November/December 2018 Hebrews 10:23 Let us hold on firmly to the confession of our hope without wavering, since he who promised is faithful. This newsletter will hopefully help prepare us for a few coming changes in the next two months. And as we make those preparations I thought the above verse from Hebrews (which we will read in a few weeks) was appropriate. The churches of Calhoun have no Pastor of their own as of October 21 and Pastor and the elders here are working on a plan to help serve St John in Kampsville over the coming weeks. Much remains to be worked out. For now the plan is that Kampsville will begin to have their services at 10:30 AM on Sundays. That will allow Pastor (when needed) to leave immediately after Our Redeemer s service is over and get there in time (so long as the ferry is running). Hopefully there will be many Sundays when another Pastor or Seminary Student will be able to lead the Kampsville service, but that is still being worked out. Also still to be worked out is what will happen when the road to Kampsville needs to cross the Hardin bridge. So, there are a lot of questions. But questions are a part of our world. We don t know all things. As we focus on the song What Child is This during Advent and Christmas we are reminded that is true, but Christ is the Lord, He is still faithful, Whatever else may change we rest our hope in Him. In Christ, Pastor Steve Bible Options for everyone: The Sunday morning Adult Bible study is studying the book of Joshua this Sunday. Ladies Tuesday morning is studying from the LWML quarterly Anyone interested in resuming a 6-7 PM Wednesday study please talk with Pastor. LYF (Lutheran Youth Fellowship- grades 7-12) We will be meeting on November 9 at 2 PM to leave church for a hike and bonfire (weather permitting) at Pere Marquette. It will be a great chance to celebrate on veterans day and also Martin Luther s birthday! We may also use this opportunity to start getting organized for Please bring calendars, ideas and a suggestion for our 2019 officer election. We will contact by text, and Facebook everyone that we can. If you didn t get the latest text on the concerts last week talk to Pastor or Josh Jacobsen. Our attendance for the past two months was: Sat Sun Sunday School We will have its Christmas led by Tad this year. We are planning to have short program in place of a sermon on December 23. This should be an easy program to prepare for, but watch the bulletin and take home notes for more information about preparation.. Please bring your children to Sunday School each week. Please also encourage the older students to play a leadership role in the Christmas if at all possible.

2 Ladies Aid President Sandra. At our September meeting Kathy Harms presented a devotion about the Ebenezer Stone the stone of help from 1 Sam. 7:12. We finished plans for the salad luncheon. With the help of God and the congregation, we had another successful salad luncheon. We served over 100 and raised $90 from the quilt raffle to support Maria Sasieta in her mission work. We also made plans to celebrate LWML Sunday on October 7 and after the service recognized Kathy Harms for 50 years of service to our Ladies Aid Society. Emily, Joyce and I attended the SID LWML District Convention on September 28 and 29. We celebrated 75 years AND beyond with DECADES OF MISSIONS. There were 260 in attendance. We distributed $60,000 in mission funds for 12 different missions and elected new officers for the district. At our October meeting Kathy Harms opened the meeting with a devotion focusing on God s perfecting. We made plans to attend the Zone Fall Workshop at Immaus Lutheran Church in Dorsey. We collected school supplies for the Unity Lutheran School in East St Louis and listened to a representative from Unity share information about the school and the students. We discussed the upcoming plans for Operation Christmas and Food Pantry. For as long as we love one another, God will live in us and His love will complete us. 1 John 4:12. Other Notes of Thanks for the last two months: Thanks to those who have agreed to be nominated for election at our December voters meeting to serve our church in various offices. Thanks to those who tirelessly volunteer to prepare our church for services and reach out to our neighbors including our altar guild members. Thanks to our organists who work their schedules together so that God may be praised in music. Thanks to our Sunday School and midweek teachers. The food pantry is looking for special donations (particularly of toiletries and paper goods in addition to non-perishable food items and cash & checks so that they can buy the items they most need). Operation Christmas will have an angel tree up in Advent to provide gloves, hats and scarves to teenage girls on the list as usual. Meeting times for Church Council, Elders, Evangelism, Church Voters are on the calendar. Transfer these to your calendars and watch the Sunday Bulletins for any specifics.
