1 ALL SAINTS SCHOOL Phone Fax REFLECTION Father in heaven, all creation rightly gives you praise, for all life and all holiness come from you. In the plan of your wisdom she who bore the Christ in her womb was raised body and soul in glory to be with him in heaven. May we follow her example in reflecting your holiness and join in her hymn of endless love and praise. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen. PRINCIPAL S REPORT To the wonderful All Saints community, Are you losing sleep trying to watch the amazing endeavours of our Olympians? For me, I enjoy following the Aussies competing in the swimming, cycling in the velodrome and the team sports of basketball, rugby, soccer and hockey. Their commitment, dedication and determination are things that I find very inspiring. THANK YOU!! Over the past two weekends a very generous family from our school has given of their time to build a retaining wall and replace the fencing along Oliver Street. On behalf of the school community thank you to Stacey and Peter Wilson for completing this task for us. Fete Update Thank you to those Stall Coordinators who were able to attend the Fete meeting last night. Thank you to this group of parents who have been working for most of the year to organise a stall for our Fete. As volunteers are called for to help out on the day, parents and guardians please make yourself available to help out where and when you can. Saturday August 20 set-up day: As many helpers as possible are required to help with the set-up of stalls on the Saturday before Fete Day. Setup will begin around 8:30am. If you can come for an hour or 2 that would be great; if you are able 10 August 2016 to assist for a longer period of time thank you very much. Some of the tasks that need to be completed are: positioning hay bales, erecting popup shelters, setting up stalls and unpacking chairs. All Day Ride Armbands: these are now on sale. Please send in your order to purchase your armband which will then give the person unlimited access to the following rides and attractions: Super Slide (for all ages) Cup N Saucer (for all ages) Supa Swing (for all ages) Jungle Safari Jumping Castle (2-7yrs of age) Lasseter s Gold Rush Jumping Castle (8-17yrs of age) Laser Tag (ages 5 to adult) Fit Up Fitness Obstacle Course (for all ages) Access to the Petting Zoo (for all ages) cost of $1 for food Pre-sold armband = $28/person; Bought on the day of the Fete = $35/person or $5/ride All Saint s families only: Purchase 3 or more pre-sold armbands for $23/person (Please complete the order form and return to the Office to purchase your pre-sold All Day Ride Armband.) pboonah@bne.catholic.edu.au Web Attractions that will incur a cost: Pony ride: $2 a ride Dunking Machine: $2 for 3 throws Gotcha Star: Beaut Behaviour Last week students were rewarded with a Gotcha Star when they were caught exhibiting good behaviour during outside time: before school and during both play breaks. Once caught demonstrating beaut behaviour, a student had their name written on the Gotcha Star, which was then placed in a year level box. During Friday s assembly stars were then pulled from the boxes. Winning students were then rewarded with a tuckshop voucher. The more times a student has

2 their name in the box, the greater their chance of receiving the weekly prize. All Saints Has Talent Auditions Throughout this week some of our very talented students are entertaining us during first break as they audition for the All Saints Has Talent final that will open our Fete on Sunday August 21. I wish all students luck as they share their talents with us. Choir performance: Friday August 12 This Friday the school choir will be performing at the annual Catholic Music Festival which will be held at Villanova College. I wish all students luck as they travel into Brisbane to perform the 4 songs that they have been rehearsing for the past few weeks. We will have an opportunity to hear the choir at the Fete. Good luck!! On Tuesday morning, the Student Council did an excellent job in assisting with the Mary MacKillop liturgy. Thank you and well done students. Confirmation Children are asked to attend one of this weekend s Masses (13/14 August). Could children please let Father Peter know they are there prior to Mass starting as during Mass, the Confirmation candidates will be asked to come forward and stand in front of the altar to receive the Creed. The practice for the Rite of Confirmation is on Tuesday 16 August at 6pm in the Church. All candidates are asked to be there to see where they will be sitting, get readings and to run through the ceremony. Sponsors are not required for the practice. The Confirmation ceremony will take place at 7pm on Thursday 18 August. Bishop Brian Finnegan will confirm the children at this time. Feast of the Assumption Monday is the Feast of the Assumption of Mary. From the Catholic Encyclopedia comes this definition: this feast has a double object: (1) the departure of Mary from this life; (2) the assumption of her body into heaven. It is the principal feast of the Blessed Virgin. The doctrine of the Assumption says that at the end of her life on earth Mary was assumed, body and soul, into heaven. It s also necessary to keep in mind what the Assumption is about. Mary did not ascend into heaven. Christ, by his own power, ascended into heaven. Mary was assumed or taken up into heaven by God. She didn t do it under her own power. Monday is a holy day of obligation. Mass is at 7am in Boonah and 6.30pm in Peak Crossing. Glossary continued Blessing - When God blesses, he passes on life, strength and peace to his people. When we bless someone, we pray that God will give life, strength and happiness to that person. Body of Christ - The term refers to: 1. The human body of Jesus, 2. The sacrament of the real presence of Jesus Christ under the appearance of bread and wine, 3. All Christians who are united with Christ through baptism and as one body when their minds and hearts are in harmony with Jesus Christ. Just a thought... If you are living like there is no God, you d better make sure you re right.
