Math for Christians Little Zachary was doing very badly in math. His parents had tried everything: tutors, mentors, flash cards, apps, and more; in short, everything they could think of.

2 Math for Christians Little Zachary was doing very badly in math. His parents had tried everything: tutors, mentors, flash cards, apps, and more; in short, everything they could think of. Finally, in a last ditch effort, they enrolled Zachary in the local Catholic school. After the first day, little Zachary came home with a very serious look on his face. He didn t even kiss his mother hello. Instead, he went straight to his room and started studying. Books and papers were spread out all over the room and little Zachary was hard at work. His mother was amazed. She called him down to dinner, and to her shock, the minute he was done, he marched back to his room without a word, and in no time, he was back hitting the books as hard as before. This went on for some time, day after day, while the mother tried to understand what made all the difference. Finally, little Zachary brought home his report card. He quietly laid it on the table, went up to his room and hit the books. With great trepidation, his mom looked at it and to her great surprise, little Zachary got an A in math. She could no longer hold her curiosity. She went to his room and said, Son, what was it? Was it the nuns? Little Zachary looked at her and shook his head, No. Well then, she replied, Was it the books, the discipline, the structure, the uniforms? WHAT WAS IT? Little Zachary looked at her and said, Well, on the first day of school when I saw that guy nailed to the plus sign, I knew they weren t fooling around. God Math: A cross is turned into a plus sign for here and for eternity. It defies all sorts of human logic. But here s how it works: you give money to the church or to someone in need, even though you don t really have it to give. You make a sacrifice. God then does a miraculous thing: since you ve done his business, He takes care of yours. You find that your own need is satisfied, sometimes in a surprising way. 2 ATTENTION! Concerning our Wednesday Dinner and Programming. Our last Wednesday night Dinner and programming for the ADULTS will be April 1. We will have a Seder meal with Holy Communion. Wednesday dinner and programming will return in the fall after a summer break. Wednesday nights for the CHILDREN will continue until May 13. Dinner will remain at 5:30 p.m. followed by programming. Also, the Children s Bell Choir will continue to meet at 6:15 p.m. After May 13, the dinner and programming for the children will take a break and resume again in the fall. THE CROSSFIRE YOUTH GROUP will continue to meet on Wednesdays even after the adults and children have taken their breaks for the summer. Volunteers Needed The church needs your help. We need another driver on Wednesday nights to pick up the inner-city children, while I continue to pick up the youth. There are three children s stops.

The youth are going to lead the Bridge worship service. The youth choir will sing and our graduating seniors will be honored.

3 Volunteers Needed The church needs your help. We need another driver on Wednesday nights to pick up the inner-city children, while I continue to pick up the youth. There are three children s stops. Also, I need a couple of people to rotate picking up a couple of our youth on Sunday mornings. I would really appreciate the help. Thanks, Rev. Brenda Dowell Youth Sunday will be May 3. The youth are going to lead the Bridge worship service. The youth choir will sing and our graduating seniors will be honored. Do not miss this special service as we show our youth support and how much we appreciate them. They will also be preaching. Anne Frank summed it up this way: No one has ever become poor by giving. Why? It could be that being generous with our finances allows us to be rich in faith. The more we see God Math in our own lives, the more confident we become that God really will meet all of our needs. Besides all that, giving a regular tithe demonstrates to God that we consider him more important than we consider money. It keeps us from allowing money to become an idol in our lives. Well, the fact is our church is experiencing a financial crisis. The budget that meets planned programs and ministries, operational expenses, and staff compensation is woefully underfunded. There will be a congregational conversation regarding our situation following the Bridge service on April 12. Your checks and cash directed to the budget are sorely needed, but here s the thing - God doesn t just want our money - even if it does help fund the church s work. What He really wants is our hearts. He wants us to turn to him and say, Whatever I have, it s yours. Easter is a good time to reflect on our overall giving. Jesus said, I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father (John 14:12 NIV). What more has God done than give? We can never pay back God for his great gifts to us, especially the greatest gift of His Crucified, and Resurrected, Son. One thing we can do, however, is cheerfully start with the tithe, the very least he asks of us. Set aside that 10 percent of regular income, however and whenever it comes, and you ll never miss it. It will show God that you re serious about putting him first and it will continue to give Him opportunities to supply your every need, just as he promised he would. Grace and Peace, Don 18 3

4 Thank You! Rev. Brenda Dowell In Corinthians, we find words about LOVE. Love is patient, Love is kind, Love never fails. I cannot express to everyone how much love I felt from all of you during my stay at the hospital. All the cards, visits, food, s, texts, gifts, flowers, prayers, and kind words meant so much to me. You showered me with so much care. Some of you were even able to make me laugh when I found it so hard to do so. I couldn t ask for a more loving church family. I want you to know, I love you too. Bless you all. Rev. Brenda Dowell Attention Trinity Travelers I am making a request for all those who may find themselves staying at a hotel. Please save/swipe/collect all the little shampoo, conditioner, and soap provisions that are offered there, so that I can take them for use at the men s dormitory at KARM. They are the perfect size to offer to these homeless men who get a meal, shower, and a clean bed each night. There are an average of 185 or so men per night, so please make all the travel plans you can! It is graciously appreciated by the men that receive them. Thanks. We will have a Good Friday Service led by Rev. Brenda Dowell. This special service will be the Friday before Easter at 7 p.m. Don t miss this creative service that calls us to reflect on the cross and Jesus self-giving love for us. Don t miss Easter Sunday where we will celebrate the Resurrection of Christ and what it means to be Easter people. On this Sunday of great joy, there will be a cross outside in front of the church. We are asking that you bring flowers to decorate the cross. The cross will be covered in chicken wire making it easy for you to do this. We want enough flowers brought in to cover it from top to bottom. After the Easter Service, feel free to go outside and take pictures of your family standing in front of the beautiful cross. Due to the winter weather this year and Easter being early in April, flowers may not be in bloom in time for Easter to decorate the cross we are going to place outside. Rev. Brenda Dowell will announce on Sunday whether or not we will be decorating the Easter Cross. 14 7

Bring your items to the church Monday through Thursday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. You will need to get a key in the office to open the last room on the left in the gym.

We welcome all donations everything will be used in some way. KARM will pick up everything not sold. Don t forget there will also be UMM Pancake Breakfast, MEDIC Bus, and Crossfire Youth Car Wash.

These sunny, warm days should get us in the mood for doing all the cleaning up/out that we told ourselves, during all the snow and ice days, needed to be done.
