3 Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time June 12, 2016 T P P By Parishioner Brenda Keller My journey began in December 2014 when I tore my Achilles tendon in my right foot. When I began experiencing pain in my left leg, I attributed it to my favoring my left side. After an appointment with my primary care physician, a referral to an orthopedic doctor and several unsuccessful cortisone injections, it was decided that I needed an MRI. On March 15, 2015 I received a phone call from my doctor informing me that I had tumors in and around my pelvis indicating cancer. He ordered a biopsy of the pelvis and referred me to an oncologist. On March 26, 2015 I met with the oncologist and learned the results of the biopsy. I was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and given a prognosis of 4 to 18 months. My family was totally devastated. I immediately knew that we needed to turn to prayer. All I could think of was the first line in the Believer s Prayer I had received a few years before at Christmas which read, Dear Lord, help me to cherish Faith as the greatest gift I can receive. I had been saying that prayer since receiving it but did not know then that it would prepare me for events in my future. That prayer and my faith truly strengthened me for the days to come. The next step in my journey was a lung biopsy to determine if my cancer was caused by a mutant gene. If so, I would receive an oral targeted drug treatment instead of traditional chemotherapy. After agonizing weeks awaiting results, I received a phone call that I did have the mutant gene and would start on the targeted medication immediately. We were overjoyed with the good news. Upon learning my diagnosis, the outpouring of prayers and support from family and friends was unbelievable. My Bible study group at Corpus Christi, Coffee Break Ministry, began prayers immediately. They are strong prayer warriors and they began a 24 Hour Adoration, Divine Mercy Novena and said many rosaries. Family and friends also said many rosaries, enrolled me in Novenas and prayer groups all over the United States, and I was enrolled in the St. Peregrine Cancer Shrine in Mesa. I also had numerous Masses said on my behalf. In addition, an untold number of family, friends and people I do not know offered prayers for me. I have been blessed with prayers from many religious faiths. Throughout my journey, I have had numerous set-backs, critical challenges, hospitalizations and clinic visits. More importantly, I have also had numerous blessings and miracles overcoming all that I have faced. God continues to answer my prayers and those of my many beloved Prayer Warriors. I have gone from a wheelchair, to a walker, to a cane. Now I am very mobile and have even joined Curves for exercising on a regular basis. My most recent scans indicate that my cancer is under control. There are no active signs of tumors or lesions. I acknowledge the contributions of the doctors, medical staff, research, medication, and facilities that have contributed to the progress in my journey, but I firmly believe God had his hand in the outcome. All I can tell you is that I am where I am today because of the Power of Prayer. I could feel it working in my body and spirit. God has showered me with his mercy. I don t know how long God wills me to continue this journey, but I am so thankful and blessed for the time I have been given. The Power of Prayer does work. Miracles do happen. Thanks be to God. 5 Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time June 12, STATE RAFFLE A GREAT SUCCESS! The state-wide Knights of Columbus Raffle for Charities enjoyed one of the best years in its 30-year history in 2016 with donations topping $300,000 for the second time. Our State Council regularly gives money on behalf of all of us to Arizona Right to Life and other Pro-life causes. The proceeds from the Raffle make these donations possible. Our Corpus Christi Council once again received the largest share of contributions, an amount of more than $20,000. Half or more than $10,000 will be returned to aid our own St. Vincent de Paul Conference in Corpus Christi Parish, enabling a joint evangelization through our combined works of mercy. These results would not have been attained without the support of the patrons who procured tickets thank you! Additional gratitude goes to the tremendous number of volunteers under the leadership of State Chairman Dennis Sullivan and Council Chairman Bill Steinkemper. Congratulations Brother Knights on a job well done! CONGRATULATIONS TO TOM KATO Corpus Christi Council s Tom Kato, Former District Deputy, Past Faithful Navigator, and Past Grand Knight, was elected State Warden at last month s Knights of Columbus 109 th State Convention in Tucson. Tom has worked tirelessly for many years helping to build the domestic Church by sharing his Catholic faith: coordinating pro-life events, praying the rosary outside Planned Parenthood in solidarity with our priests, and so much more. 6 Corpus Christi Catholic Church Fight Hum[n Tr[ffi]king Sr. Monica from Mary Queen of Heaven Missionaries, a religious community from the Archdiocese of Cebu, Philippines, is visiting us once again this weekend. She will have rosaries and other religious articles available for donation after all Masses. She is asking for our help to support their mission of saving women and children who are victims of human trafficking and prostitution in the Philippines. They are especially in need of support for the construction of the second building of the Home of Love. It is a home for the women and children rescued from the streets. At the same time, they are looking for sponsors for the 4,000 children they are helping with their high school education. Any donation from your heart would make their missionary work possible. THE JUBILEE YEAR OF MERCY Dec.8, Nov. 20, 2016 Go to Confession the Priest is Jesus By Father Cajetan Cuddy, O.P. If God is truly merciful, why do we need to go to confession? After all, the Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches that God reveals his infinite mercy by freely forgiving sins (CCC 270). The sacrament of Penance appears to render God s mercy conditional and less than freely given. Why can t Christians just confess their sins to God in the privacy of their own hearts and homes? Why do we need priests? We need confession because the infinite mercy of God is not lifeless or inert. His mercy produces definite, saving effects within the Christian person. After the Resurrection, Jesus gave his chosen disciples a remarkable power: the power to be living instruments of his own divine mercy. As the Father has sent me, so I send you Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained, (John 20:21-23). Just as the eternal Father sent the eternal Son to save the world from its sin and misery, so the eternal Son sends his priests into the world to extend his saving mercy to all peoples (CCC ). Jesus really takes away the sins of the world. He does freely forgive. And it is in confession that we truly encounter the merciful Savior in his living instruments of mercy the priests of his Church. 6

How do I register? All Catholics living within the Parish and regularly participating in the liturgy are invited to register in the Parish. Church attendance alone does NOT make you and your family registered members. Registration is required for Baptism, First Communion, First Reconciliation, Confirmation, Marriage and Catholic Education programs. Adult children, 18 +, need to be registered separately from their parents in order to get mar r ied, have their own children baptized, or be Godparents or Sponsors. Also, in order to be a Godparent or Sponsor or receive discounted tuition rates at Catholic Schools, one must be a registered Catholic and active in the parish, which is indicated by use of contribution envelopes or the Online Giving program.
