1 JUNE 2017 Bella Vista Baptist Church Phone: (479) Prayer Ministry: (479) June 11 Something to Think & Pray About by Pastor Mike McCauley Almost 15 years ago now, a local pastor wrote an article for the Weekly Vista. In it he included this poignant statement from H. Norman Wright, Overcoming negative feelings, whether they come from childhood or a current situation, takes time and effort, but change is possible. The main step you must take in the process is to accept what God believes about you. He then went on to share this paraphrase of I Corinthians 13: Because God loves me, He is slow to lose patience with me. Because God loves me, He takes the circumstances of my life and uses them in constructive ways for my growth. Because God loves me, He has no need to impress me with how great or powerful He is because He is God. Nor does He belittle me as His child in order to show how important He is. is for me. He wants to see me mature and develop in His love. does not send down His wrath on every little mistake I make, of which there are many. does not keep score of all my sins and then beat me over the head with them whenever He gets the chance. is deeply grieved when I do not walk in the ways that please Him, because He sees that as evidence I don t trust Him and love Him as I should. rejoices when I experience His power and strength, and stand up under the pressure of life for His Name s sake. keeps working patiently with me, even when I feel like giving up. I can t see why He doesn t give up on me, too. keeps on trusting me when at times I don t even trust myself. never says there is no hope for me. Rather, He patiently works with me, loves me and disciplines me in such a way that it is hard for me to understand the depth of His concern for me. never forsakes me, even though many of my friends might. If we take the time to allow God to speak His truth over us and into our lives as we read His Word and hear it taught, it will have its intended effect on our lives. When we intentionally do this daily, it won t be long until His Word begins molding and shaping our thoughts, values and priorities. Who or what are you allowing to shape your thinking? It s Something To Think About Michael McCauley

5 Phone: (479) Fax: (479) Music News School s out and the weather is getting warmer. Time for vacation? Yes, it s true that many will be travelling to various locations with friends and family to take a little time off in the coming month. I always miss you when you are gone, and I pray that you have safe travels. When you are here, please remember to stay involved in worship and rehearsals. You are needed to make things go smoothly. Page 5 by Pastor Robert McGee VBS is here, June 26 th 30 th. I know Nancy could always use more help. If you can help contact her ASAP. God Bless, Robert 9 However, as it is written: What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived the things God has prepared for those who love him 10 these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. 1 Corinthian 2:9 NIV Young at Heart Senior I want to share with you a letter I received about our Ark trip. Exploring the three huge decks of the ark, we saw how the amazing task of preserving all species of God s creation was possible. The third deck featured scientific displays citing evidence that showed how the flood and following catastrophic events shaped the earth as we know it today. While faith does not demand proof, it is reassuring to us as Christians that true science supports, not contradicts, Biblical teachings. The Creation museum provided a narrated walk through displays showing the consequences of Adam s sin. As we left Adam s family, we walked through a hall whose walls were covered with a decoupage of clippings from newspapers, magazines, etc. depicting the effect of sin in our modern world. It was a sad commentary of what we have done to the perfect world God created for us. I am glad everyone that went on the trip had a good experience. I highly recommend a visit if you are ever out that way. Senior Fun Day is suspended until further notice. I am working on something that will get more of us involved in fellowship. Movie night will be Friday, June 23 rd at 6:30pm. Blessings, Robert The movie for June will be What If Starring Kevin Sorbo, Kristy Swanson, Debby Ryan and John Ratzenberger. About a man who gets a second chance to find his true purpose in life.

6 Page 6 Bella Vista Baptist Church For some of our women our trip to Tommy House was their first experience in knowing about this ministry. While working at the Boys Ranch in Harrison, Tommy Jones and his wife had the vision and desire to provide a safe house in West Fork for children in crisis. This is one of several outreach ministries of our Arkansas Baptist Children s Homes. The advantage over like government sponsored facilities is that our house parents can teach about God and there is no calendar dead-line on their stay. Tommy s House provides a home-like environment where the children can stay until a safe home is found for them. Their challenge is to remain prepared to receive children of ages 4-8 on a moment s notice. Currently there is a 14 year old girl, who with her brother, has been here for over a year. She is doing well in school and is assured that if she remains here and qualifies academically, she can attend one of our Baptist Colleges with tuition paid. Pray for our WOM as we seek new insight as to how we can be an effective part of out mission work here and around the world. THREADS of LOVE We are working on blankets, tote bags to send to the Northwest Arkansas Children s Center, and hats and other items for the Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes. Please join us if you would like to help, or have ideas for other projects for our group. Wednesday June 28th at 9:30am, Room 142. Falls Creek Camp Cooking Day Saturday, June 17, the women s ministry will be preparing meals for the youth to take to Falls Creek. If you would like to help please join us from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm in Grace Hall kitchen. Join us on Sunday, June 11th from 2pm-4:30pm, in Fellowship Hall. This is a drop-in event come for all or part of the time. For information, contact Joan Abrams All ages are welcome!

7 Phone: (479) Fax: (479) Thank You Church During Russ hospitalization and time in hospice, there were so many of you who poured out your deepest concern for us. My family and I are so grateful for each one of you. For each whispered prayer, for each expression of love whether a card or gift, for each encouraging word, I say thank you from the bottom of my heart. You are a body of believers who are willing to go to the war room on behalf of others and it is so encouraging to be on the receiving end of those prayers. We are so blessed to have Pastor Mike and his leadership for our church body; he lives the words he preaches as he equips us for daily living. To God be the glory! ~Louise Bonacker Page 7 Thank you all so much for all the prayers and letters. They have really meant a lot to Matthew. He had his kidney surgery on and his cancer was Stage I and did not spread. They caught this really early which is a wonderful blessing. It was so thoughtful of you all to take the time to pray for him. Thank you, Matthew & Stephanie Pittman (Jan King s cousins) VBS TRAINING DAY We will have a training day June 11th to prepare workers for the upcoming VBS. Meet after second service, 12:15-1:30 pm in Fellowship Hall. Lunch provided. Anyone interested in helping with VBS is welcome. Also, if you would like to help with items needed for VBS, there are donation cards at the display in Grace Hall. Non-perishable items need to be returned by June 16th, perishable items need to be brought in June 26th! Music Ministry Get Together Friday, June 9th, from 5pm till dark. Tanyard Creek Pavilion. Bring chairs and a covered dish. Bella Vista Baptist is responsible for Meals on Wheels in June.
