6 SERMON NOTES ADVENT SONG LIGHT A CANDLE IN THE DARKNESS He did not come in wealth and grandeur He did not stand with men of power He had no status to commend Him He was homeless, He was poor Chorus: Light a candle in the darkness Light a candle in the night Let the love of Jesus light us Light a candle in the night But he came to heal the wounded And he came to heal the scars Of a world that s bruised and broken Where the image has been marred And we see him in the hungry And the homeless refugee In the sick and dying children His hands reach out to you and me And I feel his breath upon me And he whispers follow me, And he grants his fire within me says Let it shine for all to see 6

7 PRAYERS THE WORLD MIDDLE EAST Pray for all those who call the Middle East home. At this time of year there is often heightened tensions and an increase in violent incidents. Pray for peace and calm for all residents and may the Christians who live here be free to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, the prince of peace. MISSIONS DEANERY OF LAOS Church of the Holy Spirit, Vientiane (CHS) Pray that many international workers and visitors in the capital of Laos will come to CHS for Christmas Services. Pray that Rev Tony Paton and the lay leaders of CHS will welcome newcomers with the wonderful love of Jesus, the one who died that we might be forgiven. SINGAPORE DIOCESE Pray for joy filled Christmas Services all across Singapore and in our Deanery countries, as we celebrate the coming of Jesus Christ, our Saviour and Lord. SINGAPORE Pray for all in authority in the countries represented by those who are part of St George s, including our leaders in Singapore, President Mdm Halimah Yacob and our Prime Minister Mr Lee Hsien Loong. May our leaders govern with wisdom and integrity. ST GEORGE S CHURCH FAMILY Give thanks for the great time of fun and learning about Jesus, enjoyed by the youth, who attended the recent Larkhill Camps. May the leaders involved be refreshed as they take a well-earned break. Pray that we will welcome all who come for our Christmas Eve and Christmas Day services. May all those giving talks be clear in their sharing of what it means for God to become one of us. May all those on holidays and travelling be kept safe and not be anxious, but rather know God s peace through prayer. Pray for those who continue to mourn the loss of loved ones including Margaret Chiam and family mourning the passing of Dr Geoffrey and Lori Mann and family grieving the sudden death of Lori s father. Pray for God s care, peace and healing for those in our Church family suffering from serious illnesses including Jenna Howe, Janet Tan, Kah Seng, Peter Stead and Liza Lacno. May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 11 MISSION PARTNERS Supporters of the Kokkos / Hope Children s Centre in Cambodia will be hosting a courtyard sale of Christmas hampers TODAY. These lovely gift hampers contain a collection of pepper, sea salt and other indigenous artisan products. Proceeds of the sale will go towards the Hope Centre located in a rural area near Kampot, Cambodia where 80 children (age 5 to 12) from learn prayer, self-discipline, hygiene, and literacy and confidence in a supportive Christian environment.
