And we have a bumper crop this year. And as you may have been bombarded with countless s and phone blasts, this was truly a sacrifice of your time and talent. Thank you one and all for getting our council through this very busy time! What have we done for the past couple of months? First degree ceremony, two donut Sundays, two days of Tootsie Roll drives, three chicken dinners, and ten days of Renn Fair. Some of you even supported the 4 th Degree s Patriot Day Run. Why do we do all these events, anyway? Many of you will say for charity, the principle of our 1st Degree. We are all Catholic men, and charity is critical to our faith. You may already be familiar with Matthew 25: 31-46, which is the parable about the sheep and goats, but there are many other places in scripture that address charity. St James tells us that charity is critical to our faith: What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister has nothing to wear and has no food for the day, and one of you says to them, Go in peace, keep warm, and eat well, but you do not give them the necessities of the body, what good is it? So also faith of itself, if it does not have works, is dead. - James 2: St. Paul teaches us to be cheerful givers and leads us down the path to righteousness: Consider this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each must do as already determined, without sadness or compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. Moreover, God is able to make every grace abundant for you, so that in all things, always having all you need, you may have an abundance for every good work. As it is written: He scatters abroad, he gives to the poor; his righteousness endures forever. The one who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed and increase the harvest of your righteousness. 2 SOCIAL HALL/KITCHEN CLEANING Bob Pohl is still leading the cleaning at St. Patrick s social hall every Tuesday at 9 am from now until it is clean. Anybody who would like to scrub the kitchen can come to the social hall and help out for a max of a few hours, though any amount of help would be appreciated. HELP WANTED/NEEDED Our Keep Christ in Christmas and He is Risen magnet program could use the support of someone that has experience in marketing. We need a fresh look at what we are doing and ways to improve this effort. Please contact Tom Larouere, Magnet Chairman, at or toml303@charter.net if you could help us with this effort. TOOTSIE ROLL DRIVE Bill Boedeker chaired the handing out of tootsie rolls on Friday, October 6 and Saturday, October 7 from 10 AM to 6 PM (twohour shifts) at Wentzville Walmart and Dierberg s and from 2 PM to 6 PM (four-hour shifts) at the corner of Linn and Pearce. All were welcome to help: wives, children, grandchildren, friends, etc... More info should be presented at the council meeting. RENAISSANCE FAIRE Joe Young and Lloyd Gholson lead this event where we served beer and wine from five pubs, which began on September 16 and ended on October 15. Family members (21 and older) could also help. We struggled with manpower, yet had records in till and tips taken in. The Knights pub was the biggest growth. 2

4 CHICKEN DINNER We had another chicken dinner on Friday, October 13. We served less than 500 people and struggled with manpower for dining room, however, we didn t run out of food. Our last chicken dinner of the year is Friday, November TH SUNDAY ROSARY/MASS We have two more 5 th Sundays this year: Sunday, October 29 th and Sunday, December 31. The officers have decided that 5 th Sunday is not just for the Knights, but for the entire parish, so anybody seated anywhere inside church can say the rosary with us. We are looking for Knights to lead the rosary. Please be in the church at 8:30 AM so the rosary can be started on time. HEARING LOOP DEMONSTRATION We ve had the first reading for council voting approval of $3000 to grow the church s hearing assist technology. The hearing loop technology is fairly new and allows the hearing-impaired to hear whatever is being transmitted through the sound system and made audible in the users hearing aid. There are six devices that are planned to be purchased for Mass-goers to use, and also a transmitter added to the social hall, so the same benefit can be used in the hall, as in the church. We often have several of our council members who support this important event. KofC Patriot Day Run MISSION: Heroes are not just born into their roles as we see on TV, heroes are selected, trained, and create themselves through their gifts of service, sacrifice of self, and determination to be the best and excel. We must honor our HEROES especially those who have been injured or even given the largest sacrifice of their lives to serve our communities and our country. Join us to show a small token of gratitude for their work as heroes! RUN with their passion, conviction and honor pushing you to the finish line! 5

8 BLAST FROM THE PAST The following excerpts were taken from the October 2006 newsletter: Tootsie Roll Drive Thanks to Chairman Bill Boedeker and the Brother Knights that turned out for the Tootsie Roll Drive. We had more places to cover this year and Bill and his committee did a fine job on short notice to get the job done. Thanks to all!!! Pearce Blvd Clean-up Our next clean-up day is planned for Sat. October 28, Meet for breakfast at Pete s at 8:30 AM, and for those not having breakfast at Pete s, make it 9:00 AM. A loyal group of several Brother Knights have been carrying the load of this worthy task and now is the time for more helping hands to join them in this community betterment service. A couple of hours on one Saturday a month is all that is needed. The safety vests and pickup sticks used for cleanup workers are now stored at Pete s Drive-in. This will make it much easier for workers to be prepared and not have to go looking for them. Pirate Fest Update This years Festival is history and from early reports it looks like it was a good one for the council. Profits are estimated to be about $3,466. Thanks to Chairman Chuck Hunsel for another great effort to bring our part of the festival together. A special thanks to Dan Breen and Jan Holzman for their part in scheduling workers and keeping things running at the festival and last but not least a thanks to those volunteers who responded to the call for help. Defibrillator Purchase A first reading and vote of approval for spending up to $2,000 to purchase a defibrillator was made at the monthly meeting on September 25, This has been a subject of discussion for the past year or two and after the officers were given a demonstration and cost estimate it was proposed to proceed with a purchase if the membership approved and Father Pat agreed. A final vote will be taken at the next meeting on October 24, The unit would be kept handy in the church and a number of persons trained to use it. 8

It may be as simple as a phone call to chat with you for a few minutes. It could be a visit to see you in person. It also could be a ride to bring you to a council meeting/event or just take you out for lunch.
