Romans 7: contains the word I twenty-five times, while Romans 8: 1-17 contains the word Spirit sixteen times. The I s in Romans 7 are summed up in verse 19, For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do this I keep on doing. When the I is at the center things don t work in accordance with God s will. But, when the Spirit is at the center Romans 8:5b says but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires God s will is done. As members of the Three Rivers Walk to Emmaus Community prepare to serve the Pilgrims of Walks # 61 & #62 we will see God s will done when we put the Spirit at the center of our focus, not the I. So whether serving as a member of the teams, as a silent servant in a 4 th Day role, or as a Prayer Vigil partner let the Holy Spirit lead and God will be glorified through his people. 2 FROM THE COMMUNITY SPIRITUAL DIRECTOR Love Notes from Linda RAPTURE PRACTICE! YAHOO!! Here we are just a few weeks from Easter, and just a few weeks from the Spring Emmaus walks. Holy Week is my favorite week of the Christian year. We go from singing loud hosannas to murder to resurrection all in seven days. It s an emotional roller coaster ride, and as it all unfolds each year, I am newly washed with the love of Christ for me. Christ was willing to suffer rejection, disdain, pain, embarrassment, and death as a criminal because he wanted me to be with him in eternity. It s overwhelming when I think of that! Such love, such grace, and all for me and YOU! When I was at teaming these past weeks, I was again amazed that there were so many people willing to give up their family and personal time for strangers. They were willing to work hard on talks, to give up three and one-half days of their lives and live in rugged conditions with little sleep so that another person would have the opportunity to draw closer to God through Christ and the Holy Spirit. When I serve on a walk regardless of the capacity in which I serve, I am always amazed at the intense presence of The Holy Spirit. I come away drained and used, but on such a spiritual high that I can t wait to team again, and again, and again. Each time I serve Emmaus, I am reminded of what it truly means to be a servant. Christ set the example when he girded his waist with the towel and took up the basin, willing to wash (literally) dirty feet. I have therefore concluded that we truly experience The Presence when we follow Christ s example of serving. It is only in serving others that I feel truly alive and wholesome! May your experience in Emmaus be likewise. I wish all of you a rainbow, a star, a blessing, a special servant moment in your future. Heaven looms before us, and I want to enter the gates with Jesus standing before me, arms outstretched welcoming me home. WOW, and to think that I get a little bitty preview on each walk. Your Three Rivers Walk to Emmaus community wants to stay connected with you, to re-connect if we ve been separated, and be connected for the Glory of God. It is for this reason that we ve undertaken a special mass mailing to every household in our community- To invite you to our 15 th Anniversary Gathering Celebration on May 11 th, To enable us to stay connected by having current records, and To be connected by making known our times of gathering together in 2007 & 2008! It is with great joy that I extend an invitation to our Gala Gathering to celebrate our 15 th Anniversary as a community at Ingomar United Methodist Church on Friday, May 11 th. Our evening s festivities begin at 6:30 pm with a catered dinner, followed by a Gala Gathering of the friends and family of Christ that are the Three Rivers Walk to Emmaus Community. We will be joined by Rev. Dr. Victor Perez, the International Spiritual Director for Emmaus & Chrysalis as our 4 th Day Speaker, and have a special Break-Out time when we will gather together with the pilgrims from our original Walks to connect again. As a community we also desire to stay connected, and that means we need accurate records in our directory, complete with an address if possible. It is for this reason that we ask you to please complete and return the Reply Card with your updated contact info whether you plan to attend the Gala or not. We desire to re-connect and ensure you have information on TRWE Community activities in the coming year and beyond. 6 Can you remember your walk and how you felt when you received agape for the first time? What a wonderful outpouring of unconditional love from members of the Emmaus Community this is. Now you have an opportunity to do the same for the upcoming Men and Women s Walks. Below are some guidelines that will help you and our Team members to create a wonderful experience of love for our Pilgrims. 1. Agape must be completed before bringing it to the camp. All the Team members are very busy and will need every minute to prepare for the Pilgrims. 2. Agape should be brought to the camp on Thursday night if possible, but no later than Saturday evening before Candlelight. For the Men s Walk, please take agape to Stewart Hall, which is the green building by the parking lot. For the Women s Walk, please take Agape to Redwood Lodge. There will be people to help you find these locations. Please remember that bedtime agape for Saturday will be distributed around 7:00 p. m. Agape can be made for the following situations: MEN S WALK WOMEN S WALK Pilgrims and Team 50 Pilgrims and Team 73 Pilgrims only 20 Pilgrims only 30 Conference Room 42 Conference Room 56 Pilgrims, Table Leaders and Assistants 30 Pilgrims, Table Leaders and Assistants 42 Note: please try to add a few extra pieces for last minute additions 4. Please label all agape with the following information: Your name or reunion group name. Number of pieces and to whom they should be distributed (Pilgrims only, Team and Pilgrims etc.). When you would like it to be distributed. Unused Agape can be picked up on Sunday closing for both walks. If you are not able to attend, you will still be able to pick up your agape at the next gathering. Please don t forget Snack Agape!!!! Veggie trays, fruit trays are good. Homemade foods, (some salty, some sweet) are especially appreciated! All agape should be brought to Redwood Lodge for both the men and women. Agape letters for Sunday If you are a Sponsor and are bringing letters for your Pilgrim, please make sure there are 12 letters bundled. These letters should be family and closest friends, etc. Remember these are the letters they will read first. The envelopes should be marked on the lower left-hand corner with family, friend etc. All others will be held and given to the Sponsor at closing. If at all possible, please try to deliver letters before Candlelight on Saturday. It is helpful for the Agape team to be able to set up the Sunday Packets as soon as possible. Also, identify yourself as the Pilgrim s Sponsor when delivering the packets to Agape. Please remember there are to be no gifts for any member of the Walks, Pilgrims or Team. If you have something you would like to give, it should be done on the way home. 7 You are invited to join in the 15 th Anniversary Celebration of our Community at Ingomar United Methodist Church. Invitations have been sent by USMail, detailing the event, including a reservation card. The evening starts at 6:30 pm with a catered buffet dinner: Roasted Chicken Rice & Broccoli Pasta & Marinara Sauce Meatballs Italian Beans Veggie Pizza Rainbow Tossed Salad Rolls Beverages The cost of the dinner is $12.50 per person with reservations and payment due April 25 th. Our Worship time will begin at 7:45 pm in the Sanctuary with singing praise to God. Next we will have a Break-Out Session time, meeting with others who shared in our original Walks. In most of the groups the leader will be the Lay Director of the Walk. This is a unique opportunity to see the faces and greet one another of those who shared their Walk together. There will be a group for our Chrysalis youth, too. Rev Victor Pérez, International Spiritual Director of the Walk to Emmaus will be our 4 th Day speaker. He will be sharing his personal journey with Emmaus and connecting us to current activities in the world-wide Emmaus Community. Rev Pérez will also lead us in Communion. Our Fellowship time will feature an Ice Cream Social served by our young Chrysalis members. Does your job or travel time make it difficult to come to the dinner? Then please join us for Worship and Fellowship time. All who return the reservation card indicating they plan to attend will receive personalized Agape commemorating the Gala. 9 Board Notes The Three Rivers Chrysalis and Emmaus Community seek to provide a safe and secure environment for the children, youth, and vulnerable adults who participate in our programs and activities. The Three Rivers Chrysalis Steering Committee and the Emmaus Board of Directors are bringing together a Safe Sanctuaries policy for our community as directed by the United Methodist Church for all communities of faith. The goal of the Safe Sanctuary policy is to demonstrate our commitment to protect the community s children, youth, and vulnerable adults, and promote an atmosphere of safety and spiritual growth. This policy will allow our community to be one of Christian hospitality as well as a place of safety. They re Back!!!!!!!!!!
