Hosanna to the King! But then events quickly turn as what began looking like a coronation for Jesus becomes his crucifixion. Holy Thursday March 28 th 7:30 At Jesus Last Supper, he tells his disciples that one of them will betray him. Our service this evening will feature a re-enactment of the Last Supper based on DaVinci s painting of the same name. Each disciple will share his reaction to Jesus. Holy Communion will be served by the disciples to the congregation. Good Friday March 29 th 12:00 OOMA LOCATION The Community Good Friday Service will offer people the opportunity to recall the crucifixion of Jesus with brithers and sisters from other area churches. Good Friday March 29 th 7:30 LOUMC Darkness came when they crucified Jesus. Our evening service will begin in the darkness, move through the message of the cross, recall the traditional reproaches or laments of Christ, and send us forth with a nail from the cross as a reminder of God s sacrificial love for us revealed in Jesus. Prayer Vigil Friday, March 29 th at noon until Saturday, March 30 th at noon, sign up for a half hour block of time to be in prayer (either in your homes or at the church) as we recall the disciples dread in these days of despair. Pray for new life for yourself, for loved ones and neighbors, for church, community, country, and world, as we long for and anticipate the dawning of Easter. Easter Sunday March 31 st 7:55, 9:15, and 11:00 Christ is risen! Celebrate the power of God s love to triumph over death! Songs of Easter praises and the scents of Easter plants will fill our Sanctuary! Though the tomb is empty, let the temple be full! Bring your friends and neighbors. Share the Good News!

DaVinci Re-Enactment of The Last Supper is BACK!! After a year s hiatus, men of our church will be reenacting the dramatic moment of Jesus Last Supper with his disciples before his arrest, suffering, and death. Jesus tells them that one of them will betray him. They react with shock and disbelief and each ask themselves, Is it I? We will hear each disciple s thoughts and remembrances of their time with Jesus as they search their hearts and question whether they are the one Jesus is predicting will betray him. We will share Holy Communion after the re-enactment as we prepare for events leading up to Good Friday and Easter morning. You are encouraged to come and experience the powerful message of God s love revealed in Jesus Christ on Maundy Thursday, March 28, 7:30 pm. (Child care will be available.)

JOIN US FOR A LENTEN FEAST Friday, March 8, Spaghetti Dinner for Haiti United Methodist Men and United Methodist Women invite you to come to a Fund Raising Spaghetti Dinner to support Pastor Marge and Pat Parkin who are leaving for Jeremie, Haiti, on Monday, March 11 and will return March 18. Please bring one new or gently used t-shirt with some kind of logo on it. These are well received by Haitian people and make nice gifts. We will also be posting a list of medicines and vitamins that are needed to supply the Jeremie clinic, so watch for that in the March newsletter and on the church bulletin board. COME TO THE WELL circle will meet on Thursday, March 14th at 10:00 a.m. in Room #105. Marian Middleton will hostess and Paulie Egner will present the program. Bring a sack lunch. Beverage and dessert will be furnished. Call Marian at to let her know if you will be attending. ONE GREAT HOUR OF SHARING March 17th Lent is the season of repentance, self-examination, and awareness of the hurts of the peoples of the world. One Great Hour of Sharing calls the church to share the goodness of life with those who hurt. United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) brings relief when a catastrophe such as the Haitian earthquake strikes. The offering makes it possible for us to support the administrative costs of UMCOR so 100% of our donations to special projects, like Haiti relief, can go to the project. Once a year you can join United Methodists worldwide by making a special offering to support this humanitarian aid. Please do your part by giving generously. Now, more than ever, the world needs you! We Need Haiti Dresses! Rev. Marge recently acquired a dress pattern for the Jeremy Project in Haiti. If you can sew and would like to help out, the pattern will be available on the bulletin board across from the office. Contact Debbie Schmidt for any questions at Turn dresses into the office. EASTER FOOD BASKETS Don t forget to help our Sunday School children s mission project by bringing in non-perishable food items for our Easter food baskets. Suggestions include any canned or boxed foods like soups, fruits, vegetables, canned meats, pasta and sauces, rice, potatoes, breakfast items, etc. Take your donations to any Sunday School classroom or place in the marked bin in Fellowship Hall. Deadline is 10:00 on Sunday, March 24 th. SCOUTING TRANSFORMS LIVES Our church will be celebrating Scout Sunday this year on March 3rd. During the 9:15 and 11:00 Worship Services, we will be recognizing all scouts, past and present, as well as their leaders. We encourage all scouts to wear their uniforms that morning. We hope you will be there to help our church family show their support for all the scouting programs and the many ways that they help our young people become the very best they can be.
5 MARCH 1, 2013 THE LINK PAGE 5 COMINGS AND GOINGS After 11 years of service to our Church and community, Pastor Marge Munger has announced that she will be retiring as Associate Pastor of the Lake Orion United Methodist Church on June 30, Marge s spirituality and faith example, tireless community outreach, thought-provoking sermons, leadership among Church groups, and ministering to sick, dying and homebound have been a blessing to this Church that will be greatly missed. Pastor Marge and Dennis will be moving to Westerville, Ohio to be close to their son, his wife, and perhaps most important, their granddaughter. LOUMC ANNOUNCES NEW ASSOCIATE PASTOR JOHN BALL AND HIS FAMILY We are also excited to announce that the Detroit Conference Cabinet has appointed Pastor John Ball as our new Associate Pastor. John is currently serving as Associate Pastor for the First United Methodist Church in Brighton where his primary duties include community outreach, program development, pastoral care and worship leadership. Prior to this appointment, he served at the Mayville United Methodist Church. John and his wife Cyndi have two children, Braydon and Dillon, ages 11 and 12. After meeting John, all of us on the Staff Parish Relations Committee agreed that he brings energy, new ideas and passions that will help us realize our hopes and dreams for this faith community and build on all of the qualities that make us a foundation of hope, love and care to those we touch. We are especially thrilled about his unique experiences with non-traditional means of bringing disciples to Christ, new and unique formats for worship, and community outreach. John will officially begin his ministry with this Church on July 1, 2013 and has already started conversations with Pastor Larry and Marge to kick off the transition process. With this early announcement, we are blessed to have substantial time to make John s move to our Church successful and as trouble free as possible for the Ball family. Of course, the extra time will also allow us to plan a fantastic retirement party for Pastor Marge! We ll keep you informed of needs and events through future bulletin, worship, and Link announcements. Please pray for John, Cyndi, Dillon and Braydon as they begin their journey to our doorstep and also for Pastor Marge and Dennis as they begin transitioning the next thrilling phase of their lives. PRAYING TOGETHER AS A CHURCH One of the ways that members of our congregation observe Holy Week and the Passion of our Christ is through our Good Friday Prayer Vigil, which will begin on Friday, March 29th at noon and continue until noon on Saturday. Please consider devoting a half hour or more in prayer at this holy time. For this Prayer Vigil, we will be focusing on God s gift of salvation, through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We will also be praying for our church family, our community, our nation and our world. There will be signup boards at the church entrances. Just choose a time and sign your name, as well as where you plan to pray (i.e. at church or at home). If you cannot get to the church to signup, just call Faye and Ron Nordquist at and they will do it for you. There will be helpful instructions on the signup boards for those who would like more direction for their prayer time. The church will be locked for your security during the evening and early morning hours, but a key will be made available to you via a lockbox on the door. You can find out the combination by calling the church office before noon on Good Friday.

7 MARCH 1, 2013 THE LINK PAGE 7 STEPHEN MINISTER OF THE MONTH MARCH 2013 CAROL McCORMICK To know Carol McCormick is a blessing. She is warm, compassionate, caring, trustworthy, faith-filled and a wonderful listener. She is everything needed in a Stephen Minister and then some. Carol was first commissioned as a Stephen Minister at LOUMC in After serving for many years she took a break and then rejoined the ministry in 2012 much to the joy of the Stephen Ministry Group. Carol was needed immediately and she began supporting a woman that was dealing with a grief situation. Carol was able to walk with her care receiver until she felt that she was in a better place. Carol s care receiver has expressed on numerous occasions how much she was helped by Carol listening to her and letting her know that she cared about what she was going through. NEW MINISTRY OPPORTUNITY A new ministry is starting up at LOUMC and we are looking for men and women that would be interested in supporting this ministry. The purpose of this ministry is to have volunteers available that would be willing to drive people from church to doctors appointments as needed. Men would drive men to appointments and women would drive women to appointments. This is a great way to help out someone in need. If interested please call Lisa Goyette at , ext Carol was a big help at the Feast of Stephen Dinner held in December. She was one of the angels working behind the scenes in the kitchen to ensure the dinner went off without a hitch. This was very hard work and Carol as always served with that beautiful smile of hers. Carol thank you for all that you do. You love and care for so many. You are loved back for who you are and what a blessing you are to this ministry.
