1 November 25, 2018 THE SERVICE OF WORSHIP FOR CHRIST THE KING SUNDAY 10:30 a.m. * All who are able may stand Congregation reads aloud the bold print THE TIME OF CENTERING I like watching people. People are very interesting to me. Because no matter what we have done in our lives, no matter what has been done to us. No matter how many rocks, no matter how blind we have been. Even if we have changed entirely into something that is completely outside of human, there is hope. ~ C.S. Lewis, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader THE COMMUNITY OF FAITH GATHERS PRELUDE Give Thanks and Sing Cuthbert Harris Winthrop Buswell, bass-baritone Give thanks and sing, O soul of mine, today! The dawn is breaking, night has passed away; New hopes awake, sad dreams and tears are vain, give thanks and sing, O soul of mine, again! Give thanks and sing at noontide s golden hour, see how the sunshine kisses leaf and flower! Great voices call, the grief and strife are o er; give thanks and sing, O soul of mine, once more! Give thanks, my soul, when falls the solemn night, kneel down in prayer beneath the starry light; The sleeping world forgets the grief and pain, give thanks and sing, O soul of mine, again! WELCOME Rev. Kathie S. Pownall SILENCE AS THE LIGHT OF CHRIST ENTERS *CALL TO WORSHIP Jesus blessed the children. Come, let us worship God who touches and blesses us. *HYMN NO. 475 Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing (Children are invited to go to Sunday School during the hymn, where they will be filling gift boxes for the Seamen s Center. They will return during the DOXOLOGY for the Baptism.) PRAYER OF CONFESSION AND RECONCILIATION Lord, we confess that you have given us gifts and yet we frequently complain and are at times greedy. Forgive us for fearing and doubting and hiding our gifts. Forgive us our lack of love and trust in you. Amen. (Time of silent personal confession)
2 ASSURANCE OF PARDON God says, You are my beloved children. In you I am well pleased. Go, and love one another. AMEN *RESPONSE (all sing) Crown Him with Many Crowns NO. 268, v. 1 Crown him with may crowns, the lamb upon his throne; Hark, how the heavenly anthem drowns all music but its own! Awake, my soul and sing of him who died for thee, And hail him as thy matchless King through all eternity. *GREETING OF PEACE Since God has made peace with us, let us make peace with each other. The peace of Christ be with you all. And also with you. (We greet each other: The peace of Christ be with you. ) PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION (unison) Almighty God, in you are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. Open our eyes that we may see the wonders of your Word; and give us grace that we may clearly understand and freely choose the way of your wisdom; through Christ our Lord, Amen.
