Feel free to bring them into the Worship Center to your seat during service. Today's Journey For of His fullness we have all received, and grace upon grace. For the Law was given through Moses; grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ. (John 1:16 17) Many people have a negative view of authority and rules. They see the laws as restrictive, demanding and controlling. Our western culture pushes back against anything that appears to limit our freedoms and individuality. That kind of thinking carries over into our religious beliefs. Society rejects God s laws and righteousness because it reveals sin and rebellion. And yet John points out that the law was given as a grace gift we all have received grace (vs. 16). But there is more grace to be experienced. The phrase "grace upon grace" literally means that there existed a grace gift given by God and a new and fuller measure of grace was given, a greater grace. The first grace given is the law, "for without the law I would not know I was a sinner" (Rom. 7:7). It is from a heart of love that God reveals to us our sin because sin separates us from Holy God. The Law, therefore, is a good gift from God. But when Jesus came He brought a greater grace gift. Grace and truth came into being and now is personally experienced through Jesus. The law is a mirror that reveals our fallen condition; Jesus is grace incarnate that offers us transformation. Pray for volunteers and resources needed for daily function. Pray for the recovery programs available: Shepherd's Door for women and children, and The Harbor for men. Pray that God's will is done, and many hearts are reached and transformed.
