Journey with Jesus to the foot of the Cross so that you too may say, along with the faithful centurion, Those preceding him as well as those following kept crying out: Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the kingdom of our father David that is to come! Hosanna in the highest! Mark 11:9-10 Our humanity bleeds through today s Gospel passages in more ways than one. We see both elation and fall, hope in the midst of the darker sides of our natures. If we allow it, these Gospels hold a mirror to our own fickle hearts. The crowds cry Hosanna and the Apostles profess allegiance unto death. In a manner of days even hours Jesus is betrayed, abandoned, denied, condemned, tortured, and executed. As God, he could have stopped this horrific narrative from unfolding, but he doesn t. He allows free will to play itself out. There are nearly two millennia between this spectacle and us. We can stand safely removed, if we choose. But Lent invites us to return to this story. Lent invites us to find ourselves in the people we encounter there. Are we the repentant woman at Bethany? Are we naysayers of such lavish piety? Have we acted in a way that betrays those we love or denies what we know to be good and true? Have we fallen asleep in our faith? Have we unfairly accused others of a crime or immorality we imagine, though perhaps they didn t commit? Do we help others carry their burdens? Do we stand in solidarity with those who suffer? Do we care for the dying? This week, take up today s Gospel again. Look carefully at the Passion narrative and sit Good Friday - Holy Land Collection Through the Good Friday Collection, we stand in solidarity with the Church in the Holy Land as a witness of peace. Christians, along with all of the clergy and religious who serve in the Holy Land, will deeply appreciate our prayers and financial help. If you would like to donate to our Easter decorations, please use the Easter flowers envelope that was in your packet or pick up an envelope in the vestibule of church. Place the name of the person you wish to be remembered on the envelope. A Mass will be celebrated for all who participate. Our next meeting for Women of Saints Martha and Mary (WOMM) will be on TUESDAY, MARCH 27, 7:00 PM at 6330 VICKSBURG STREET (the little house directly behind Chase Bank). We will be discussing Reconciliation and how it relates to Lent. We invite all women of the parish to join us! As we near the close of this Lenten season, the perfect way to make the events of the Passion of our Lord come alive is to watch our middle school students re-enact the Stations of the Cross. Tom Condon at On Holy Thursday (March 29), at our Mass celebrating the Lord s Last Supper, we invite you to bring gifts for the poor as we did last year. The Offertory will be a procession in which you may present a gift for the poor. Your gift may be of a monetary nature, or it may be canned goods or other imperishable foods; clothing or toiletries. The entire collection will be donated to the Rebuild Center on Tulane Avenue which Sr. Vera and her sisters manage. Please do not park in the Chase Bank parking lot. Your car may be towed at your expense. Our school yard will be open for parking for Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday Services.
