2 NOBC NEWS PAGE 2 MAY, 2018 From my heart Delight in God and His church Jesus declared: I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry and he who believes in me will never be thirsty; John 6:35 In David Platt s Follow Me study, he references Jonathan Edwards, who is considered by many to be America s greatest theologian. Never one to pull punches, Edwards disliked the way some churches and Christians of his day had become carried away with highly emotional worship services that were devoid of God s Word. He also disliked the way other churches and Christians claimed to hold tightly to the Word of God while their worship lacked any real emotion. Edwards believed it was a mistake to attempt any separation between doctrinal truth and legitimate emotion, he claimed it was impossible to have one without the other. While it s never hard to talk about God s Word or to plan a worshipful time in His house, it is sometimes difficult to bring that together when so many are missing from the family. When life is great, we should find ourselves wanting to share that joy with other members of the family and when things are not going well, we should automatically seek to be in His house with each other. According to Edwards, faith should fuel feeling and we should delight in God regardless of circumstances because we have the promise of His presence. Platt says Therefore, as disciples of Jesus, we intentionally worship, pray, fast and give in order to fuel our affection for God. True followers of Christ gladly use our lips and our lives to lift up the One we love above all others. We delight in worshiping God. There is a connection between our faithful fellowship with the Family and our affection for God. When we spend time together in worship and fellowship, the communion of our spirits with His brings great joy. While some of the Family is absent because of illness or other circumstances, many have just found, what they feel are, better things to do. Yes, summer is a time for vacation, recreation and rest and that is necessary to be a healthy believer but it should never take the place of time spent in the Word, in the House and with the Family of God. Pastor Stan Stewart We really do need each other and your presence is an encouragement to teachers, worship leaders, to me and to other believers. Wednesdays, throughout the summer, are another opportunity to spend time together as we sing and experience the greatest preachers of all time with three movies interspersed. (see the schedule on page 6). And of course, our regular Sunday services, Bible studies and fellowship opportunities. So take your vacation, relax and renew but don t forget the opportunities to worship and to fellowship with the family here. And that, will delight God! OPEN SUNDAYS - BEFORE AND IN-BETWEEN SERVICES Chonda Pierce and True Woman 201 coming soon! By Kristin Ekker Titus 2 Leader Christian comedienne Chonda Pierce, will be in Brooksville on Thursday, May 10. We would like to take a group of 10 or more for the special rate of $24 per person. Less than 10, is $27 per person. The show begins at 7 PM. We will be carpooling but I need to know who wants to go! Please call or text me at or me at kaekker@gmail.com. True Woman 201: Interior Design will begin on May 24th at 6:30 PM. We have been having supper together and then having a video and discussion of the Bible study. Child care is available but I need to know ahead of time if it is needed. Come and join us in this in-depth study of what God wants to do in the lives of women! I hope to see you there!

3 NOBC NEWS TeamKID, a new program and VBS make NOBC a great place for kids! By Jenn Sloane Children s Ministry Director April was a great month in NOBC Children s Ministries. In TeamKID we did another Bible science object lesson night. The kids loved it.. They love learning about Jesus through hands on activities. In the first experiment they learned that God can make you pure - like freshly fallen snow. In Isaiah 1:18 and 1 John 1:9, Jesus promises that He will wash our sins away and make us as pure and white as snow. The kids made snow using equal amounts of cornstarch and shaving cream. The next experiment taught the children that God can always lift us up no matter what. The third experiment taught them that we need to grow in Jesus. This month we also started Faith Explorers during the morning worship hour on Sundays. This new program teaches the children the importance of prayer and tithing and they will also learn the books of the Bible through song. I am very excited about Vacation Bible School coming up in July. We are still looking for volunteers to help with the week as well as some items for crafts. Please see me or me at nobckids@gmail.com and I will get with you. PAGE 3 MAY, 2018

4 NOBC NEWS PAGE 4 MAY, 2018 You are invited to the picnic! GOLDEN FELLOWSHIP PICNIC We are looking forward to our annual picnic at Sheffield s on the River in May. The picnic is scheduled for May 12. Lunch will begin around noon depending on when the hot dogs and hamburgers are ready to go on the buns. Fellowship begins earlier and Bobby Loftin usually takes at least one group of early arrivals on a boat ride on the Rainbow River before lunch. We always hope for sunny days but we will enjoy the day even if the sunshine is the liquid variety. Come, bring a covered dish (salad or dessert) and enjoy an absolutely fabulous way to enjoy the company of friends. Incidentally, this is also a good time to bring friends and introduce them to our church family. See you on the 12 th. NURSING HOME MINISTRY We had a good session at Brentwood in April in spite of some hiccups. Our songbooks were left in Kathie s office so we sang the first verse of a number of very familiar hymns (from memory, of course). Seventeen residents were in the service and we saw smiles on faces as we sang words that mean so much to all of us. There will not be a service in May because the second Sunday is Mother s Day. The clowns will be taking a flower to the ladies who reside in the nursing home. We will return to our regular schedule on June 10 at 2:00 PM. Come and join us. We always have a good time and receive a great blessing from this way we serve the Lord. PRAYER MINISTRY Our prayer chain continues to alert folks about immediate and urgent needs. One of the observations that Pastor Stan has made recently is that a great many of the members of our fellowship have medical issues. Illness, surgeries and long-term disabilities affect many of the people in our congregation and also affect our loved ones and friends. There are also the other things that happen in life when those needs emerge, it is important to pray for God to meet those needs. Charlotte Hamilton is our first point of contact for putting prayer needs in an . An easy way to get your request sent out is to Charlotte (winchar54@embarqmail.com). If you are unable to do that, call Kathryn in the church office, tell her the need and she will contact either Charlotte or Pastor Charles to send it to everyone. By the way, you can also use the e- mail prayer chain to send praise reports for the answers received. It always helps to build our faith when we learn about God s answers to our prayers. SUNDAY SCHOOL I know I sound like a broken record sometimes but I think all of us need to learn more about God s Word. One of the places that can happen is in Sunday School. As old as I am and as deep as my involvement in Bible study has been, I find I am still discovering new truths. One thing that intrigues me is that I learn something new every time I teach a lesson. I don t know a single person who already knows all there is to know about the Bible. What I am saying is that I don t know a single person who would not benefit from being immersed in intensive Bible study on a regular basis. So, if you are already attending, look around and find someone that needs to be invited to the class you attend. If you don t already have a class to call your own, check us out. DR. CHARLES HAYES, ASSOCIATE PASTOR SENIOR ADULT MINISTRIES THURSDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDY We are nearing the end of our study of Bible Prophecy about the future. We hope to finish the Book of Revelation by the end of May. Then, we will take a short summer vacation before starting the Book of Ezekiel. Class meets at 10:00 AM on Thursday mornings in Rooms 8 and 9 in the sanctuary building. Come and join us. It can be fun and it is another excellent way to increase your knowledge about the things of the Lord. ON A LIGHTER NOTE Here s something to think about. Why is it that a pastor s sermon can be sent around the world in a matter of a few seconds but it might take years for the same pastor to pound a simple concept through the quarter of an inch of skull of some members? And, here s a thought to ponder. If you are talented you be volunteered for everything. But, if you are REALLY talented, you ll be able to get out of it. And, finally, I found a good excuse for dozing off during the sermon. It is because someone made the coffee in the Welcome Center with decaf instead of hi-test. Get involved in community outreach Part of our 2018 PASSION is to reach out to our community and we have several ways you can be involved in that. Beyond the Bread offers non-food items on the 4th Saturday of every month from 10 AM - 12 noon. Always in need of donations, financial is better as we can purchase in quantity at better prices We also suggest that you mention this opportunity to those you may meet. There is no obligation to attend our church however, each person will go away with the gospel message!

5 NOBC NEWS Page 5 MAY, 2018 Usher Spotlight Ken Takacs Ken Takacs is our usher in the Spotlight this month. Ken has been a member of NOBC since 2014 and one of our faithful ushers serving our church for the past several years. Ken is a U.S. Navy veteran and is retired from the graphics industry. Originally from New York, he currently lives with his wife, Faviola, in Pine Ridge. Along with ushering, Ken has participated in the church production of The Journey. He is known by his friends for his masterful culinary skill and his Christmas display extravaganza he and his wife put up every year. Each month, I will be featuring one of our dedicated ushers so that you can get to know them better. We appreciate their faithful service! -John Biuk, Usher Chairman Good News Club has a great year at CSES By Lee Lane Good News Club Director Good News Club taught the gospel of Jesus Christ to 70 students for the school year, with 27 salvations. Daniel, a second grader understands fully the importance of GNC and its message, he designed his own T-shirt and was one of the children who came forward to accept Jesus as his Savior. We received many thank yous and praises from the parents for bringing GNC to CSES and spoke highly of how their children are looking forward to next year.
