6 SERMON NOTES ADVENT SONG LIGHT A CANDLE IN THE DARKNESS He did not come in wealth and grandeur He did not stand with men of power He had no status to commend Him He was homeless, He was poor Chorus: Light a candle in the darkness Light a candle in the night Let the love of Jesus light us Light a candle in the night But he came to heal the wounded And he came to heal the scars Of a world that s bruised and broken Where the image has been marred 6

7 PRAYERS THE WORLD RUSSIA and UKRAINE Pray for all those affected by rising tensions between Russia and Ukraine. May the leaders of these nations have constructive meetings so that war and loss of life may be avoided. Pray for many people in Ukraine, especially the old, sick and disabled who are very fearful of what the future might hold. May they turn to Jesus and find in him a sure foundation and anchor for their lives. MISSIONS PRISON FELLOWSHIP SINGAPORE (PFS) Give thanks for the ministry of PFS and the wise leadership provided by Andrew Tay and many volunteers. May PFS continue to support prisoners and their families with Christian love and compassion. May needed funds by raised by the Angel Tree project. SINGAPORE DIOCESE Pray for Church of the Ascension and their Vicar Rev Dr Joel Leow and Associate Minister, Rev Daniel Lim. May they work together to help this Church faithfully teach God s Word and reach out with the love of Christ. SINGAPORE Pray for all in authority in the countries represented by those who are part of St George s, including our leaders in Singapore, President Mdm Halimah Yacob and our Prime Minister Mr Lee Hsien Loong. ST GEORGE S CHURCH FAMILY Give thanks for a fantastic time of fellowship and outreach at the Christmas Lunch this week when Hannah Ling shared about her time in Laos. Pray for good preparations for our Christmas Eve and Christmas Day services May we connect well with those who attend, so that they will want to regularly attend our Church to find out more about Jesus. Praise God for last Sunday night s 9 Lessons and Carols, and the powerful reading of God s Word, alongside the inspiring music. Pray for God s care, peace and healing for those in our Church family suffering from serious illnesses including Jenna Howe, Janet Tan, Kah Seng, Peter Stead, Geoffrey Chiam and Liza Lacno. John the Baptist answered them all I baptize you with water. But one more powerful than I will come, the thongs of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire. His winnowing fork is in his hand to clear his threshing floor and to gather the wheat into his barn, but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.
