You are right in saying, He is One and there is no other than he. And when Jesus saw that he answered with understanding, he said to him, You are not far from the kingdom of God. - Mark 12:32, 34ab You are not far from the kingdom of God. What does it mean to be close to God s kingdom? In today s Gospel, Jesus is in a dialogue with teachers of the law. They know well the Law of Moses, with its complex codes, expectations, and punishments. What will Jesus say? You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength You shall love your neighbor as yourself. Jesus effortlessly distills all the books of law into two commands. The simplicity of the Gospel message doesn t mean it s easy to follow. Far from it! The simplicity of the Gospel indicates its totality. Anything that requires the passions of our heart, the choice of our soul, the reason in our mind, or the strength of our body all of this ought to be animated by love. As you can imagine, that means pretty much everything! The love of God and love of neighbor is meant to flow into our entire lives. The Gospel can appear complicated because life is complicated. Not every outcast is easy to love. We lack the knowledge or compassion to heal everyone who suffers. Personal sacrifice is not always noticed or valued. In the face of the unknown, fear can be easier than faith. Life s circumstances can seem like obstacles to God s love, not opportunities. And yet Jesus command still stands. As you reflect this week, examine those areas where it s easy to love. Thank God for them! But take some time to consider the people and circumstances that challenge you. Ask God to show you what it means to love there. How is He inviting you to enlarge your heart, strengthen your soul, The KC Ladies Auxiliary will host their Annual Bakery sale consisting of Fruit Cakes, Cookies, and Heavenly Hash Rings on November 10 and 11, after each Mass. PRAYER TO OUR LADY OF PROMPT SUCCOR Please pray daily during this hurricane season. Our Father in heaven, through the powerful intercession of Our Lady of Prompt Succor, spare us from all harm during this hurricane season and protect us and our homes from all disasters of nature. The purpose of this group is to build a community of love, support, feelings of acceptance and awareness within our community. Our first meeting brought out 8 Angels Guardians. 6 November 4, st Sunday in Ordinary Time Page 6 PRAYER BLANKET MINISTRY Please Pray for these Blankets for the Needs of All Who Receive Them! Your Prayers often bring Miracles! At all the Masses this weekend, the celebrant blesses special blankets, which were made by volunteers and laid over the altar rail. Then at the end of all of the Masses, the congregation is invited to pray over the blankets as they leave the church. This is your first opportunity to help. Please come up to the altar rail after Mass and say a special prayer for the ill who will receive the blankets. A blanket and a special prayer card will then be given to parishioners who request them. The blanket is for anyone in need of prayer. They do not have to be physically or mentally ill. Next opportunity: think about someone who is in need of prayer and request a Prayer Blanket! We are grateful that this ministry has been sustained by donations of time, talent, and materials. There are more opportunities. If you want to donate your time and talent to make blankets but don't have the material, we can provide that for you. If you have material but don't sew, we welcome your material donation. In other words, anyone can get involved in this ministry! St. Dominic Parish Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Chapel Why Eucharistic Adoration? "Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration with exposition needs a great push. People ask me: 'What will convert America and save the world?' My answer is prayer. Humanae Vitae 50 Years Later: History of Dissent and Defense Mass on Thanksgiving Day will be at 9:00 AM. Thanksgiving Day Bread Exchange! As your Family attends the 9 a.m. Mass on Thanksgiving Day please bring dinner bread to exchange with another family. The bread will be placed on tables in the front of the sanctuary and blessed during Mass. At the end of Mass, each family will take dinner bread brought by another family. Please add a note of Blessing to your dinner bread! GOT ANY EXTRA 2019 CALENDARS? The Book Club is sponsoring a drive to collect 2019 calendars for distribution by Second Harvest to their low-income clients. Calendars can be expensive, but many charities and businesses give them away. So put your unwanted 2019 appointment books or wall calendars to good use.
