Thanks for helping make the GraceVine and Web Site informative and interesting! 2 As we approach the 10th anniversary of the September 11th terror attacks, let us keep in prayer all those who lost their lives in this disaster and those who survived this attack. May they be healed of their memories and pain from this event. May God grant them peace and know that they are always in our prayers, on this day and every day. Quest for Quilts to take place Saturday, September 24th... Join the ladies of the Service Workshop for a few hours of fellowship while we assemble quilts for Lutheran World Relief. Besides tying knots or sewing quilt tops, you just might meet a new friend or get to know an old one better! Please come any time between 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 24th. A light lunch will be provided. Quilts will be displayed in the sanctuary Sunday, September 25th at which time they will be blessed.

3 Join us for The Last Beach Bash to Celebrate Kick-Off Sunday! Sunday, September 11th immediately following 10:00 a.m. worship It ll be a day full of fun, food, entertainment and the beginning of Fall Children s Ministry Programs! Parents and children, come and meet our teachers, check out our Children s Ministry Programs. We ll supply the main course, delicious cold cut sandwiches and cold drinks! Sign up to bring a side salad, pasta side, or dessert to share. Be sure to let us know you re coming! Sign-up sheet is on the church bulletin board. Upcoming Events Entertainment will include The Froglady! Deb Krohn, a.k.a. the FrogLady, an award-winning professional naturalist who is passionate of all things wild and loves to pass it on to those attending her programs This event will be fun, and educational for all. 4 Upcoming Events and What s new at Grace... 4 Grace Fall Worship Schedule Begins Sunday, September 18th Each Sunday we will hold 2 services, 8:30 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. will be our Contemporary Worship Gathering. Holy Communion will be offered on the 1st and 3rd Sundays at both services. At the 10:00 a.m. service, children will join their parents for worship and after the Children s Message will leave to attend Promiseland and Children s Ministries. Following both worship services, join us in Café Grace for Coffee Fellowship. Join us Sunday as the people of God gather. Confirmation Orientation will take place Tuesday, September 27th, at 7:00 p.m. Confirmation Parents, please expect a letter with information about that evening s meeting. College Moms begins a new year. This year we ll be forming our group and invite the Moms of High School Juniors and above to join us. If you are interested in joining, please contact Julie Cashman at home at 847/ or on her cell at 847/ Women's Bible Study will begin "Seeking A Heart Like His: Lessons from David" by Beth Moore on Tuesday September 6th at 7 p.m., and continuing through November 15th. Join our work crew to make a difference by helping provide a home for people less fortunate. Grace Lutheran has been a part of building over 100 Habitat for Humanity homes in Lake County. We will continue this important activity on Saturday, September 17th. We have a new construction site at 626 Ash Street in Waukegan. Work begins at 8:00 a.m. and finishes up around 4:00 p.m. Direction sheets are available from Art Struss or check the church bulletin board. Congratulations to Stacey Kastilahn (daughter of Craig and Linda Kastilahn) and Matthew Christ who were joined in marriage on August 6th. We welcome to the Grace Family of Faith through Holy Baptism: Mya Jane, daughter of Corey and Amy Weaver on August 7th. Congratulations to Jenna and Jim Mertz on the birth of their daughter Abigail. 6 DONATIONS FOR LUTHERAN WORLD RELIEF SCHOOL KITS ARE DUE SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 4TH! Service Workshop thanks all of you who donated supplies this summer and ask that you turn in your donations on Sunday, September 4th. A school kit may provide the only supplies for children returning to school after disruption of war or other recent disasters! For families who have lost everything, these kits let them know someone across the sea cares and conveys a priceless message of love and commitment to people in desperate need. We meet the first Tuesday evening of each month at Winchester from 6:15 p.m. to about 8:00 p.m. Because we are now helping on two floors, it takes more of us to cover. August is the last of the slow months for contributions. Grace Lutheran Church s expenses continue throughout the entire year. Some expenses can be delayed until income picks up, however, we still need to keep the lights and the A/C on. Have you considered enrolling in the Simply Giving program which lets you contribute automatically, even while you are away on vacation? You determine the timing and amount of this automatic payment. Just call the Church Office for a registration form and further information.
