ST. PAUL EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH 330/ Outward bound! Gathering Awakening 2004 St. Paul Vision Statement Serving Ma$hew 28:18-20 says, And Jesus came and said to them, All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nagons, bapgzing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age. One way we can make disciples is by invihng. Invite someone to worship, fellowship, VBS, bible study, or anywhere you can to share the good news of Jesus Christ with somebody who needs to hear it! YOU, with the Holy Spirit, can change lives! Check out the interachve calendar on the website for updates to the schedules. Click this link to go directly to the calendar. h$p://
For the first Gme, we will be focusing our designated giving campaign on sending one of our own young people, Jacob Sprang, to serve outside of our country. Jacob will serve in Rwanda for one year with the ELCA s Young Adult in Global Mission program. To answer a concern of some, Is this focusing inward on our own - or focusing outward? We ll be using the funds to enable Jacob to work closely with the Rwandan Lutheran Church in their on- going effort to renew Rwandan communiges. The Rwandan genocide took place over a decade ago, but it le_ over a million people dead and the infrastructure collapsed. Rwandan Lutherans are building their church and renewing their country through health and development projects. Jacob will be one six young adults who will work closely with the congregagonal, social, and reconciliagon ministries of the church. We are now privileged to share the love of Jesus Christ through this new outreach opportunity. Campaign Timeline: July 13 th Launching of the campaign by Rod Sprang August 3 rd Gathering of the gi_s and pledges.

For fathers (and mothers) Ten things I hope to do as a father By Jim LaDoux Today is my youngest son s 11th birthday. As our family celebrates the gift he s been to our family, I m reminded of the 10 things I hope I do as a father. 1. Tell my 2 boys daily that I love them, am proud of them, and that they re loved unconditionally by God. 2. Spend time with them doing the things they love and value and to see life through their eyes. 3. Help them see life through the eyes of Jesus and to find ways to be a blessing to others every day. 4. Remind them that they can make a difference in the lives of others through their words and actions, and through their time, talents and treasures. 5. Create meaningful moments with them that they ll cherish for the rest of their lives. 6. Pray for them daily and teach them to pray often and to be aware of God s presence in their life. 7. Show them how to love and respect women by modeling a loving relationship with my wife. 8. Teach them to be curious about life, see life as an adventure and view every experience as a learning opportunity. 9. Acknowledge my fears and regrets, reminding them that it s okay to be vulnerable, to make mistakes. They re sufficient as is and do not have to apologize for who God made them to be. 10. Teach them how to live fully each day to be fully present, always grateful and with a sense of wonder. What are your hopes for your children?

CreaHng shcky home by Jim LaDoux What can parents or grandparents do to help teenagers have faith that lasts a life6me? Share verbally about their own faith journeys. Stop lecturing kids or interviewing them; instead, share organically about your own faith. Ask their children who they will turn to when they have doubts. Doubt in and of itself isn t toxic; it s unexpressed doubt that turns toxic. Giving permission for independent thought leads to sgckier faith. Connect their sons and daughters to at least five caring adults. Kids need to develop a strong personal idengty for faith to sgck and community helps do just that. Reinforce that their faith is bigger than any moral failure or mistake. Young people tend to view their faith as a list of behaviors. A faith that sgcks is one that is based not primarily on behaviors, but on inner life change. Talk to high school juniors and seniors now about life aher college. Help high schoolers find a faith community to engage with at college and how to make wise decisions that will impact the rest of their lives. Don t let distance deter you from building sgcky networks of support. Don t undereshmate the power of the pen. Thoughqully wri$en cards o_en become lifelong keepsakes for young people. Use on the go achvihes to deepen relagonships and form faith. What might you do in your own home to increase the frequency and level of interacgon with your family members? Who will you include as part of your extended family? seeking to be a source of joy, hope and blessings? How might you help others model a sgcky faith for young people?
Here are examples of what we have been able to do with these coupons. COUPONS WANTED!!!! Not a coupon clipper? We ve started a new ministry to help stock the Sharing Center. All we need are coupon secgons from Sunday newspapers!! If you don t use them, we sure can! Consider asking your friends, co- workers, and neighbors to save them each week for the Sharing Center! There is a tray for the coupon secgons on the front counter in the office. Uncut is truly best for our purposes! Any? s just ask Gabriella Moir or Sherie Han_. They can definitely be from past weeks if you sgll have them! Total cost aher coupons: $3.30 Total cost aher coupons: $3.00

July youth achvihes Wednesday, July 9 3:00 OASIS Thursday, July 10 3:00 OASIS comes to St. Paul This year s 30 Hour Famine is August 15. Look for more informagon to be coming. RegistraGon begins October 15 and we will be submiung our registragons as soon as it opens up. We need to begin expressing our commitments. Sherie will have more informagon coming.
Allow me to begin by saying how thrilled and excited I am to accept the call of Director of Faith FormaGon. I have had many ideas that I have been itching to share and I can t wait to introduce some new things to the St. Paul community and begin to implement them in our programming. Last week, fi_een youth and myself headed off to Camp Mowana for a week of fun, faith formagon and making new friends. I think I have as much fun as the kids do and it allows me to form relagonships not only with the kids, but with colleagues as well. When I got back, we had a workshop for Safeguarding God s Children led by Joanne Caton- Frank and will have another on August 23. It is recommended that all volunteers who work with our children pargcipate in this workshop so that we can ensure St. Paul is a safe haven for all children. We also had a short meegng regarding forming a Women of the ELCA group here at St. Paul. There is strong interest and we will begin to move forward with this. We will have gatherings with OASIS on July 9 th and 10 th, the 9th at their facility and the 10 th at St. Paul. I have been working on geung a more reader friendly Epistle online with more informagon. I hope you are finding this to be useful and I welcome all suggesgons. If you have anything to be included, please have it to me by the 25 th of each month so I can ensure the newsle$er gets posted by the first of each month. The rest of the summer will include preparing for Faith Trek, VBS, programming and new ideas being put into acgon. My classes will resume in the fall so that I can concentrate on this planning. If you are vacagoning, have safe travels and enjoy blessed, peaceful Gmes with your families. Serving in Christ, Sherie Han_
