1 March 2015 Vol. 81 No. 3 Dear Friends: 150 years! What do 150 years mean? In a person they mean over a life span, perhaps 4 generations, my great-grandfather was born 151 years ago. In the life of a community they mean years of growth and change. In the life of a church they mean 54,787 days of Christian witness. 150 years ago in the midst of a Civil War fought to prove no nation could live half free and half slave, fought to prove the soul and body of every man is precious and sacred in the sight of God Trinity Church was born. It was born because men and women recognized the supremacy of God in life and realized the need of meeting together for common worship, to praise God and learn of His wonderful ways. Their ready and eager sacrifice and that of a great host of believers through the past 150 years have made Trinity a place where friends are cherished, faith is strengthened, hope is renewed, youth are challenged; a place where God is known and loved, Christ is honored and served. As I think that for nearly 5 years of that time the leadership of Trinity has been entrusted to me, I am most humbled. May the next 150 years continue to develop devout workers, able leadership, eager witnesses for Christ, that our homes may radiate the joy of Christian love and hope, and Trinity may be a constant moral light in our communities. Rev. Walter R. Mander 3rd (these words were adapted from those first written by Rev. George S. Howe in celebration of Trinity s 100th Anniversary) This month s Tidings Masthead is from 1919.

3 Hello friends! Just when we thought we were going to miss out on most of the winter, Mother Nature threw a curve and hit us hard with ice, snow, and temperatures below freezing for more than a week straight! The good news is that in a little over a month, Spring will be here and temperatures will be in a much more comfortable range. As you re all aware, another thing that is happening in less than a month is our 150 th Anniversary Celebration. Hopefully you all have your tickets to the concert Saturday night, March 14 th and plan to attend the service at 10am March 15 th. We ll have lots of special music that morning and hopefully a special speaker or two will join Pastor Walt in celebrating the history of our church. Our luncheon at Pennsauken Country Club will be a culmination of the celebration! Please call the church office or speak to one of the members of the Anniversary Committee if you need transportation or other assistance to attend the celebration. We ll be glad to help out! We are contemplating having live flowers in the sanctuary for Easter this year. We still need to be sensitive to those who have allergies so we will stay away from Hyacinths and Lilies. We re thinking we could use Tulips, Daffodils, Azaleas, and/or Pansies but if any of these would cause problems to anyone who would like to attend the service, please let me know or another member of the Worship Committee (Elaine McBride or Karen Hoffman) and we will avoid those flowers. As always, I need to thank all the volunteers who help with the service each week. The greeters, ushers, worship leaders, and fellowship hosts all do a wonderful job assisting in the worship service and making Trinity a homey place. I also need to say a special thank you to Brenda Hamilton and Karen Hoffman. They are here every Sunday morning helping to set up the refreshment table, bringing in paper products, changing table cloths as the seasons change, etc. Their help is greatly appreciated! I close with my traditional wish, May God bless us, everyone! Debbie Curcio Worship Committee Chairperson The Morning Bible Study Group will meet on Thursday March 5th at 9:30am. There will be no meeting in April. WST will meet for their monthly breakfast meeting at the Pennsauken Country Club on March 21st at 8:30am. No meeting in April. Another reason to eat more plants! Gut Microbiome The invisible world of bacteria that live in our intestinal tract Promoting healthy gut bacteria is beneficial to health in many ways. Weight control, brain health and immunity are just some of these benefits. To promote healthy gut bacteria: Eat greater amounts of whole plants. If you are able, eat more of the whole plant, not just the soft tasty parts. Expand the variety of the plants that you consume. Your gut microbes thrive on a diversity of fermentable fiber. Not all fiber is the same, so consuming a variety of plants will assure a steady flow for your resident microbes. Track how many different plants you eat in a week shoot for 20-30, or more. Examples: Broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, onions, garlic, beans, Jerusalem artichokes, blueberries, sauerkraut and other fermented vegetables, tempeh and miso. These are some of the best, but there is a wide range of vegetables and fruit out there to choose from. Try new ones! Barbara Wilson, RD

4 April Showers at Collingswood Manor Once again I am asking for your help with the annual April Showers event at the Collingswood Manor to be held on April 14th. Each church that is a member of the Manor Auxiliary is asked to donate personal care items to be given to the residents. All items collected are arranged on tables and residents may choose any items that they need. Photos of last years April Showers are on display on the bulletin board in the Chapel. A list of suggested items you may wish to donate is as follows. A box for your donations is located in the chapel. Any donations will be gratefully appreciated. Karen Hoffman Collingswood Manor Representative A LOOK BACK Suggested Items to Donate: Dish Soap Sponges Paper Towels Handy Wipes Puzzle Books Scotch Tape Note Paper Comb Paper Napkins Kleenex Poly-Grip Q-Tips Large Bar Soap Shampoo Hand Lotion Emery Boards Laundry Soap Shower Cap Pens & Pencils Toothpaste Safety Pins Soft Soap Brush Zip-Lock Sandwich Bags Here are a couple of things from Trinity s 100th year anniversary scrapbook... Many more photos, documents and artifacts from Trinity s past are on display in the chapel.
