Baptist Home Church Mission statement and Core Values MISSION STATEMENT - THE MISSION OF BAPTIST HOME CHURCH IS TO BE A CHURCH PASSIONATE ABOUT SHARING THE GOSPEL, BY LOVING CHRIST AND LOVING OUR COMMUNITY FOR HIS KINGDOM AND HIS GLORY. CORE VALUES 1. The Gospel We believe the message of Jesus Christ s life, death and resurrection is God's power for salvation. Therefore, we believe and proclaim everybody needs to hear the gospel. 2. Generosity - We believe we are gifted to give: Giving reflects our love for Christ and love for community. 3. Growth - We believe every follower of Christ should grow in their faith and knowledge of Jesus Christ and to reflect His glory, His wisdom and His life. The goal is to become like Jesus Christ. 4. Going - We exist for something greater than ourselves. Therefore, every believer is to be on mission to reach the lost and impact the culture for Christ. 5. Glorify - We exist to glorify God through our worship, through our lives and through our witness. VISION STATEMENT - OUR VISION IS TO MAKE DISCIPLES FOR CHRIST, WHILE MAKING A HOME FOR DISCIPLES. I believe that the document above not only defines who we are, but it also defines where we are going. I encourage you to embrace the truth and heart of this document. Commit to living these out as a church, and believe God that He will use us in a mighty way to advance His kingdom. In a world of peer pressure and mixed messages, teenagers battle the constant temptation to fall into the trap of saying one thing while doing another.

2 Student Ministry On Wednesday nights, the student ministry has begun a sixweek study from the book of James. Parents of teenagers sense the disconnect that often occurs between what teenagers say they believe and how they live what they believe throughout their lives. In a world of peer pressure and mixed messages, teenagers battle the constant temptation to fall into the trap of saying one thing while doing another. The reason a study in the book of James is so important is because of its straight, inyour-face message that offers teenagers a practical look into their actions lining up with their words. James puts forth a simple idea: our actions should match our beliefs. So, a study in James is designed to help teenagers think through what it means to demonstrate a vivid faith in an unclear world. We can do this through the power of the Holy Spirit within us. Here is a description from YouthMinistry360: This study will challenge students to evaluate their faith and their actions, to identify where the two don t match up, and to make the necessary changes to live a life of a vivid faith. During the next six weeks your child will learn about: the struggle with sin that lives in every Christ-follower the danger of showing favoritism to those who are easy to like the importance of spiritual fruit in our lives the power of words the futility of trying to love the world and God the importance of submitting to God s leadership As always, there are follow-up devotions on our social media pages, The Refuge on Facebook and bhc refuge.students on Instagram, that you can encourage your students to participate in to help them think further about the things we discuss. Also, if you would like an overview of what we study and some follow-up suggestions to continue the conversation with your teenager, please contact me. Our student ministry wants to lead students to be powerful witnesses to a watching world through living a vivid faith. Please be praying for our ministry and your teenagers as we challenge them to live what they claim to believe. Hometown Kids February 2018 It s February and the immediate thought that comes to mind when this month is mentioned is VAL- ENTINES day and all matters of the heart.

5 Hometown Kids February 2018 It s February and the immediate thought that comes to mind when this month is mentioned is VAL- ENTINES day and all matters of the heart. With that in mind, I share with you this writing from the book Rock Solid Children s Ministry by Larry Fowler. The eighteenth-century preacher Dubner Maggid of Poland is credited with the following story: I was walking through the woods, and to my astonishment came upon tree after tree with a target drawn upon it. In every target, an arrow had pierced the very center of the bull s eye. I then met a little boy with a bow in his hand. I asked him, did you shoot these arrows? Yes, he replied. Amazed that such a young boy could be such an accomplished archer, I pressed for more information. What is your secret? How did you get to be so good as to hit the exact center every time? The boy replied: It was easy. I shot the arrow first and drew the target around it afterward. Ah! How many times in the ministry of the church, do we do this? Figuratively, we select our ministry arrow, engage all our strength into pulling back our bow and then release that ministry effort without ever carefully considering where we are aiming? And then, afterward, proclaim, It was a success because we drew the target AFTER the fact? It is much better to see the target BEFORE our events, BEFORE our programs are launched and BEFORE we expend ministry energy. What is the TARGET we are aiming for in the Children s Ministry of Baptist Home Church? It s the HEART of the child. We do a lot of activities and lessons at Hometown Kids. My calendar is full and I am making plans for those activities way in advance of their starting. We have a lot of fun at Hometown Kids. We try to adjust and do things that the kids love to do. I had a discussion with the kids not too long ago where I asked THEM what THEY wanted to do. I was thrilled when they started naming off Bible topics that they wanted to study and throwing out ideas for us to try. I love to see them learn, but I don t want it to be JUST head knowledge. Aiming at the heart is strategic. It takes patience and practice to hit the bullseye. My prayer is that we will hit the bullseye consistently in our ministry and that it won t be just a shot in the dark. Every activity Every lesson...every Teacher Every time we are together our goal is a BULLSEYE.and the BULLSEYE is the HEART of the child. Happy HEART day.
