1 July Exits With One of Our Biggest Events!... VBS High Street UMC is getting ready to transform into HERO CENTRAL! The Children s Discipleship Team is leading VBS this year and we are calling ALL SUPERHEROS to join in the magic! We need people every day to help in various places. Even if you can only commit to a day or two, please consider joining the crew. It is rewarding and it impacts so many children. In the hallway to the Commons is the SUPER HERO GIVING BOARD. We have lists of items needed for our adventures. Please take ½ of the mask and the other ½ of the mask needs your signature, then placed in the box provided on the window sill. The children who attend VBS will be donating the list of items below as their mission project to be donated to the Open Hands Free Store. 2 Super Heroes For Christ We believe in an awesome God yet we think we have so little power ourselves. We want to witness, to heal, to serve, to be a peacemaker, and to change the world in accord with God s will; but we feel we are but ordinary people. With the power of the Holy Spirit, we are superheroes for Christ. Come join us for worship and our ongoing conversation about what the Bible says about us being Superheroes for Christ. 3 Thank You! There was an outstanding response to our Family Matters Giving Campaign. We received 67 giving cards, with 56 of them indicating an increase in giving. The total pledged increase in giving for this year is $35,509. This exceeded our expectations, and we are very pleased about and grateful for these results. A significant number of members gave their increase as a one-time extra gift along with their card. As a result, we have already collected over $11,000 in Family Matters Giving. With this additional income, we project that the budget we passed at the start of the year is now balanced and is no longer a deficit budget. Of course, we need to remind ourselves that it is balanced because we are only paying 50% of our apportionments. We are still committed to reassessing our finances late in the year to determine if we can pay more of our apportionments. Once again, thanks to everyone. High Street is hosting the Miami Valley District s Creative Worship Workshop on Saturday, July 22, from 9:00 4:30pm. You can spend the day with creative specialist, author and worship coach Jason Moore in an event designed for churches of all sizes, budgets and means. Best experienced as a team, The Creative Worship Conference and Resource Retreat is filled with ideas that any church can implement. The first half of the day will be learning new methodologies for worship design and the second half will be hands-on around tables engaged in the design process. From the design sessions (and your brainstorming) Jason will create graphics, videos, loops, print, written pieces and more that will be available to your church for the Advent Season. Price of the resources and lunch is included in the $10/person registration fee. If this workshop interests you and you want to attend just contact Marcia in the office and she will register you! Brenda Tovar, one of our reliable nursery caregivers is too busy completing college while working and she has to leave us. We wish her the best and thank her for her dedication to our very young children. Our 9:30 am Adult Sunday School is being held in the Library section of the Commons. We are reading the Bible in chronological order. Please join the group anytime within the hour with a Bible, your coffee and snack. It is very casual. Be light in the darkness As fireworks brighten the sky with light and color, the church is called to display the Gospel s unique light in a dark world. Our word dynamite and the Greek word for power as in, You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you (Acts 1:8) share a root. Through God s power in us, we share Jesus dynamically! with others. "If you enjoy serving at Rainbow Table in February, you will have even more fun in July. High Street volunteers will be serving on all four Tuesdays in July (including July 4), so please sign up now to help feed the hungry. Sign-up sheets are in the Commons hallway, or you may call the church office to have your name added to the list. Thanks for assisting with this ministry to our community. 230 E. 4 MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) is coming this fall to High Street! MOPS is on a mission to celebrate motherhood, and High Street is excited to begin this new ministry in Springfield! MOPS is an international organization that encourages and equips moms of young children to realize their potential as mothers, women and leaders, in relationship with Jesus, and in partnership with the local church. We want to build a circle of women who love each other like family, because raising humans is beautiful and hard, and having each other to lean on is life-giving. That s why we are connecting moms in Springfield who will meet together to laugh, cry, love and embrace the journey of being a mom - together. The new High Street MOPS Group will meet on the 2nd & 4th Wednesdays of every month September through May from 9:30 to 11:30 am. But we can t do it without your help! Here are some ways you can get involved with this new ministry: Mentor Mom - A mentor mom is someone who is further along on her parenting journey, and is willing to bring perspective on mothering, womanhood and relationships. Through teaching and one-on-one relationships, you communicate with vulnerability and honesty, and provide a foundation for acceptance and trust. You support mothers of young children, not because you have all the answers, but because you know that s what Jesus would be doing. A Mentor Mom: Attends the MOPS meetings Is a paying Mentor Mom member of MOPS Int'l (MOPS Int'l mentor dues are $33.95 for 1 year) Will get a membership kit with mentor guidebook on this year s theme Shows love, understanding, encouragement, wisdom, and spiritual guidance to the MOPS moms MOPS Kids Childcare Worker - Moms can relax and enjoy the MOPS meetings if they know the MOPS Kids program is caring for their children in the best possible way. A curriculum with songs, videos, and lesson plans for each age group is provided by MOPS Int'l. A MOPS Kids Childcare Worker: Enjoys caring for babies and/or preschool age kids and helps provide a loving, safe, educational space Uses the provided curriculum and a gentle approach to share Jesus love with each child Sponsor a Mom - To be a member of High Street MOPS, a mom must be a member of MOPS Int'l. But we don t want financial burden to stop any mom from being able to walk through our doors and be part of the group. To Sponsor a Mom, you pay the membership dues for her. MOPS Int'l membership dues are $31.95 for 1 year + High Street MOPS local dues are $40 for 1 year = Total dues for 1 mom for 1 year are $71.95 Prayer Partner - One of the most important gifts a young mom can receive is prayer. Praying specifically for a mom and her family and children is so powerful! You will be assigned a mom to pray for on a regular basis. You can also send her encouraging notes and make the connection go further! If you are interested in any of the above opportunities, please contact Susan Roosen at (Home) or (Cell) or slroosen13@gmail.com. Thanks for considering how you can help us reach moms, children, and young families! Check out next month s newsletter for more on this year s theme - Free Indeed! 4 C e l e b r a t e N u r t u r e S e r v e

As we move to a new geographic area and on to a new chapter in our lives, we want to express our gratitude to the High Street UMC community. We thank you for your friendship and Christian fellowship, for opportunities to learn and grow spiritually, and for opportunities to serve the congregation and community.
