Weeds can teach us about perseverance consider the tough dandelion plant pushing its way up through the pavement for some it s just a weed, but for others there are lessons to be learned. Leader: What will be gained from seeds? People: Inside each one of us is a special person, waiting to be nurtured to wholeness. Each seed is unique; each has its own gifts to offer. Leader: In God s garden, God s love extends to both asking both to consider what each has to offer to a hurting world. It is easy to read and explains every step. If you would like to volunteer, please call or text my cellphone (660) or you can reach me at the church (660) Registration forms for VBS are outside the church office. All children who have completed one year of preschool to 5th grade are invited to join us. MOVIE IN THE PARKING LOT! Pop on over for a fun outdoor family movie night, Friday, August 11, Fun Activities begin at 8:00 PM with Showtime at 8:20 PM. All the fun will be here at Salem, 1500 Main St., Higginsville, MO. Bring your popcorn, pillow, blanket, and lawn chairs. Free drinks provided. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: The Memorial Committee is asking for volunteers to water the flower pots at the front doors of the church. If you are interested please call Mary Homfeld,

6 FESTIVAL OF SHARING 2017: This year the Board of Elders have chosen two projects members of Salem can contribute to for Festival of Sharing, they are Missouri Paper Product Pack and Missouri Personal Hygiene Pack. Please consider donating any of the many items involved with these packets. An article with all the items listed will be in upcoming Lamplighters through October. The Elders have placed a container in the Overflow to collect your items. COMMUNITY NEWS: GRACE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH VBS: Vacation Bible School at Grace United Methodist Church will be held Sunday, July 23 Wednesday, July 26, 5:30 7:30 p.m. The theme is Heroes of the Bible, children ages 4 years-5 th grade are invited to join the fun. If you have any questions, and to register, please call or OPEN HOUSE BEING HELD FOR DALE PARSON S RETIREMENT: Immanuel United Church of Christ in Sedalia will be hosting an Open House Reception on behalf of the Western Association for Dale Parson s retirement on Sunday, August 20, 2017 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm. in the Fellowship Hall. All are invited to attend this reception to wish Dale well in his retirement as he takes his Third Third Step in his life. May God Bless Dale and his family in whatever their future holds. SAVE THE DATE: Rev. F. Dale Parson s announced his retirement during the Conference Annual Gathering in June. The conference is holding a farewell celebration August 26, at Columbia UCC. His last official day with the conference will be September 9. The OPEN HOUSE will be at COLUMBIA UCC, August 26, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Lunch is being planned for around 12 noon with the Litany of Release following. JKV AND MEYER CARE CENTER BIBLE STUDY: There won t be Bible Study during July or August, Bible Study will resume in September. 5
