the southern part of what was to become the city of Jerusalem. David conquered it, and it became known as the City of David. Later, the name Zion came to be used as a synonym for Jerusalem as a whole. In the New Testament, the term Mount Zion is used to reference New Jerusalem, the heavenly city where the throne of God is found. The writer of Hebrews uses this term to make a contrast between the Old Covenant (the Law of Israel) and the New Covenant established through the shed blood of Christ. In the heavenly Jerusalem the redeemed are gather bed with the angelic hosts, brought by grace into the presence of God. AUSTRIAN HYMN, composed by Franz Joseph Haydn, was written for the birthday of the Austrian emperor Franz den Kaiser in February Haydn was inspired to write a national anthem for his people after having heard "God Save the King" at Westminster Abbey in The composer enjoyed the hymn so much he used it as the subject of the second movement of the String Quartet, Opus 76, No. 3 in C. Some say he played this piece last before his death. Haydn, a devout Christian, was grateful to God for his talents. He prefaced all his compositions with the words "In nomine Domini" ("In the Name of the Father"), and ended them with "Laus Deo" ("Praise to the Lord"). Pine Lake Mission Trip Please pray for the youth mission team traveling to Pine Lake Camp today. They will be buddies to campers who are differently-abled. The team includes Briana Smet, Jamison Taft, Loken Malin, Madi Blank, Noah Key, Lauren Mainard, Isaac Muscavitch, Rhyan Peed, Brenda Key, Karen Mainard, Lisa Malmberg, and Diane Wilson.
