2 Fire Marshals Chris Compton and Warren Sigmen did a terrific job of informing Seniors on the Go how to live safely when the group met for their monthly luncheon in November. Hostesses were Lois McDowell, Lila Mulkey, Rella Helms and Marilyn Gouldy. Forty-seven members attended including visitors Dan Monday and Jeff White. Among the many helpful hints the fire marshals spoke on were: in order to keep from falling, a major cause of hospitalization and other resulting complications: keep a path free for walking; have non slip rugs; wear shoes that won t slip or trip; use a cane if needed; have a non-slip rubber mat in the bath tub. Another troublesome topic addressed was fire prevention and control. Don t leave a cooking fire unattended. If there is a fire, if possible, either put a lid on the pan or put it in the oven and close the door. Also keep a fire extinguisher nearby. Be aware that too many appliances plugged into one socket are hazardous. Make sure smoke detectors are less than 10 years old. It is desirable to have one of these in the living area, and in each bedroom, and have them interconnected if possible. Finally, have a plan of escape with a designated meeting place in case of fire. Beside your bed have eyeglasses, meds, phone, flashlight and walker for any emergency. The speakers concern for Moore citizens was evident. Tommy Throckmorton presided over the business meeting. Gerald Krows announced the group who made the recent trip to Israel would be putting together a program for presentation in January. Since his responsibility for that trip is over, he offered to once again volunteer in helping plan this group s tours, and his offer was accepted. Home for the Holidays is December 9th. Lila Mulkey, hospitality chair, sent cards to Betty White, to Don and Pearl Quenzer in the loss of their son, to Sally Arline, and to Landon Heath recovering from foot surgery. To report other illnesses, call Join this group for good food and welcoming fellowship on the second Thursday of the month. Our Common Threads ministry team continues to crochet prayer shawls for men and women. They have been prayed over while being crocheted. They are now available to you for gifting to someone who is in need of prayer. Whether someone you know is going through a rough patch, hurting, grieving, healing or is celebrating a momentous occasion in their life. We want them to feel the warmth of God s love wrapped around them. Christmas may be a difficult time for some, these are available to gift to someone this Christmas season so that they may feel the warmth of God s love at this time. Please feel free to choose a prayer shawl from the case in the main office hallway. Our only request is that you fill out the form with the prayer shawl #, your name and who you are gifting it to. Enjoy being able to share His love with others. 2

5 Thanksgiving has come & gone & we are approaching many Christians favorite time of the year. Your UMW worked diligently all year to support missions involving women, children & youth. Different Circles met with the Agape youth throughout the year to enjoy a supper & spend time together. Many of the forgotten & lonely in a local nursing home needed to know that someone remembered their birthday with a piece of cake & even a song to celebrate the occasion. Once in a while, it involved a meal to welcome our new clergy or a passle of hungry Wesley Foundation college students working to repair & prepare The Well in south OKC. Sometimes it involved providing a meal for families grieving the loss of a dear loved one. Even though everyone knows most Methodists can t meet longer than 10 minutes without some form of food, UMW isn t all about fabulous church dinners & other food related opportunities. UMW also hosts an All Daughters Banquet & an annual Fall Festival. Both of these events give other groups in our church the opportunity to spread the Good Word about all the wonderful things this church strives to do, for not only our congregation, but the community as well. These events allow other groups in the church to support their missions & causes in turn. Thanks to your generous donations, we donated to The Circle of Care, the Boys Ranch, the Children s Home, Child S.H.A.R.E., OKC, & the Holsinger Home. However, it doesn t end there. Donations go to Neighborhood Services Organization (NSO), Cookson Hills Indian Mission, OK Indian Missionary Conference, Skyline Ministries, Youth Force V.I.M., Moore 1 st Youth Mission Team, Criminal Justice & Mercy Ministries, TEEM, Wesley Foundation Campus Ministries, Moore 1 st Local Alms Fund, & Project Transformation. These are all local social involvement. We are taking care of our neighbors here in Oklahoma with your help. Thank you again. We could not do this without you. Throughout the year as we worked, played, & prayed together over all the events that have unfolded, we have been able to witness firsthand God s Plan for each of us & this wonderful blessing of our church family. We count our church family & their love & support as one of our abundant blessings the Lord has bestowed on us. Moore 1 st is United in His Word with Love in our Hearts & Action in His Ministry. As UMW members, we are pleased to be a part of this vibrant, growing, mission-minded church. A final thought As this season gets busier by the minute between family, work, & other obligations, think about blessing others with a priceless gift of your time. It can be a call, text, card, or even a visit. None of these suggestions will bust your budget but will make you richer than imagined in this season. The forgotten, the marginal, the unloved need us now more than ever. Bestow God s love where you feel that He is directing you. Remembering the reason for the season! God Bless You & Keep You, Your UMW

6 Gift giving at Christmas can be such a stressful experience. Did I pick out the right size, right color? Do they have this already? Will they like it? What if I spent too much and they feel awkward? What if I spent too little and I feel awkward? What if I spend so much that I don t have any left for my bills? What if I don t have any extra money to begin with? And then there s the issue of, when do I shop? How crowded will the stores be and what if they are out of stock? BAH HUMBUG! Is this why God sent us this beautiful baby Jesus? The good news is NO! The gift of Jesus is truly the only gift we need! And what we really want to give each other at Christmas is the LOVE we have from Jesus. Did you know that everyone feels loved in different ways? There are actually 5 Love Languages. (Words of Affirmation, Quality Time, Physical Touch, Acts of Service and Gifts) In my family, there is only one person whose love language is gifts! The rest will be happy with what they receive but would feel more loved if we wrote in a booklet why they means so much to us, took time to play a game with them, scratched their backs every night for a week (hint hint family!), or organized or cleaned their room for them. This takes so much stress out of the gift giving and allows us to shower them with love in the most meaningful way next to sharing Jesus with them! Give the gift of LOVE this Christmas! Sharing love this Christmas! Return line and exchange policy beats all! Richelle Leibold Director of Outreach and Welcome Ministries 4 SOUL FOOD Feeding your appetite physically, mentally We offer a healthy option for those who are trying to follow a lower calorie, diabetic friendly or heart healthy diet. Adam Shahan, and Tuesday mornings at 10:00 led by Amy Graves & Richelle Leibold. The Redemption of Scrooge, written by Matt Rawle, is part of the Pop in Culture Series. Participants will meet the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come and learn about living with and for others in a world blessed by Jesus. A great way that our church helps you while helping our ministries. We have gift cards available each Sunday and Wednesday for you to purchase. Families are invited to join us on Wednesday - December 7 & 14 at 6 pm as we prepare gifts to give and learn about important Advent symbols. On Wednesday, December 21, immediately following Soul Food, we will divide into groups and go caroling as a church family. During this time we will also share the gifts we have prepared with many of our home-bound members. All ages are welcome to attend! Each evening a short story and Christmas Carols will be shared during the Soul Food meal. Beginning at 6, families may travel together to the Fellowship Hall to work on the preparation of gifts.
