And I hope, somewhere in the next year, you surprise yourself... I hope you will have a wonderful year, that you'll dream dangerously and outrageously, that you'll make something that didn't exist before you made it, that you will be loved and that you will be liked, and that you will have people to love and to like in return. Come, let us worship the LORD! *HYMN NO. 110 Love Has Come PRAYER OF CONFESSION AND RECONCILIATION The psalmist reminds us, The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. He will not always accuse, nor will he keep his anger forever. With this knowledge, we may confess our sins before God and one another with confidence. God of the heights and depths, at our own peril, we turn away from you. When our shortcomings are exposed to your light, we wish to hide. We fear your judgment; we forget your mercy. When we are angry, we plot little revenges and shun your desire for reconciliation and compassion. Your ways are not our ways, for your ways are permeated with love. We look to you from the petty darkness of our hiding places and hear your call to come into the light. Surround us, O God, with your forgiving light, that we might live as people of peace and truth. Amen. (Please take this time in silence to offer your own prayers of confession confessing your need for God and naming those barriers that keep you from knowing life as God s beloved child.) ASSURANCE OF PARDON Friends, God does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities. For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far he removes our transgressions from us. 7 Sunday School & Family Activities Youth Group Apple Pie Baking & Delivery today, 1:00pm (please note time change): Join us for one of our favorite activities: making delicious apple pies and then delivering them to some folks from our congregation. (We ll bake enough to taste them ourselves, too!) Please bring paring knives and peelers carefully! Sunday School Clean-Up Jan. 13, 12:30-2:30pm: Sunday School teachers and students, as well as youth looking for volunteer hours, are needed to help clean up following the busy holiday season! We will be cleaning out and organizing the Art Closet and cleaning up Sunday School classrooms. Please RSVP to Christina Pressley by Jan. 12. (Optional BYO lunch in the Art noon.) Mission Friendship House Breakfast Closet: On the first Monday of the month, volunteers from Concord deliver breakfast supplies to the FH Women s Day Center. We need the following items: cans of regular coffee 3-lb. bags of sugar, sealed in plastic bag large containers of powdered creamer large jars of peanut butter and jelly large boxes of regular tea bags. Place your donations in the designated basket in the Narthex. (Personal-size toiletries for women & men are also helpful.) Come learn about some people you may never have heard of: Oswald, Aidan, Hild, Cuthbert, Wilfred, and Bede. Concord Book Club Sundays, 9:45-10:25am, Sanctuary Lounge: Now reading and discussing The Girl in the Letter by Emily Gunnis.
