1 HASD St. Paul s Epistle AUGUST 2013/ SEPTEMBER 2013/ OCTOBER 2013 INSIDE THIS ISSUE: During the upheaval of preparing to move my household and office to my new home, I came across many interesting things I hadn t remembered having. One article I came across from an ELCA publication Seeds for the Parish, May-June 2007, is worthy of sharing. It s titled The Unchurched : Knowing where a typical unbeliever is coming from is the first step in connecting with them. Researcher Thom Rainer interviewed thousands of unchurched Americans and published the results in: The Unchurched Next Door. Many of the following findings may surprise you: Most of the unchurched prefer to attend church on a Sunday morning if they attend. Most are not antichurch or antireligion. Most Americans have never been invited to church never. 82 percent of the unchurched are at least somewhat likely to attend church if they are invited. Two percent of church members invite an unchurched person to church. Most of the unchurched feel guilty about not attending church. Very few of the unchurched have had someone share with them how to become a Christian. And Christians have not been particularly influential in their lives. The attitudes of the unchurched are not correlated to where they live, their ethnic or racial background or their gender. Many of the unchurched are far more concerned about the spiritual well-being of their children than of themselves. These are very interesting facts to ponder and be challenged by. Let s invite someone! 3 S T. PAUL S EPIST LE P AGE 3 Don't forget! The first day of Sunday School will be on Sunday, September 15th. We have classes for all ages. Join us for a wonderful Rally Day on Sunday, September 8, 2013 at the 9:00 service. This year the Ryan Family will entertain us with their wonderful musical talent. The service this year will be held in the sanctuary. I want to personally thank everyone who helped with Vacation Bible School! All of the volunteers are the reason we are able to have a successful Bible School each and every year. I have been blessed with the BEST volunteers and I appreciate each and every one of them. Please consider joining us next year and see why we do it year after year. Nothing is more rewarding! Become involved in your Sunday School. We are always looking for teachers and ways to get more people involved. Come to our quarterly meeting on Sunday, August 18, 2013 and see what we do. Fall will be here before you know it. Mark your calendar for our annual Fall Fest. Our Fall Fest will be on Friday, October 11, 2013 at 5:30 PM. We will have a hayride (weather permitting), snacks and lots of other activities. Our annual bazaar will be on Saturday, November 2, If you are interested in a table, contact Melanie Brown at or at basket286@comcast.net. All tables are $10.00.

The money collected will be given to the Northern Berks Ministisrium for the fuel assistance fund. This money is used during the winter months to help families-in-need to purchase heating fuel. There are small envelopes in the pews for enclosing your donation. Just mark the outside of the envelope with the words fuel assistance and your name or church envelope number so we can give you credit for the donation. The envelope can be placed in the offering plate during the church service or in special baskets for fuel assistance in the narthex. If you don t attend either one of these church services and would like to donated to the worthy cause, you may mail your donation to the church and mark it fuel assistance. FIFTH SUNDAY OF THE MONTH SPECIAL FUND The fifth Sunday of the month, a special collection is collected for the Fuel Fund Drive. The money collected will be put towards the heating fuel for the year. However, if you want to donate and have it still go to the capital improvement, you may do so but please mark it on the envelope. 6 P AGE 6 A Special Thank You! to... *FELLOWSHIP AFTER CHURCH The fellowship and refreshments after the church service are being enjoyed by everyone.. We are asking for volunteers to be in charge of providing the refreshments and serving them. This is to get more people involved and so the same people don t have to do it all the time. There will be a chart on the bulletin board in the narthex of the church for members to sign-up for a Sunday they would like, starting in September. We hope everyone will volunteer taking their turns to provide the refreshments for after the worship service, so we can continue this fellowship. Thank you to the people who donated refreshments for the months of May, June & July, 2013 and also to the people who stepped in to help serve and clean up after everyone was through the line. *SANDWICH SALE Thank you to everyone who helped to make the sandwiches on May 29, Also, thank you to Harold Reppert for taking charge of the sandwiches sale. We made an approximate total of 288 sandwiches, with the profit of about $593. Without your help, we would not be able to have the sandwich sales. HIGH SCHOOL & COLLEGE GRADUATES On Sunday, June 16, we recognized the following high school & college students who are members of our church. We want to congratulate them for their achievements and wish them great success in the future. The following are the members who graduated in 2013: Shelby Bashore: She graduated from Hamburg High School and plans on attending Lebanon Valley College and will be majoring in biochemistry.. Kurt Mohn: He graduated from Hamburg High School and will be attending Lebanon Valley College and will be majoring in chemical engineering.
