3 3 rd Sunday of Advent A number of years ago, the pastor of a neighboring parish, known simply as the Monsignor (you have to be famous to have just one name!), would often ask people, What did you do for God today? It didn t matter what you had done the day or week before; what mattered was what you did with the present moment. His simple question reminded us that faith is never a done deal, but a deal waiting to be done. Advent is a deal waiting to be done. We can make grand plans and be filled with wishful thinking and spiritual thoughts, but good intentions never filled an empty stomach or healed a broken heart. Something always comes up that needs to be done and we end up saying to ourselves, There s always next year. Really? What if there isn t? What would you have wanted to do? This is the year, now is the time, and here is your opportunity. So, do something. Get the family together and decide what you will do. Pray the rosary together. Use an Advent wreath. Volunteer at your parish. Celebrate the sacraments. Buy and wrap gifts for children in need. Please print the names of your deceased loved ones on the slip of paper provided. Make sure that you write flowers in the memo section of your check. CHRISTMAS PAGEANT REHEARSAL Sunday, Dec. 16th 10:45-12:00 Monday, Dec. 17th 5:00pm - 6:00pm Saturday, Dec. 22nd 11:00am - 12:30pm Sunday, Dec. 23rd 10:45 meet in Church basement. Pageant is at 11:30am in Church PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY The prayer shawl ministry creates and distributes prayer shawls and lap robes to those who are seriously ill and for people who have lost a loved one. Baby blankets are given at the time of the Baptism. Recipients are parishioners, family and friends who are in need of prayer and caring. All are welcome to be a part of this wonderful ministry. PARISH CATHOLIC APPEAL COORDINATOR VOLUNTEER Help Wanted - Annually St Anselm participates in the Archdiocese's Catholic Appeal. We are seeking a volunteer to coordinate next year's campaign at our church. The Catholic Appeal is an annual plea for funds to support ministries, vocations, social services, and needy parishes as well as other Archdiocesan activities. St Anselm has a long history of responding in a leadership way to the campaign. We are looking for a volunteer to coordinate this year's activities. The coordinator is asked to attend a two hour training session and lead the Campaign kick off and in-pew pledge weekends which will be February and March 2-3 next year. If you would like additional information or can help by volunteering please contact the rectory. 5 WINTER CLOTHING DRIVE FOR ST. FRANCIS HOUSE The 10 th grade confirmation class is once again sponsoring a winter clothing drive for St Francis House in Boston. St Francis House provides day shelter and other programs for poor and homeless adults in downtown Boston. Please bring any donations of clothing to St Anselm church and place them in the boxes near the entrances. The boxes will be in place from December 8 until January 6. The items with highest needs: Winter coats (gently used okay) Winter thermals (gently used okay) Sweatshirts and hoodies (gently used okay) Hats, gloves, scarves, and socks (new items only, for these four cases) Thanks in advance from the confirmation class, and from the people of St Francis House. WEEKDAY MASSES IN THE WINTER Please note that if schools in Sudbury or Framingham are cancelled or delayed due to weather there will not be morning Mass on that weekday. PICTURES OF LOVED ONES There is a basket in the front vestibule of the Church with pictures of loved ones from the Mass of remembrance. Please take your picture home with you after mass.
