2 BOSCOMBE CORPS NEWS Prayer Requests We have a number of our congregation who need our prayers at the moment for various reasons. Please pray for Miriam Riddoch and for the Osmond family. Funeral Arrangements for Margaret Copper It is our sad duty to inform you of the Promotion to Glory of Margaret Copper (former Boscombe soldier who transferred to Pokesdown). The funeral is to be held on Tuesday 6 November commencing at 2.30pm at Bournemouth Crematorium followed by a Service of Thanksgiving at 3.30pm held at Pokesdown Hall. Both services conducted by Major Colin Hunt. Please pray for Jean and Des Butler and the rest of Margaret s family at this sad time. Thank you for the flowers The flowers today have been given by Stuart and Linda Bulmer in loving memory of their parents. Bonfire Night The Allcocks are hosting a Bonfire and Fireworks night on Saturday 10 November as a fundraising event for both MAM/SSCA and the Big Collection. For more information, please see the poster in the foyer and please write you name on the sign-up sheet if you are attending. Donations of wood and fireworks would be gratefully received. Thank you! Coffee Morning Noel and Elizabeth Cutler are hosting a Coffee Morning on Saturday 17 November from 10am to 4pm to raise vital funds for the Motor Neurone Disease Association. It is being held at Southern Breeze Lodge Guest House (details in the Corps Directory). Everyone welcome! Men s Fellowship Christmas Meal This is being held on Monday 3 December at the Elstead Hotel, Knyveton Road, Bournemouth arriving at 7.00pm for 7.30pm start. 3 PRAYER MATTERS compiled by Lieut-Colonel David Phillips In September we prayed for the Joys in the Corps, this week we intercede for our Davids. Monday 5 November 1 Samuel 16 v David becomes King. A very handsome and likeable young man. We will follow his life recorded in scripture. Pray for our Major David today. (Song 247 O Man of Galilee ) Tuesday 6 November 1 Samuel 16 v David played his harp for Saul. David a musician of ability. Pray for the talented musicians in our Corps. So many of them, including David Wilkinson, who have played in our Corps Band for years. (Song 390 Sing and Make Music ) Wednesday 7 November 1 Samuel 18 v 1-4. David formed a firm friendship with Jonathan. How valuable friendship is and we give thanks to God for all our friends who contribute so much to our lives. We pray for David Howard today. (Song 795 What a Friend we Have in Jesus ) Thursday 8 November 1 Samuel 24. David spares the life of Saul despite his jealousy towards him. Jealousy is one of those evils which can invade a Christian fellowship with disastrous results. Pray for its removal from our fellowship if it exists. Pray for David Stark today. (Song 721 Lord Jesus, I Long to be Perfectly Whole ) Friday 9 November 2 Samuel 9 v David shows kindness to Mephibaspeth the crippled son of Jonathan. Kindness is a spiritual gift to be shared. May we display the gift daily. Pray for David Wells today. (Song 862 In Loving Kindness Jesus Came ) Saturday 10 November 2 Samuel chapters 11 and 12. David experiences personal sin and shame. David sought forgiveness and was forgiven by a merciful and forgiving God. Read Psalm 51. Our sins can be forgiven if we seek His repentance. Pray for David Phillips today. (Song 453 Amazing Grace ) Sunday 11 November Our National Memorial Day. Read Psalm 34 v 18. The Lord is close to the broken hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. 6 If you are joining us on Saturday for our Bonfire and Fireworks Night, here are just a few details that may be useful: The donation entrance price of 5 per person or 20 for a family includes refreshments (burger or hot dog and a drink). Face painting, sparklers, additional refreshments, cakes and sweets will be available for a small fee. Refreshments will be available from 6pm, Fireworks will begin at 7.15pm and we hope to finish at around 8pm. For your comfort it is advisable to bring a torch and a camping chair and remember to wrap up warm.
