1 November 2018 Newsletter This fall Pastor Pat will offer an adult class during Sunday School from November 18 to December 9 at 10 AM in the Loyal Ladies Classroom. The name of the class is Baptized We Live: Lutheranism as a way of life. We will explore a vision of the Lutheran faith as a way of teaching, worshiping, and living. We will cover topics like the liturgy, the Eucharist, and Lutheran theology and history along with other topics. Holiday Hams and Turkeys for Mission Lexington Nurture and Outreach is seeking donations to purchase turkeys and hams to donate to Mission Lexington during the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holiday periods. Please prayerfully consider donating $20.00 toward the purchase of hams and turkeys. Write a check to St. Stephen s and in the remarks section of your check, please mark it for ham and turkey purchase and place it in the offering plate. We will make a ham and turkey purchase close to Thanksgiving and another purchase closer to Christmas. Thank you for your prayerful consideration. Point of Contact: Ron Redd: Rredd7848@gmail.com. Christmas for the Military Nurture and Outreach Committee will again collect donations for the Military Care Packages from November 11th to December 2 nd to be mailed for Christmas. Please put items in the container by the Men s Sunday School room. When you do your weekly shopping, refer to the list of snack foods and personal health items that will appear in the Sunday Bulletins during the month of November. All members of the military appreciate what you do for them during the Christmas season. If you wish, a Christmas Greeting is always appreciated with your donation. There continues to be many men and women serving overseas. If you have a family member or a friend serving our country overseas, just call Dorothy or Wendell Christine at with their name and address to receive a Care Package.

2 Our Journey of Renewal St. Stephen s has a storied history of 188 years of mission and ministry that has made a difference in the town of Lexington and beyond. Over these 188 years there have been many changes. There have been four different church buildings, not to mention other structural additions to the campus. Membership numbers have ebbed and flowed. Programs have come and gone - always changing for the sake of sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ most effectively for the membership and those outside the walls of this great congregation. Over all these years St. Stephen s has lived into the words of our denominational founder, Martin Luther, who said that the church should constantly be in a state of reform or renewal. As we look forward to 2019, our call for reform and renewal is no different, and we look forward to sharing our vision for the upcoming year through a campaign entitled Our Journey of Renewal. Our focus will be three-fold: to grow our worldwide support of the gospel through helping to fund Young Adults in Global Mission, a Long-term Missionary Family, and our own Lutheran Adults in Mission (LAIM) Group. to sustain the excellence of our ministry through an additional Pastor who will focus on visitation and the welcoming and support of new members. AND to renew the face of our sanctuary - it is a place that we must care for and maintain so that God can continue to give and sustain life inside and outside its walls far into the future. Want to learn more? We will be having a congregational celebration on Sunday, November 11 th with worship services in the gym and a special presentation during the Sunday School hour. We hope that you will come and be a part of this special occasion as we listen to, learn about, pray for, and invest in these new ministry opportunities in The future has never been brighter at St. Stephen s! With the growth of our congregation, the influx of new members, the activity and faithfulness of our established members, our ever increasing programs and ministry opportunities, our expanded importance in outreach to our community and beyond, the stability of our leadership, and with the power of the Holy Spirit as our energizer and guide, our congregation can expect to faithfully continue to be people of Christ making a difference. And as we celebrate this Journey together, we understand that we have only gotten this far through God s guidance and grace. We are thankful for God s blessings upon us, for giving us generous hearts to support the missions and ministries of St. Stephen s, and for empowering us further in Christ s work in our church, community, and beyond. For all these blessings we proclaim, Thanks be to God! We thank God for all of you! And we look forward to Our Journey of Renewal in 2019! In Christ, Your St. Stephen s Pastors and Staff

3 Lutheran Men Committee of 100 The Lutheran Men Committee of 100 is composed of members who contribute (or someone contributes in their memory or honor) a special $ in a given year. Make a check to L.M. Committee of 100, and give it to Murray Price or Ron Redd through the offering plate, in person, or mail to them or Kevin Wicker and they will handle the details. Thank you: I want to thank my St. Stephen's family and friends for the prayers, cards, s, and phone calls during my recent surgery and the continuing recovery process. You all are a true blessing. Ron Redd Did you know there are angels in our congregation and they have names. They arrived at our house on September 9 at 2:30 in the afternoon, with loads of equipment. They began work immediately: cutting grass, weed eating, edging, blowing. If that wasn't enough, they also pulled weeds in the flower beds. They were finished in 1 1/2 hours and gone - no breaks! It was 95 degrees that day. There were 7 of them: Ike, Cooper, Lucas Reynolds, David and Stanette Brown, Janette Shealy, and Pastor Jason. They did a beautiful job and we are so grateful for the miracle they wrought. We don't know what we did to deserve this but we are truly thankful to them and the church. Bobby and Linda Pittman
