15 mission community John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist movement once said the world is my parish. There are many ways that United Methodists in the United States and around the globe engage in mission to serve our brothers and sisters in our worldwide parish. Several of our study and fellowship groups take on local mission projects throughout the year, which include things like helping with the Sumner Food Bank andproviding new backpacks and school supplies for children at the beggining of each school year. United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is another way to be involved in mission. UMCOR volunteers travel the world and stay for a few days, a few weeks, or a few months to assist in places of disaster. Imagine No Malaria is another mission of the worldwide church that aims to reduce infection and malaria related deaths throughout the African continent. We know that church can happen anywhere, and not just on our campus. Sumner Church participates in many local events each year. Our church plays an active role in our community. In addition to community events, we have opened our doors to several community groups, inlcuding: Boy Scouts of America Alcoholics Anonymous/Friends of Bill W. Al-Anon Nacrotics Anonymous TOPS (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly) If your calling is to help plan and facilitate community events or be a liaison between community groups and the church councuil, we invite you to share that talent with us.
