We want to grow in prayer and in the ministry of prayer for others. Jesus and Prayer Ministry: 1) Jesus as the Anointed One of the Spirit (Christ/Messiah) has the mission and authority to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight to the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord s favor (Lk 4:16-21). 2) Proclamation of the Good News opens people to healing. 3) Repentance and forgiveness open people to healing. 4) Compassion/love for the hurting opens the way to healing. 5) Reaching out with faith opens us to healing. Even a mustard seed of faith can remove a mountain. We are to ask, seek and knock in faith. 6) Jesus shares his authority to heal with his disciples (Lk 10:1-9). 7) Union with Jesus (vine and branches, Jn 15:4-8) allows Jesus to work through us. 8) Jesus promises that miraculous signs will accompany those who seek to follow his commission to go forth and make disciples of all nations. 9) The Holy Spirit imparts spiritual gifts, including gifts of healing (1 Cor 12). 10) The most important healing is to receive the salvation that Jesus has brought us by his life, death, resurrection and sending the Spirit. We need to repent of going our own way; accept Jesus as our Savior and Lord; ask him to come into our hearts; and give him reign to be Lord of our lives. We are to help people to realize that healing is not our main goal. We seek Jesus and his salvation. He will heal the blocks that keep us from living fully in him. The Holy Spirit and Prayer Ministry: 1) John the Baptist tells us that the Messiah/Christ will baptize us in the Holy Spirit. We experience what Jesus experienced at his baptism: the sky is opened; the Spirit descends upon us; we begin to hear God s inner voice loving and guiding us; the Spirit leads us to overcome temptation; the Spirit empowers us for ministry. 2) The Holy Spirit prays within us a leads our prayer (Rom 8). 3) The Spirit of Truth is our inner teacher who makes the Scriptures and Sacraments come alive. 4) The Holy Spirit overcomes the works of the flesh (Gal 5). 5) The Holy Spirit gives us boldness and guidance in witnessing and proclaiming the Good News of Jesus. 6) The Spirit empowers us to overcome the world (1 Jn 2:15-17), flesh, and the devil (Eph 6:10-13; 1 P 5:7-9). 7) The Holy Spirit is our Advocate/Partner in all prayer ministry. Prayer ministry is most powerful when people are part of a prayer community where they are helping each other to grow in prayer, holiness, and ministry in the Holy Spirit. When we are growing together and agreeing together in prayer Jesus promises to manifest his presence in a special way and to answer our prayers. By the Spirit let us live in the presence of the Lord and minister his presence to others.

3 Volume 11 Issue 9 FROM THE SERVICE COMMITTEE: Page 3 Ephesians 6: -12 for our struggle is not with flesh and blood but with the principalities, with the powers, with the world rulers of this present darkness, with the evil spirits in the heavens. In the last few years, we have witnessed an increased negative opposition against Christian values coinciding with an increase in the enemy s activity to counteract and influence people. These actions are not imaginary or coincidence. We are under constant threat of attack by weapons of mass destruction and it is not just, as people did during the cold war of the 50 s and 60 s, nor of the fear of attack by terrorists as No brothers and sisters, but we live under continuous attacks and strikes by satan and his legions who are out to destroy us in the most permanent way possible and that is of destroying our eternal soul. As we draw nearer to Jesus second coming, the enemy has unleashed an unprecedented offensive against God s church. We must understand that we are in an all out War that demands complete commitment and dedication as well as toughness of mind and spirit. Pray continuously and use the gifts and discernment that the Holy Spirit has given you. Remember the victory has already been won. Therefore, put on the armor of God, that you may be able to resist on the evil day and, having done everything, to hold your ground. Ephesians 6:13 I remain sincerely in your service, Deacon Sonny Arismendez P r a i s e God! This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it. (Ps 118) The mission of the Youth Staying Connected (YSC) Office at the Catholic Center for Charismatic Renewal (CCCR) is to bring teens to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit. One of the ways that we stay connected to the teens after the Life in the Spirit Retreats is to organize quarterly Youth Rallies. We are inviting the youth of the Archdiocese to participate in a Eucharistic procession on October 10, 2010 which will begin at the Renewal center. You might be asking yourself, What does this have to do with me or my prayer group? Well, we would like for you to do four (4) things for us. 1. Pray and intercede for God s manifest presence to shine as we take Jesus to the streets of San Antonio into San Fernando Cathedral. 2. Attend the intercessory prayer session that will take place at 3:00 p.m. in the CCCR Chapel. 3. If you are not able to be part of the procession (bring banners), plan to greet the youth at San Fernando Plaza at 6:00 p.m. as the Blessed Sacrament arrives. Praise, Worship and Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Tom Flanagan. 4. Advertise for us in your parish bulletin and by passing the word, and feel free to make copies as needed of this flyer. We remain well-stocked with Bibles, English and Spanish books, CDs, various religious articles, oils, purses, bible covers, etc. Bookstore Hours: Mon-Fri 9am-3pm SLEEPING GIANTS I received a message from the Lord from a good friend and supporter of the CCCR and I think it s something that some, if not all of us, need to hear, discern and pray about. The message, in part, is as follows: God wants His sleeping giants to wake up, that the church, you and me, pray for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit that will not know denominational barriers. That we should lead this great out-powering of God s movement and power and that we ought to be of one accord (Matt ). It is time to wake up; to get serious about our duty to respond! I sense the urgency in my heart and the Holy Spirit crying out in me; to hurry; to make ready. Fear not what men may say or what men may think about you. For I will use you for My Glory, says the Lord of Hosts! Personally, this message is telling me that perhaps some of us may be getting lackadaisical about our ministry. If we are about the Father s business we should be alert for every opportunity to evangelize. Are we all practicing the gifts of the Holy Spirit, i.e., the ones in Isaiah and the ones in the New Testament? Are we missing opportunities to pray for those in need? I ask you to meditate on the above and see if one or more of the messages applies to you, then see what you can do to revitalize your prayer ministry.
