Sept. 2nd Worship at 9:00 AM Starting Sept. 9th Worship Service at 8:00 and 10:00AM Sept. 9th Sunday School and Youth Group at 9:00 AM Coffee Connections at 9:00 AM September 2018 Monthly Newsletter UPCOMING SERMONS FOR SEPTEMBER 2018 In September, we re going to be starting a new fall teaching series called Essential Church. It s all about the essentials for being a healthy church that will grow. Now, for those who seem to expect instant growth in a church setting (only because they re excited about their church, I m sure), that just doesn t happen! It takes time years, in fact. Rick Warren uses the illustration, when speaking of turning a church around, of an oil tanker turning in the middle of the ocean. He says that it takes 13 miles of open ocean to turn a tanker around. And it s about the same number of years to turn churches around, from unhealthy to healthy. This series will just scratch the surface, but again, this will be the essentials for moving toward a healthier day as a congregation. Here s what you can expect in September, as we begin this series: Sunday, September 9 Houston: We Have a Problem based on Eph. 6:10-18 Sunday, September 16 Clearing the Pews based on Romans 6:1-11 Sunday, September 23 Closing the Back Door based on Acts 2:40-42 Sunday, September 30 Go Simple! based on John 17:20-26 Just as a reminder, our current worship series called CHRISTIAN will wrap up on Labor Day weekend with a message entitled Working it Out based on Matthew 22: I know many are traveling for Labor Day weekend, so please especially if you ve been with us throughout this series check it out on our website after Labor Day at Looking forward to another great year of growing in our faith, Pastor Rom

WE VE GOT THE TOOLS! Therefore, put on every piece of God s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. Ephesians 6:13 (NLT) Dear Trinity family, As the season of fall and a new school year approaches, we re going to be entering into a time of teaching that is called Essential Church. And, as the title eludes to, it is about all of the essentials it takes to be the Church God has called us to be. And, in the word of God, we have been given the tools to be just such a Church! The question is: Are we using the tools God s given us? I don t know about your grade school and middle school and high school experiences, but there was one thing that seemed to ring true no matter what year of school I was in one theme that ran throughout my school years and that my parents very much got tired of. I believe we still have parent-teacher conferences, though they may be called something different these days. At the parent-teacher conferences my parents went to, on my behalf, they were always told the same thing: Rom is not living up to his potential. He s not applying himself (referring to the academic tools I d been given). It was like an echo every time they went on and on and on from teacher to teacher, year after year. And then we d go home and I would get the same lecture from my parents every time they had a parent-teacher conference with my teachers. Rom, enough is enough. God has gifted you with some academic gifts (they worded it more simply, I m sure) and you are just not using them your choice! Long story short, it took me until almost 30 years old to begin to apply myself academically. I d gone back to college, married and two kids in tow, and I was paying for the education myself (which was part of the change I m sure). But, I began to apply those tools God had given me for the first time in my life. I may have been at a place where I wanted to prove something to my parents, to myself, and maybe to God. We too as a Church have incredible tools that God has given us to be the Church God has called us to be! And that s what early-fall teaching series is all about Essential Church. What tools has God given us to be the Church he wants us to be right here in Dodge County, WI? What tools has God given us to be the Church he wants us to be right here in the communities of Brownsville, Lomira, Campbellsport, Theresa, etc.? And, more importantly, are we applying ourselves? Or does God need to set down with us and tell us, You re not living up to your potential, Trinity! Come join us for this new teaching series as we kick off our fall semester, beginning on Sunday, September 9. What is it going to take for us Trinity UMC to be an Essential Church? Let s work at living up to our spiritual potential together See you (and your phone) in the pew, Pastor Rom

TUMC Starts New Roof Fund The roof on the parsonage and the roof on the church needed new shingles. The cost to put new shingles and new gutters and gutter guards on t both buildings is $106, Now we need help to pay for these needed repairs. We are asking for donations to our roof fund to complete the payment for this project. Up to this point, we have received approx. $22, towards the repairs. If we donate towards this project like we did for the new furnace and air conditioners, we could possibly have this load payed off in about 18 months. Thank You, The Trustee Committee

The Kat Trio at Trinity United Methodist Church The violin-clarinet-piano ensemble from Ekaterinburg, Russia was formed in May 1998 in Ekaterinburg by three friends Victoria Gorbich (violin), Vladislav Gorbich (clarinet) and Vasil Galiulin (piano). September 23, 2018, the Kat Trio will perform during the 8:00 & 10:00 a.m. worship services at Trinity United Methodist Church, 300 Church St., Lomira, WI. Enjoy a concert, featuring inspirational music and classical pieces, between services. Joyful is the word that audiences use to describe the Ekaterinburg Classical Trio s presentation of classical, inspirational, and pop standards. The Kat Trio loves performing live and has played 700 concerts in more than a decade of touring. They did their first US tour in When not found in concert venues, college or high school auditoriums, or in class rooms doing Master Classes, the Trio is performing for Sunday services or presenting concerts in churches. 5 to Our Office Volunteers, Etc! Starting September 9th Trinity will return to our two worship services at 8 AM and 10 AM. Sunday School and Youth Group 9 AM Coffee Connection 9 AM See you there! On behalf of myself and the Staff-Parish Relations Committee, I d like to thank all of our volunteers who throughout the summer helped to cover phones in the office while we were in between secretaries. Lila Ebert, thank you for all of your organizing/scheduling of these volunteers and for filling in. To each of the rest of you and you know who you are, we appreciate your service more than we can say! Also, a special thanks to Gwen Hinz for pulling together a special Prayer Team to pray for the whole hiring process, as we sought God s will for the absolutely right person for our front office. And to the whole prayer team and you know who you are, we give thanks! Thank you for your willingness to do the hard work of prayer on behalf of the future of Trinity UMC! Pastor Rom Caring Ministry Begins It s Second Year A huge thank you to Pam Wellso and Joan Brasch for serving on the caring ministry team during our inaugural year of service. Due to the work and feedback of all team members, including Pam and Joan, we can offer a second year of more finely tuned service to our shut in members. Gene and Dorothy Hake were trained in caring ministry over the summer. The Hakes will join Ruth Batterman, Kathy Drexler, Betty Menzer, Chuck Rhein, Bill Seefeld and Deb Wiedmeyer as caring ministers for the school year. These caring ministers will be commissioned into service at both the 8:00 and 10:00 services on Sunday, September 16. On Wednesday, August 8, Pastor Rom and Jane Pegram along with Kathy Drexler traveled to First UMC in Hartford. We met with Pastor Steph Taylor and other interested members of her congregation. We explained how we created our caring ministry program, it s purpose and how it operates. They are very interested in using our program as a model for launching a caring ministry at First UMC in Hartford. The purpose of Trinity s Caring Ministry is to allow the shut in members of our church to remain connected to church by bringing them information about the life of the church. Caring ministers commit to visiting their care receiver once a month, bringing holy communion that was blessed by Pastor Rom. Another important duty of the caring minister is to listen to their care receiver and to talk about spiritual matters if the care receiver so wishes. Though we wish that we could do more, that is the extent to which our Caring Ministry operates at this time. If you have questions about Trinity s Caring Ministry please contact Kathy Drexler, coordinator.

Trinity United Methodist Church has been recently introduced to a ministry out of Richardson, Texas, called Grace Ministries: Home of the 101 Back to the Basic Resources. This is a ministry Pastor Rom has been familiar with for some time now and has used their resources in the past a very-trusted resource. And now, because of a special package deal with Trinity UMC, this digital library is available to all from Trinity UMC and even more. This library of digital resources will also be made available to our community. In other words, if you re a part of Trinity UMC and you know of someone who might benefit from one Grace Ministries resources on this site, please share it with them so they can receive Godly guidance for their lives as well (username/password below). Following is a sampling of areas you may want to tap into: Fathering 101: Be the Dad! Periscope (guiding future generations in the Christian faith) Crisis 101 (Making sense of life when life doesn t make sense) Family 101 (applying the one another principles in the home) Lessons from the Tacklebox (carrying men to the next level in their relationship with God) And much more Please check out this new resource that is available online (grace101.org) or through our website (trinitylomira.org)! Here s how you gain access: Trinity volunteers served 150 meals for the Loaves & Fishes program in Fond du Lac this last Monday. We would like to thank all the people who came out to help serve a tasty meal to those in need. It was especially helpful to have so many people help with the cleanup after the meals were served. We received many expressions of gratitude from the clients for giving them such a nice meal. We also want to thank the cookies bakers for preparing such a generous supply of cookies. We were able to give extra cookies to the families that were served. We put smiles on all the kid s faces when we asked them if they would like an extra cookie to eat on the way home. 8 Trinity Welcomes The New Administrative Assistant The SPRC Committee is excited to introduce to the congregation our new Administrative Assistant, Kristen Schultz. Having been blessed with a beautiful family, she and her husband, Cory, have been married for 19 years, and have three amazing daughters, Johanna (16), Lilyanna (10) and Myla (5). The Schultz family enjoys softball, boating, gardening and with three girls shopping! Kristen s background begins with a degree from UW-Stevens Point; after graduation she has held multiple positions is Marketing and Design. Kristen also owns a small business at her home where she refinishes furniture and sells antiques. I have a strong upbringing in Faith and the Church, states Kristen. I cannot wait to serve the Lord and become the gatekeeper of Trinity United Methodist Church. Please stop by the office and introduce yourself Kristen is ooking forward to meeting all of you. Teresa Amerling Appreciation Day About four years ago Teresa Amerling jumped into our administrative assistant position to fill the void created by the sudden death of dear Amy Sweet. Everyone who knows Teresa has witnessed her love for our church and it s people, her amazing creative skills, her efficiency, and her effervescent enthusiasm for life. I just want to say thank you to my church family for being so loving, supportive and kind. I am so happy to be continuing on with our church staff through worship design, website and videography and also look forward to training our new Administrative Assistant for the role. I hope and pray that you will extend the same Christian love and kindness to Kristen who will be taking over for me. God Bless each and everyone of you. Thank you, Teresa Amerling Teresa has resigned her position as our administrative assistant due in large part to the success of The Wisco, the restaurant owned by Teresa and her husband, Mike. Fortunately, Teresa will remain on staff as our audiovisual coordinator, a position that affords her greater flexibility in work hours. On Sunday, September 16 at 9:00 the SPRC will be hosting a time to express our collective appreciation for Teresa. Please come to personally thank Teresa for her service. A basket will be provided for written expressions of thanks. Let s shower Teresa with kindness in return for her nearly 4 years of service to this congregation as our administrative assistant.

Let There Be Music First, thanks so much to all who gave your time and talents to offer special music to your God and the Church this summer. Job Well Done! Second, the need continues for preludes and offertories and for specials when the choir, bells, or children do not fill that slot in the service. Please continue to contact Jason. Third, various band groups have kept going over the summer, but be assured we will continue to strike up the band. Great! Great! And fourth, precious Sunday School Children we need your voices starting Sept. 9th on some fun new songs. Music Music Music & More Music! Worship Music Coordinator Jason Ehlert Sunday School Music Coordinator, Priscilla & Jason Ehlert Welcome to Adult Singers! Choir season is fast approaching! Our first choir practice will be help on Wednesday, September 12th at 7:00 pm, and on each Wednesday at 7:00 pm after that. We will be singing at the 10:00 am service on Sunday, September 16th. The choir sings on the first and third Sundays of each month; also, for some Holiday or special services. I look forward to reuniting with all of my choir members and any new member who is a High School Freshman or older. Come join the fun, as we sing praises to our God ad Lord. Keep a song in your heart! Pam Hilker Adult Choir Director BRAT FRY at the Brat Shack at the EXXON Kountry Korners gas station on Friday, Sept. 14th and Saturday, Sept. 15th PLEASE check your calendar and offer to assist, by contacting Debbie Bintzler (920) Any time you can give would be greatly appreciated or stop by and grab a burger or brat to support Trinity United Methodist Church s mission team. Handbell Season Begins! Greetings from your Hand bell director, I hope everyone had a great summer and enjoyed time off with their friends and family on various vacations. Summer is a great time in Wisconsin with all there is to see and do. We are truly blessed to live in this great state, (even though I curse the cold winters). Now it is time to start bell choir rehearsals with a new season upon us. I do thank everyone who has given me kind words of encouragement and I have gained a little more confidence each year. I really do hope that the ringers enjoy playing as we have fun and laughs weekly at practice. We will be practicing once again at 6:00 pm on Wednesday night starting September 5th. and are still in need of one more ringer to fill the vacant spot. We also need a few people to fill in when someone can not make it to play on the fourth Sunday of the month. Believe it or not, it can be very challenging to get all 12 of us at church on our designated Sunday to play. I really do appreciate the dedication given to attend practice and help me learn how to be a better director along the way. As always, I am given the strength and courage to continue on from the "man upstairs" and hope to direct for many years to come. If you have any questions or concerns please contact me. My phone # , please leave a message if I do not answer. scsr527@yahoo.com. Whichever you prefer. And if you feel a nudge to come and try out the bell choir, please do. We would love to have you join us!
