2 From the Pastor... Church Family, Our Family Thanks You for Your Love, Prayers and Support Thank you for all of the love you showed our family in the loss of my grandmother, Dot Gray, or to me she was Mamaw. She was an incredible lady who loved God and loved people. Our family appreciates so much the calls, s, texts, and cards many of you sent during such a tough time. We have the amazing benefit to know where my grandmother is now because she placed her faith in Christ at the young age of eight. It was a tremendous blessing from God to have the opportunity to be her pastor for the final months of her life. Thank you especially to the Heavenly Angels Sunday School class for the way you loved her and cared for us in our loss. Christmas We have arrived at one of the busiest times of the year, Christmas! It will be busy with shopping, visiting family, meetings and dinners; so I want to encourage you to remember why we do all that we do during this time of year. God sent His Son, to be born of a virgin, to live a sinless life, that He might die for our sins, making a way for us to have a relationship with God through Jesus Christ. In all you do, make sure you don t forget to let the light of Christ shine through you as you shop in stores, while at family dinners, and at office Christmas parties. Christmas Musical and Annual Christmas Party On Sunday, December 9, make sure that you join us for the Christmas Musical and then stay for the Annual Christmas Party that follows. This is a wonderful time to not just show up with your family but to invite those around you who are far from Christ. Realize that many people are more open to the Gospel at this time of year than at any other time. Invite someone who is lost to come with you that night, and let them be exposed to the Gospel that will be shared. Christmas Eve I m also thrilled to worship with you for my first time ever at our annual Christmas Eve Service. For all the years we have vacationed here and for all the wonderful things we have heard about this time, we have never been in Hilton Head for this service, so I can t wait to enjoy this with you! This is yet another wonderful service with which we need to be intentional. Look for opportunities to invite those around you, especially considering those who might not have family close at this time of year. While this is a joyous time for many of us, there are many around us also who are hurting during this time, as they may experience their first Christmas without a loved one, or perhaps this time is the reminder of a broken relationship or family. So, as I tell my girls every morning when I drop them off for school, turn your radar on. Invite someone who may be hurting to our Christmas Eve service, and maybe even to your house on Christmas Day. Don t miss people they are the very reason Christ came to earth. New Mission Statement and Vision With great excitement, we rolled out our new mission statement in November: Making Biblical disciples who love, serve, and share Christ with all people. We also shared some different aspects of this vision, including a new Strategy Map (how we do it) and our church s Key Values (what drives us). Our next sermon series will begin to unfold this vision. On December 16, we will begin a series on the life of Christ, which we are calling Relate. This is the first word in our Strategy Map, and we will spend time looking at the many occasions in which Christ stopped what He was doing to minister to people. We will kick this off with the coming of Christ at Christmas, and conclude it with His resurrection at Easter. I hope you will be challenged to slow down in life and be intentional to build relationships with the lost around you as bridges for the Gospel. Looking Forward with Anticipation Lastly, I thank you so much church for your prayers and encouragement. It is such a tremendous joy to serve as your pastor. I appreciate what God has done in the past both in and through this church and her leadership, and I look forward with great anticipation to all that He will do in the years ahead. Isn t following Christ a blast?! I love you church! Brett Myers Remember to keep the love and joy that you feel at Christmas in your heart all year long. Remember every day, the special gift God gave us through Jesus Christ His Son! 2

3 O Come, Emmanuel Presented by the Sanctuary Choir First Baptist Church Hilton Head Island Sunday, December 9, :00 PM Childcare Provided No Admission Fee Church Christmas Party immediately following the program in the Family Life Center. Love Packages is a ministry aimed at putting Christian literature and bibles into the hands of people around the world. It is their goal to send this material to ministries in many poor countries to distribute freely to people hungry for the Word of God. They primarily have 2 criteria for

5 material that they will take: 1) something that will lead someone to faith in Christ and 2) something that will disciple a believer. Parents Night Out: Saturday, December 1st from 4:00 PM -7:00 PM Children 2 years old through 5th grade are invited to celebrate the birth of the King. We will make a fun craft and enjoy a pizza dinner! Parents, this is your chance to go get Christmas gifts, wrap the gifts up or just rest during the busy holiday season! Those who called after November 29th, unfortunately, will not be able to attend. Volunteers: We are in need of volunteers for Sunday school and Children s Church. Are you able to give 1 hour per month to the children - or every other month? Please Wendy Gudz at wgudz@fbchhi.org. Good News Club The Good News Club began on Thursday, October 11th at Hilton Head Prep and ended on November 15th, 2018 for the fall semester. This Club is totally free! Individuals from FBCHHI that went through training with Child Evangelism Fellowship are going to Hilton Head Prep from 3:15 pm unto 4:00 pm every Thursday to teach God s word, play games and serve snacks. We are honored to be able to share the gospel in the school. Please partner with us through continued prayer. Missions: FBCHHI is a mission-minded church so we want to take every opportunity to teach our children to give to missions. For one year the children will be collecting money for Hetch and Katie Cal who are missionaries in Guatemala. Katie and Hetch Cal have been very faithfully working with the children at FBCHHI. We want to give back to them. Please encourage the children to bring a donation of money to give to this mission. Children move from room to room for different activities for Children s Church. Children s Church: Join us for Children s Church from 0 through 2nd Grade. Children s Church includes music (worship time), Bible story, prayer, crafts, snacks, mission moments and games. Learning God s word should be exciting, fun and interesting. AWANA Program: Please invite friends and neighbors to AWANA on Wednesday nights from 6:20 pm to 7:30 pm. The age groups include: Puggles: 2-3 years old, Cubbies 4- Kindergarten, Sparks Grade 1 & 2 and T & T Grade 3-5. We have amazing Leaders. FBCHHI Children s Ministry would like to thank you for your dedication. Awana Children enjoyed some holiday fun while learning at church! Kid s Matter to God and FBCHHI! Children had a fun time playing while their parents attended the Annual Business Meeting. 5

6 Student Ministry FBCHHI Student Ministry continues its series Run through the Bible every 6:30 pm in the Student Building. Each week is illed with new games and illustrations as we highlight the history and context of each book of the Bible. We just wanted to say thank you church for the support that will offer hope at this time of year. The backpacks will be delivered Sunday, December 16th, as students serve and host a worship service for recipients. We will leave the church at 4:00 pm. Our former Director of Children, Anna Garduce and her husband, Chris, were commissioned as missionaries through the Southern Baptist Convention s International Mission Board at a service in Virginia in November. They will soon be leaving to serve in southern Madagascar. Please keep then, and their children, Noah and Titus, in your prayers. (l-r: Mary and Roger Smith and Wally and Jean Smith) Our church held the Annual Business Meeting in November, and we celebrated in the Family Life Center with ice cream. We felt like we were in an old-fashioned soda shop hosted by two Smith couples with quality ice cream, homemade cookies, and professional ice cream scoopers. 18
