By concluding the year with this feast we are proclaiming our faith that Jesus Christ is the one and only King over all seasons, all peoples, and all of creation.

It s easy to understand today s scriptures as events that happened long ago and far away, or predictions that will come true somewhere, some day. But they invite us to claim Christ as our King here and now. Jesus words to Pilate in the Gospel remind us that his kingdom transcends time and place. And the prophecies from Daniel and Revelation give us reason to be faithful to Christ our King right here and right now. By concluding the year with this feast we are proclaiming our faith that Jesus Christ is the one and only King over all seasons, all peoples, and all of creation. Feast of Christ the King Today, the last Sunday of the liturgical year, we celebrate Christ as king, the one who conquered sin and death bringing us eternal life as children of God.

As Jesus told his disciple, Whoever wishes to be great among you shall be your servant. As disciples of Jesus, we are a kingly people.

3 Feast of Christ the King Today, the last Sunday of the liturgical year, we celebrate Christ as king, the one who conquered sin and death bringing us eternal life as children of God. The ideal king, as Jesus Christ, loves his people and is totally focused on the well-being of his people. Honor, power, prestige, wealth, comfort do not describe the ideal king. As Jesus told his disciple, Whoever wishes to be great among you shall be your servant. As disciples of Jesus, we are a kingly people. We too are called upon to love our neighbor as ourselves and to look to the well-being of all God s people, especially those in our daily lives and those most in need. Make This Advent Preparation for God Becoming One With Us Two DVDs will be playing in the St. Pius X meeting room this Advent: Saint Nicholas: The Real Story will play on Tuesday December 4, close to St. Nicholas Day. Everyone knows about Santa Claus, who lives at the North Pole and distributes gifts every Christmas. But is there historical evidence for this jolly old character? Take a thrilling journey with historian Mark Wilson, not to the North Pole, but to Turkey and Italy. Here, the important story of St. Nicholas, a third-century bishop, emerges from the midst of legend, unveiling a portrait of a kind, courageous leader who stood for truth at a critical time in Church history. The Story of the Nativity will play on Tuesday December 11. This DVD is an in-depth documentary that provides a fascinating account of the real Christmas story. Drawing on the insights of biblical scholars and historians, The Story of the Nativity looks at the traditions of Jesus origins, with biblical scholars Jesuit Fr. Mitch Pacwa, Dr. Timothy Gray, and Dr. Ed Sri, and popular authors Peter Kreeft, Jaohnette Benkovic, Roy Schoeman, Steven Ray and others. Each DVD plays for 1 hour. Showing starts at 6:20pm, to coincide with the children s religious education program. All are welcome; bring a friend! Visitation ladies and gentlemen are planning their annual Christmas Pirohy Sale - scheduled for December 1 & 2 and 8 & 9, following Mass. All are potato/cheese at $7.50 a dozen and frozen. Due to construction in the community center, we ask you to come into the kitchen for pick-up. Workers are needed to get these treats made. Anyone is welcome to help on Tuesday, Nov. 27th at 9:00am. Dec. 22 Visitation 11am The St. Vincent DePaul Society will have Oplatki (Christmas Wafers) at both Churches December 1 & 2 as well as the parish office. Donations accepted, there is no set price. Quantities are limited so get them early. Oplatki (A legacy from the past) began millenniums ago in Poland, Slovakia, and Lithuania as a shared blessing before the Christmas Eve and/or Christmas day meal. The leader and those present begin with the sign of the cross. The oplatki is broken into pieces and passed around the table to those sharing in the meal. The leader thanks God for the food and for all who are present and for those who are unable to be with them. Emphasis is stated that through this sharing of the holy wafers (oplatki) we are God bound to forgive each other of all wrongs that may have been committed through the year. Thus the oplatki wafer is known as Bread of unifying Love. The oplatki is consumed and all share in the Christmas meal.

During this month of November we ask the intercession of the saints and the loving mercy of God for all of our departed loved ones. May they rest in peace. Celebrating Creation Want to be kind to the earth? Buy a real Christmas tree, if your circumstances allow, rather than an artificial one. Real trees can be recycled as mulch or left to rot and enrich the soil in a forest. Artificial trees are made of plastic, a large problem for the environment. Plastic is not biodegradable. Artificial trees end up in landfills for our children, their children, and their children s children to deal with. Give our children a real gift this Christmas and avoid junking up their world. We will continue to register children for our Tuesday evening program. Parents of first grade children: please be aware that your child must be enrolled in religious education for both first and second grade to be ready to receive the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist during their second year of school. A reminder: As we move into December, we would like to remind parents that if religious education has to be cancelled due to weather conditions, WTAE TV will announce the cancellation. Every time we pray the Lord s Prayer, we pray that God s kingdom come and God s will be done on earth as in heaven. This can only happen when God s kingdom of goodness, peace, and oneness is planted in our hearts- in everyone s heart. Recycling Aluminum Cans Thanks to all those who deposit aluminum cans for recycling in the bins at Visitation Church. Proceeds from this fundraiser go to the St. Vincent de Paul Society. All those depositing cans are asked to please leave the cans in a plastic bag before placing them in the bins. This makes it much easier to remove them and take them to the recycle center.
