Seminar for Living Independently and Safely for Seniors and Care Givers Of Sudbury Sponsored by Town of Sudbury NOVEMBER 5TH 10:00 11:30 AM Hosted by Our Lady of Fatima 160 Concord Road You are all invited to a seminar for seniors and care givers. The speakers will be Police Chief Nix, Fire Chief John Whalen, Bethany Hadvab Town Social Worker and Debra Galloway Director of the Senior Center. They will each be presenting about the many services available to you and your care givers from the Town of Sudbury. Please consider coming there is no charge for attendance. Come join your fellow parishioners. The prayer shawl ministry creates and distributes prayer shawls and lap robes to those who are seriously ill and for people who have lost a loved one. Baby blankets are given at the time of the Baptism. Recipients are parishioners, family and friends who are in need of prayer and caring. All are welcome to be a part of this wonderful ministry. 4 TOPIC: Community Life Q. When we visit our in-laws and go to Mass, they insist on dragging us to a coffee hour. What s up with that? A. Well, one would hope that your in-laws love you and want to show you off to their friends! Actually, many parishes in this country depend on coffee hours as a means to foster and deepen a sense of belonging and welcome in the community. A community that has achieved unity in Christ, hearing the Word and celebrating the Eucharist, will naturally have some people who want to linger a bit. There s a homily to ponder, works of justice to think about, and just the sheer delight of being together for a bit with those who are our companions on life s journey. When we look at the structures of our ancient churches, it is clear that they were always arranged not only for worship, but as public spaces where people could meet one another. This year at the end of the Pope s funeral, one television reporter looked down into the crowded streets of Rome and witnessed an interesting scene. The crowd was slow to disperse. People who had been strangers six hours before were embracing, posing for pictures, trading addresses. Gathered for worship, they had encountered one another across barriers of economics, race, and language. The convivial scene in the Roman street reminded the reporter of Sunday coffee back home. A time to greet one another in Christ, a time to savor the life in community we are all called to, and to surrender our propensity to rush form one thing to another without a breath in between.
