The sanctuary flowers today are in honor of our parents, Bob and Susan Davis, on their 28 th wedding anniversary By Emily and Erin Davis Pastor's Corner ALove One Another@ Hear the words of Jesus, AA new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.@ (John 13:34) So what does love look like? How do you define love? It=s a word that has been wrongly used, misused, and abused for years. Perhaps we need to look at it through the eyes of a child for deeper understanding. Have you see some of those stories about children=s definitions of love? Some favorites include the insight of a five year old boy who said, ALove is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and they go out together and smell each other.@ A little girl observes, ALove is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day.@ Another little boy observed a definition at his house. He said, ALove is when my Mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK.@ Finally, there was a little eight year old girl who displayed great wisdom when she said, AYou really shouldn=t say >I love you unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget.@ My advice would be to say it often, there is always someone who needs to hear it. Show it more often, it changes hearts and lives. Live it constantly, people will know you belong to Jesus if you do. American Music Jubilee Christmas Show Smithfield, NC Friday, Dec. 12 Cost; $30 We have 15 tickets available. Sign up in the Church office or Sunday School by November 16. =============================================================== Operation Christmas Child FBC has vacancies left to work at the Operation Christmas Child Processing Center in Charlotte on Tuesday, December 2 from 1:00 5:00 pm. We are taking our bus and will leave at approximately 8:30 am that morning and return around 10 pm or so that evening. We will stop for a quick lunch before arriving to work at the center and stop for dinner on the way back home, so those going will need money for those two meals. This is a great opportunity for you to get even more involved with this great program. If interested, please sign up in the church office or contact Diane Thomas. This is open to everyone - youth, adults, anyone over 13. Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes are due to FBC NO LATER THAN SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 23 Again this year, we have the pre-made shoeboxes available. Our children will be having a shoebox packing party again this year, so if you wish to make donations of packing items or monetary donations to purchase packing items, these are welcome. Our College Student of the Week is Katie Scott. Katie is a senior at Longwood University, majoring in Biology and is the daughter of Bryan and Barbara Scott. 4 Leader: Leader: RESPONSIVE READING INCLUSIVITY God of all peoples of the earth, we gather in your presence, aware of the vastness of your world and the intimacy of your concern. We pray for our society, populated by billions of people and filled with thick newspapers full of words that speak too much about division. We pray for the smaller world around us, for the members of our families, for friends who share our concerns, for those who depend on us and on whom we depend. Litany of Remembrance Today we remember our friends and family who have passed from this life to the next this past year: Bill Adams Ken Anderson Vivian Chandler Anderson B. J. Leader: Keep teaching us that your circle is always larger than our perceptions, for we are tempted to get cozy with a few in the living room and ignore the closed doors of our souls. We want to repent of our small vision, to break out of all that confines us on our right and on our left. Transform us to live by your expansive vision. Stand us foursquare in the midst of all that is broken and hurting in our world. Direct our eyes beyond the visible to see your kingdom breaking into our lives. Let us transform gospel words into action, living out the truth that Christ has broken down the dividing walls of all that would hinder our being united in his name. ================================================================== The Cross You are encouraged to take a cross and display it in your yard to tell the world that you are a believer. Their memory is a blessing to us and to our community. Each of these saints worshiped You and knew Your Son, Jesus, the Christ, as their Lord and Savior. Our communal life together is a living legacy of their faithfulness - a witness of their love for Your kingdom and their commitment to this community. Each of these saints touched our lives in a variety of ways. Therefore, we remember them with gratitude and bless their names. As a tribute to them, we vow to live our lives in the light of love, making ourselves available to You, O God, and to family and friends, as we work together for the sake of Your kingdom and this community. In doing so, we rejoice, for we know that our loved ones are where we aspire to be - at home with You in a place where there is no more death or mourning or crying or pain, a place where they are being recreated in body, mind and spirit in Your image, a place where they are soaring on wings like eagles, where they are able to run and not grow weary, where they can walk again and not be faint. Thank You, O God, for these our friends and family whom we remember today and who now live and reign with You in heaven.

5 THANK YOU NOTES: Dear Church Family, Thank you for the beautiful flowers that graced our sanctuary this past Sunday. Dave, Carol, and Family Dear First Baptist Friends, Many thanks for all the prayers, visits, calls, and cards during my hospital stay and recovery at home. Although it has been slow, thankfully, I am continuing to recover from the chain saw injury to my foot. It is great to be a part of a caring and thoughtful church family.
