3 Sermon Notes: AM Advent: Heads Up and Ready We won t the. up your. Be. Welcome to Hope Christian Reformed Church! Large print Bibles are available; please request one from an usher if needed Nursery is available, as well as a quiet room in the northeast corner (Classroom 9) where the service can be viewed on the TV. Please join us for coffee fellowship after the morning service. You may also view our church service on Channel 77. The morning service will be played at 1:00pm on Sunday and the evening service will be played at 10:00am on Thursday. If you have any prayer requests you may them to hopecrchull@gmail.com or you may call Pastor Todd at (712) WORSHIP NOTES Today we welcome the Advent season. We gather in Hope to worship our Lord. The morning s text from Luke 21:25-36 reminds us be ready and assures us that when Jesus comes, it won t pass by unnoticed. In the evening, in Matthew 19:13-15, Jesus speaks about the kingdom of heaven belonging those who come as children. With hopeful obedience let us worship God today! CHURCH ANNOUNCEMENTS Thanksgiving Offering: The total money raised with the thanksgiving offering was $18,935. Sunday School: (3 year olds-5th grade) We will be starting Christmas program practice immediately following the morning service; no Sunday school classes (for those ages) for the next 3 Sunday mornings. If teachers would be willing to stay and help with practice, that would be greatly appreciated! Also, we will be practicing a little longer, so plan on picking your kids up at 11:45am instead of 11:30am. The Christmas program is on December 16th at 5pm. GEMS: GEMS will have their Christmas party Monday, December 3, 6:45-8:30 pm at Hope CRC. Girls are encouraged to were festive holiday clothing. We will be decorating cookies, making a craft and making cards. Donations: Do you have extra canning rings you would like to get rid of? GEMS is doing a project during their December meeting that will turn those canning rings into ornaments. A box has been placed in the back of church for your canning rings.
4 The Circle of Hope: will meet on Wednesday at 2pm. Try to finish lesson one. Eileen will serve. Youth Group: We will meet on Wednesday, December 5 at 7:00pm. We will have a lesson and make care packages for our college students. Lunch: Bailey, Breanna Drink: Jacob, Elijah Justice For All: On Monday, December 4 all JFA volunteers are invited to a complimentary dinner at 12:00 Noon. On Thursday, December 6 we will be sorting clothes at JFA. Notify Joan or Wanda if you intend to go. Youth Leaders: If you have ever been a youth leader do you have any curriculum left on your shelf that Minn-I-Kota has provided? If so it s not too late to return so that other churches can benefit from their use. If you have anything please return to Lee De Groot. Get Involved with Love In the Name of Christ: Give: The Love INC Christmas trees are located in Rock Valley at M&H True Value and in Hull at Pizza Ranch. Look for the trees with hearts on them. Please limit spending to $25 and only purchase the item listed on the tag as each child will receive one gift. Gifts should be wrapped and returned to the trees with the original heart tag attached no later than December 4th Volunteer: The Love INC Heart of Christmas Event is Saturday, December 8th from 9:30 11 a.m. in the FLC at Faith Reformed Church in Rock Valley. This is a family event that involves fun activities such as cookie decorating, the Christmas story, hot chocolate, snacks, and the opportunity for families to receive a keepsake Christian Christmas book. The families who participate in the Christmas gift program will also receive their gifts on this day. We need volunteers to help at the various stations with the children and with set up/clean up. Facilitate: Love INC is adding a Parenting Curriculum for January 2019! We are seeking individuals or couples that would be interested in facilitating the class (a faith-based DVD/workbook curriculum). If you have a heart for helping others please call the Love INC office at Love INC will be taking volunteer applications through mid-december. Northwest Iowa Symphony Youth Orchestra, led by Dr. Angela Holt, will present its Fall Concert on Saturday, December 8, at 3:00pm in the Dordt Auditorium. NISYO Consists of talented middle school and high school string players. The concert is free and open to the public. SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS Western Christmas Concert: The Western Christian High School Music Department invites all to Celebrate Christmas by attending the Western Christian High School Choral and Instrumental Christmas Concert on Monday, December 10 at 7:00 p.m. in the Event Center at Western Christian High School. All the choral and instrumental groups at Western Christian will be performing and celebrating in music the birth of our Lord and Savior. Bake sale items to make your Christmas season easier will also be available. Tuition Assistance Opportunity: Hull Christian School is short of its NICSTO (Northwest Iowa Christian Schools Tuition Organization) goal. The money needs to be raised by December 7. This gift helps families with tuition assistance. Donors get a 65% tax credit on your Iowa income tax (C Corporations, S Corporations, LLC and Partnerships are also eligible for STO tax credits.) Prospective donors please contact Randy Ten Pas ( ) at Hull Christian. Dordt College: The Dordt College Campus-Community Band, Chamber Orchestra, and Concert Band will present a concert on Friday, December 7, at 7:30 p.m. in the B.J. Haan. This concert of praise and celebration will feature a variety of music, including Philip Sparke's Mary s Boy Child, arranged to be a Calypso (an Afro-Caribbean style of music), Riu, Riu, Chiu arranged by Marshall Fine (a Spanish Christmas carol depicting the story of the birth of Jesus and the joy of his coming to redeem the world from the guilt of sin), and Of Sailors and Whales: Five Scenes from Melville, a piece for wind band based on Moby Dick featuring English Professor Mary Dengler as narrator. Christmas Jazz Night at Dordt College will take place on December 11 at 7:30 pm and feature the Kantorei and Jazz Band. The Kantorei will be celebrating the birth of Christ in unique and intricate ways with a cappella renditions of Mary Did You Know by Pentatonix, carols like Silent Night and the Coventry Carol approached from a jazz perspective, and songs performed in collaboration with the Jazz Band. The Dordt Jazz Band will be swinging to some holiday classics. December 14 at 7:30 pm the Christmas Choral Concert will feature Bella Voce (women s chorus), Chorale, and Concert Choir - over 160 singers with a wide range of repertoire for Christmas to commemorate the great mystery and wondrous gift of the birth of Christ. Highlights include works by Eric Whitacre, Jake Runestad, John Rutter, Ola Gjeilo, Knut Nystedt, Vijay Singh, and Michael Engelhardt. Stunning acappella compositions will be side by side with several forms of accompaniment that will bring a deep texture to the program, including piano, cello, guitar, flute, harp, percussion, and handbells.
5 HOPE CRC FAMILY PRAISE AND PRAYER CONCERNS We express our sympathy to the family of Grace Dykstra who passed away on Friday, Nov. 23. Her funeral was held this past Monday. Jan Bakker submitted to parathyroid surgery in Sioux Falls on Tuesday, November 27. She is home and recovering. We pray for continued healing. We continue to pray for comfort and peace for Wilma Heynen. We also pray for her husband, Bill, and the entire Heynen family. Cruise De Groot continues his deployment to the Middle East. Cruise s address has changed, and his parents will provide his address if you d like to send him a note. You may also message him through Facebook. Please pray for his safety and encouragement. We remember our members who reside in care facilities: Marv Boon at Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City and Evelyn Dykstra in Byron Center Manor in Byron Center, MI. We also remember those who reside at home but aren t able to join us from week to week. We also pray for their families as they support them. FIRST CRC FAMILY PRAISE AND PRAYER CONCERNS We Duane Vande Griend continues with his regular cancer therapy. Pray for better health. Also remember Duane s father, Ed Vande Griend, a former member in Stanford Hospital in Sioux Falls with cancer. Val Brummel returned home yesterday from Guatemala. Give thanks for the work that she was able to do. Continue to remember Heath & Kayla Stoker in your prayers. Give thanks that Lisa Wiersma s pathology report revealed no cancer. She will begin radiation at a later date. Charles & Darlene Kroese are now residents at Pleasant Acres. Pray for them as they adjust to a new home. Matt De Wild is improving every day. He has been working on his slide board transfers by himself. The plan to come home has changed to December 23. Please continue to pray for more improvement and patience for the extended stay. We extend our Christian sympathy to Joyce Vander Well and Kay and Dave Kroese & family in the passing on Monday of Joyce s son and Kay s brother, David Wynia, of Muskegon, Michigan. May God comfort them in their sorrow. Continue to remember Belle Draayer in her ongoing challenges in life. Continue to remember Esther Rozeboom in your prayers as she has a lot of pain due to a compression fracture in her back which cannot be treated with medication or surgery. Pray for relief from the pain and for healing. She appreciates phone calls and visits.
