2 EASTER LITURGY AT MYRTLE BEACH HIGH SCHOOL AUDITORIUM Welcome to St. Andrew s Easter Liturgy Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord April 16, 2017 Christ is risen! Let us rejoice and celebrate God s gift of new life. We welcome parishioners and visitors from all over the world who come together today to celebrate the Resurrection of Christ. Please help build community by introducing yourselves to those around you as you take your seats. Your full, active, and conscious participation in Liturgy can effectively transform this building into a magnificent church of prayer! We gather this day to celebrate the central mystery of Christianity: that Jesus Christ is alive and well, ever-present in our midst! As these Easter events are proclaimed, may our hearts burn with renewed zeal for the Faith. With Christians of every generation, may we recognize Jesus and accept him into our hearts. We pray that our unity with one another will give us courage to be instruments of hope and peace in a world that is ravaged with discord, war, terror, injustice, and secularization. God bless you and thank you for being here today! Have a wonderful day and a great holiday in the Myrtle Beach area! ENTRANCE ANTIPHON 2

CONGREGATIONAL HYMNS: THE STRIFE IS O ER ALLELUIA! ALLELUIA! LET THE HOLY ANTHEM RISE Let the holy anthem rise, And the choirs of heaven chant it in the temple of the skies: Let the mountains skip with gladness, And the joyful valleys ring With hosannas in the highest To our Savior and our King! Like the sun from out of the wave, He has risen up in triumph from the darkness of the grave. He s the splendor of the nations, He s the lamp of end-less day; He s the very Lord of glory Who is risen up today! He has burst our prison bars; He has lifted up the portals of our home beyond the stars: He has won for us our freedom, Neath his feet our foes are trod; He has purchased back our birthright To the kingdom of our God! Blessed Jesus, make us rise From the life of this corruption To the life that never dies. May your glory be our portion, When the days of time are past, And the dead shall be awakened By the trumpet s mighty blast! The strife is o er, the battle done; now is the Victor s triumph won; O let the song of praise be sung: The pow rs of death have done their worst, But Christ their legions has dispersed; Let shouts of praise and joy outburst: On the third morn he rose again, Glorious in majesty to reign; O let us swell the joyful strain: O Risen Lord, all praise to thee, who from our sin has set us free, that we may live eternally! 4

6 EASTER LITURGY AT MYRTLE BEACH HIGH SCHOOL AUDITORIUM LAMB OF GOD COMMUNION RITE Communion Hymns THE DAY OF RESURRECTION 6 GUIDELINES FOR THE RECEPTION OF HOLY COMMUNION As Catholics, we fully participate in the celebration of the Mass when we receive Holy Communion, the true Body and Blood of the Lord. Yet, we Catholics should receive Holy Communion only when we are living in communion with the Catholic Church and in the state of sanctifying grace and have made the appropriate fast from food and drink. Because of the connection we draw between being in full communion with the Catholic Church and receiving Holy Communion, we cannot invite those who are not Catholic to share in Holy Communion with us. Still, we welcome all to this celebration of the Mass as our brothers and sisters, and pray that our common baptism and the action of the Holy Spirit will one day draw us closer that all may be one. (John 17:22) The day of resurrection! Earth, spread the news abroad; the Paschal feast of gladness, the Paschal feast of God. From death to life eternal, from earth to heaven s height, our Savior Christ has brought us, the glorious Lord of Light. Our hearts be free from evil, that we may see aright the Savior resurrected in his eternal light; and hear his message plainly, delivered calm and clear; Rejoice with me in triumph, be glad and do not fear. His love is everlasting; His mercies never cease; the resurrected Savior, will all our joys increase. He ll keep us in his favor, supplying holy grace, to all his pilgrim people who seek his heavenly place. Now let the heavens be joyful! And earth her song begin! The whole world keep high triumph, and all that is therein! Let all things in creation their notes of gladness blend, for Christ the Lord is risen, our joy that has no end.

7 EASTER LITURGY AT MYRTLE BEACH HIGH SCHOOL AUDITORIUM COMMUNION HYMNS (CONTINUED) O SONS AND DAUGHTERS 1. O sons and daughters, let us sing! The King of heav n the glorious King, O'er death today rose triumphing. 2. That Easter morn, at break of day, The faithful women went their way To seek the tomb where Jesus lay. 3. An angel clad in white they see, Who sat, and spoke unto the three, "Your Lord has gone to Galilee." 4. That night the apostles met in fear; Amid them came their Lord most dear, And said, "My peace be on all here." 5. When Thomas first the tidings heard, How they had seen the risen Lord, He doubted the disciples word. 6. "My pierced side, O Thomas, see; My hands, my feet, I show to thee; Not faithless but believing be." 7. No longer Thomas then denied, He saw the feet, the hands, the side; "Thou art my Lord and God," he cried. 8. How blest are they who have not seen, And yet whose faith has constant been, For they eternal life shall win. 9. On this most holy day of days, To God your hearts and voices raise, In laud, and jubilee and praise. Choir 10 & 12 Masses: Earth, Earth Awake! RECESSIONAL: CONCLUDING RITE Jesus Christ Is Risen Today 1. Jesus Christ is ris n today, Our triumphant holy day, Who did once upon the cross, Suffer to redeem our loss. 2. Hymns of praise then let us sing, Unto Christ, our heav nly King, Who endured the cross and grave, Sinners to redeem and save. 3. But the pains which he endured, Our salvation have procured; Now he reigns above as King, Where the angels ever sing. 4. Sing we to our God above, Praise eternal as his love, One true God by all confessed, Father, Son and Spirit blest. 7

Phone or address: cjwalters@catholicsforfreedomofreligion.org WORD OF LIFE It is not only a personal but a social concern which we must all foster: a concern to make unconditional respect for human life the foundation of a renewed society. ~ Pope Saint John Paul II, The Gospel of Life (Evangelium Vitae, no. 77) 1995 Libreria Editrice Vaticana As Catholic Christians, one of the implications of our belief in the Incarnation is that it matters how we treat people in the here and now, and a respect for the dignity of each human being is at the core of our beliefs about abortion and other life issues. Whether the individual in question is a preborn child, a senior at the end of life, a convicted killer, or a person with disabilities, how we treat each person reflects our own humanity. There can be no compromise with the standard Jesus set. ~ Most Rev. Joseph E. Kurtz, Archbishop of Louisville, promoting the Sanctity of Life with Courage, Compassion, and Civility, January 27,

13 CATECHISM OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH Big News: the Catechism of the Catholic Church is back in the Pews! 7,534 went home already! One of the greatest achievements of Pope John Paul II was the promulgation of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. This Catechism will serve as the standard for all future catechisms. A sure norm for teaching the Faith, as the Pope said. Please take and study this Catechism in your own home. This Catechism costs $5.00 each. Inside the front cover of each book you will find an ENVELOPE as follows: Dear Sister or Brother in Christ: This Catechism of the Catholic Church is a most handy summary of the Faith that we profess as Christians. We hope you will take it to your home and read it. We would thank you for helping out with the costs of this ministry - at $5.00 for each copy of this Catechism - if you are able to donate that amount (or more, or less) by placing your donation in this envelope and then into the collection basket. Be blessed in the study of your Catechism. PARKING CHURCH PARKING: See the green NO PARKING: See the red. No parking is allowed on either side of the 37th Street from the REC to Oak Street.
