2 STEPHEN MINISTRY UPDATE I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly. John 10: 10b Stephen Ministry is one of the ways Christians can live abundantly. Having a faith-filled Christian who walks with us in unpredictable times, or being that faithful companion gives us courage, strength, and even joy. This summer, we are seeking people who are called to serve as Stephen Ministers. We are seeking compassionate people who are able to take on 50 hours of training, which will run from September through March, meeting almost every week. The training will include developing skills in listening, maintaining boundaries, Christian assertiveness, and accepting feelings. These Stephen Ministers will be commissioned next May. Training and serving as a Stephen Minister may mean saying no to other responsibilities. Usually, a Stephen Minister serves for two years, including training and then weekly meetings with a care receiver, and regular meetings for supervision. Stephen Ministers meet with individuals experiencing a number of struggles, including grief, job loss, illness, or single parenting. If you are interested in becoming a Stephen Minister, or would like more information, please contact Stephen Leader Mike Breakwell or me. Then you may fill out an application and have an interview. We ask that applications be turned in by July 15 th. God blesses the Church through Stephen Ministry. Stephen Ministers carry God s love to people in need, and they are blessed in return. Please contact me if you are interested. And tell others who seem to have gifts for this ministry. Grace and peace; Betsy Rice STEPHEN MINISTRY THANK YOU Are you a Stephen Minister or Stephen Leader? Jesus didn t come to simply give a new set of rules to live by, but to challenge listeners to search, to question, and to wrestle with what matters most. NOOMA (from the Greek, meaning Spirit ) is a series of short films made by nationally renowned author and pastor Rob Bell. They explore our world through the teachings of Jesus. Join the discussion on Sunday, June 11 th, 25 th and July 16 th and 30 th at 9:00 a.m. in Room 222 WPC members have found these videos to be FABULOUS.
