4 Corpus Christi Catholic Church Home Blessing on the Feast of the Epiphany From Catholic Household Blessings & Prayers On the Feast of the Epiphany, it is traditional to bless the home using chalk to write above the main entrance. Here s a suggested format for the blessing: Leader: + In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. All: Amen. Leader: Let us praise God, who fills our hearts and homes with peace. Blessed be God forever. All: Blessed be God forever. Leader: The Word became flesh and made his dwelling place among us. It is Christ who enlightens our hearts and homes with his love. May all who enter this home find Christ s light and love. Reader: When Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, in the days of King Herod, behold, magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem, saying, Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw his star at its rising and have come to do him homage. After their audience with the king they set out. And behold, the star that they had seen at its rising preceded them, until it came and stopped over the place where the child was. They were overjoyed at seeing the star, and on entering the house they saw the child with Mary his mother. They prostrated themselves and did him homage. Then they opened their treasures and offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. And having been warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed for their country by another way. The Wild Goose Wednesdays, Jan. 9, 16, 23, & 30 6:30 pm in the Parish Center While That Man Is You has been a blessing to our men s ministry, we will shift from using it as our small group focus to The Wild Goose series by Fr. Dave Pivonka, TOR. Since Fr. Dave led our men s retreat and left those in attendance deeply inspired, it is our hope that viewing the series as a group will have the same effect on all the men in our parish. Coffee Break Women's Ministry Scripture Study, Prayer, and Fellowship Mary: A Biblical Walk with the Blessed Mother is a Catholic Bible study that will bring you on an extraordinary pilgrimage, revealing Mary's unique role in God's Kingdom and in our lives. Part 1: Praying the Christian Virtues helps one to deepen his or her prayer life and discover what to do for spiritual dryness and obstacles in prayer. It also introduces the different methods of Ignatian prayer, meditation, contemplation and Consciousness Examen. A small group will meet with two trained facilitators for 1-2 hours, once a week for 12 weeks to pray and faith-share. Here is a partial list of what kept us busy. The Annual Charity Drawing resulted in over $10, being donated to St. Vincent de Paul. Moved and located hundreds of vehicles used during the Phoenix Waste Management Open. A donation for this event funds our charities. Conducted Texas Hold em Poker Nights with proceeds benefiting our parish seminarians. Served as chefs cooking hot dogs and burgers at the Parish Picnic. Hosted three Pancake Breakfasts with proceeds helping our parish seminarians. Sponsored quarterly Blood Drives so the parish at large may help save lives. Assisted in the annual Arizona Special Olympics. Supported our diocesan clergy through the annual Priest Appreciation Dinner. Hosted the 27 th annual Joe Hasulak Memorial Golf Tournament with proceeds assisting Maggie s Place. Awarded three K of C Sal Scordato Scholarship Awards to students with impressive resumes. Hosted the 11 th annual Knights Kids Christmas Shopping Spree at JCPenney s store. Picked and packaged citrus at Miles Jesu Center that helps that religious order raise funds. Attended an annual spiritual retreat at the Franciscan Retreat Center. Sponsored a Memorial Mass for departed members of Corpus Christi Council Provided financial support for the annual meal following the Christmas Novena. Embraced the new program of Supreme Council, FAITH IN ACTION. Our goal is to be more active in our parish and community. The programs that we will offer are intended to draw men closer to their faith, families, and community while defending life in all stages and conditions. Also, our Fourth Degree Honor Guard participated in the Ahwatukee Easter Parade, the Phoenix Veterans Day Parade, the Arizona Rosary Celebration, and numerous other ceremonials. The Knights of Columbus: In truth, we do help people, change lives, and save lives! 8 Vacation Bible School 2019 SAVE THE DATE: June 3-7 Roar VBS is an African safari adventure for the entire crew. As we begin the new year and start to prepare for VBS, please note that we are in need of: teachers & aides, arts & crafts people, a 6 th grade service event coordinator, and MOST IMPORTANTLY TWO people to share the duties of Coordinator and Co-Coordinator. It s not hard (you know how much FUN we have). You just need some great organizational skills and a willing heart to share with children and adults. All Catholics living in the Parish area and regularly participating in the liturgy are invited to register in the Parish. Church attendance alone does NOT make you and your family registered members. Registration is required for Baptism, First Communion, First Reconciliation, Confirmation, Marriage and Catholic Education programs. Adults 18and over need to be registered separately from their parents in order to get married, have their own children baptized, or be Godparents or Sponsors. In order to be a Godparent or Sponsor or to receive discounted tuition rates at Catholic Schools, one must be a registered Catholic and active in the parish, which is indicated by use of contribution envelopes or the Online Giving program. Registration forms can be filled out in the Parish Office or via our parish website. How do I have my child Baptized? Before scheduling the date, please call the Office for a welcoming conversation with the priest. A preparation class is also required for parents prior to the child s Baptism and are offered once a month. How do I request a Communion Call or Anointing of the Sick? Please call the parish office at DO NOT WAIT until someone is near death to have the person anointed! Although Anointing of the Sick was once known as Last Rites, waiting until a person is near death could risk that person not being able to receive the Sacrament if he or she should pass away prior to the priest being able to arrive. Anointing of the Sick can only be administered while the person is still alive. How do I get married in the Church? The Diocese of Phoenix requires a NINE MONTH marriage preparation process. John Deg, Director of Married Life Ministries, will meet with you to explain the process, including when you will meet with the Pastor to set a date. Do NOT set the date prior to this meeting as it cannot be guaranteed until then.
