Baptist Home Family, It is impossible to put into words our expression of appreciation and love for the ways that you have showered your love on Tammie and myself. We are humbled by your words of encouragement and extremely grateful for every card and every act of kindness that you have sent our way. Thank you so every much. It is both and honor and a joy to serve alongside of you, as we seek to advance the Kingdom of God. It is a joy to ask that the Lord s richest blessings be bestowed upon you in great measure. It is amazing that we are turning the calendar to the month of November, but here we are. November will allow us many opportunities to both serve the Lord and to give Him praise and glory. As we focus on giving thanks we also focus on giving. We will have opportunities to give to those in need through disaster relief efforts. November 15-17, we will take a team of volunteers to work alongside a sister church in Lumberton, NC, to aid in the flood relief efforts. Please pray about your involvement in this short-term mission trip. Also, we will share in our community Thanksgiving worship service. This year we are the host church. We are grateful for this opportunity to open our doors for this service. This years service, I believe, will be unique in that we will be focusing on lay people in our churches that will share their testimony of God's amazing Grace and work in their lives. It will surely be a blessing. Also, throughout the month our focus will be on giving. Everyone will be encouraged to share your blessings within our community, within our church, and even within the world. You will have opportunities to share how the Lord has used you to be a blessing to others. And in doing so I believe it will enable us to truly give thanks and praise to the Lord. 2 There are 7.4 billion people in the world, and by the year 2100, the United Nations estimates that there will be That s a lot of people! Say it took you one minute to tell each person the gospel. Even if you lined up every living person and took every minute of each day to share the gospel one-by-one, it would take over twenty-one lifetimes to tell each person about the gospel. You could never sleep, never eat and would have to begin sharing the gospel the second you were born. The above quote appeared in an article written by an evangelist leading a ministry to teenagers to equip students all across the nation to reach their friends and families with the gospel. I receive his ministry newsletter in my inbox once to twice a month. When you consider what he is saying in his quote above, the only logical conclusion is that one person cannot reach everyone alone. In fact, Jesus knew this principle. That is why He spent time on earth with twelve disciples, whom He invested time in shaping their lives so that when He was gone, they would take up the cause of spreading his message and ministry all over the world. And when you read the book of Acts, we find how Jesus cause spread through ordinary men and women who understood the importance of making disciples who would make disciples. It did not involve flashy programs and a calendar of events to fulfill the mission. It was as simple as fully committed followers of Christ living out their faith and sharing the message in the normal rhythms of their daily lives. In fact, Paul gives a glimpse into the pattern that shapes one of our ministry values in our student ministry. In 2 Timothy 2:1-2, he charges his young protégé, Timothy, to pass on to other trustworthy persons the things that he has been taught so that they will pass on to others also. In other words, Paul says that multi-generational discipleship is important for the health and future of the church. In the words of the great Christian martyr, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Christianity without discipleship is Christianity without Christ. In our student ministry, we desire to make disciples, not just good Christian teenagers. This shapes how we plan our calendar, the events we do, and the process through which we determine our success. We want to be intentional about how we help students grow in their faith, asking whether what we are doing is equipping them to live out their faith and share Jesus with others consistently. Our Sunday nights take more of a deeper discipleship focus while Wednesdays tend to be focused on outreach. Discipleship happens not in larger groups, but as leaders intentionally invest one to one time with students. The goal is that we would send out a gospel coalition of students who will not only shape the culture in the present, but well into the future. Because, remember, one person cannot do it alone. Baptist Home Mission Committee Ministry Opportunity The Christian Disciples Sunday School class provides a meal once a month to the His Life Ministry Soup Kitchen (located in the old Quincys building). We have several people from other classes who have been so faithful to provide entrees, rolls, Little Debbie cakes and desserts and help serve. It is such a blessing to be used as Christ's hands and feet to others. To Baptist Home Church Family It is the time of year when we traditionally plan for the Thanksgiving Meal for Families in Need We are so thankful that several of our area churches are now meeting needs for food for our families in need. We sincerely believe that God is leading us in a somewhat different direction this year instead of this ministry being during the Thanksgiving season, we believe that the Lord is changing the direction of our church to serve a meal for these families during the Easter season for we have the message to share that Our Savior Has Risen. We will continue to collect food for White Christmas and gifts for Angel Tree children we will continue to extend our vision during the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for International missions. We urge our church families to not only support these ministries, but to also support the His Light Ministry.. Soup Kitchen the soup kitchen ministry is a great opportunity for individuals, groups and/or families to become more involved. 5 Hometown Kids November 2018 Greetings, When I was a kid (way back in the day) I had a Bozo the Clown doll. He had a string that when pulled would cause him to say a different pre-recorded message each time. One of my favorite things he said was what are you doodly-do-do-doing. (Side note: I wonder what kids today would think of Bozo the Clown?) As I sat down to write this article, I thought of Bozo the Clown and that question: What are you doodly-do-dodoing? Funny. I wanted to tell you what the kids and I are doodly-do-do-doing : WE are getting ready for our Christmas presentation. So soon? Oh, goodness. Probably not soon enough! We only have a few weeks to rehearse and I am SUCH an overachiever! But, I have a great group of kids and a great group of helpers. Let me give you a sneak peek: Mr. Adam Furr and Wesley Furr are working together with the kids on a puppet presentation. Some of the kids did puppets on the Ohio missions trip this year and they were super excited about doing more work with puppetry, so we have included that in our Christmas presentation. Last year s Blacklight piece was such fun to prepare and it was such a big hit, we wanted to try our hand at another one. It s totally different from last year, but we think you will enjoy it. So, I m working with the kids on that, including some choregraphy and movement that might surprise you. Mrs. Michelle is working with the Hometown Kids Choir on a song they are going to present and last night the kids and I discussed some of the things we want to do with that piece. The kids had some great ideas. I LOVE seeing their eyes light up as they think about how we can accomplish getting the message of Christmas across in a fun way. Mattie Collins, our resident photographer is going to help us on that. AND, our preschoolers will be included as well. Mrs. Julie and Mrs. Denise will be working with them. It s not truly a Christmas program without the littles. We have a few other things up our sleeve.including a finale that I think is going to be different than anything you ve seen before in a Christmas program. It s a lot of work, but really, I can t think of anything I d rather be doing. I LOVE working with these kids! AND, I m so grateful for the WE part. It takes a village. No, it takes a church. Our team, including our Wednesday night and Sunday morning teachers all have our sights set on the hearts of these kids. We want to see them grow..like a tree planted by the waters that gives off fruit in due season. That s why we keep doodly-do-do-doing these things week in and week out. Sunday morning, Sunday night, Wednesday night. Sunday morning, Sunday night, Wednesday night. Sunday morning Sunday night, Wednesday night. You get the picture. So, that s what WE are doodly-do-do-doing. What about you? How are you serving the Lord? How are you investing in the life of others? How are you sharing His message?
