3 THE RESURRECTION OF OUR LORD EASTER DAY April 1, 2018 AS WE GATHER Christ is risen! Blessings to you this Easter Sunday. The Bible teaches many things, and all are important. But the Epistle today from 1 Corinthians 15 speaks about what is of first importance: that Christ died for our sins, that He was buried, and that He has been raised, in accordance with the Scriptures. As we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord, we focus on those things of first importance. We confess our shameful thoughts about our leaders, enemies, and strangers. We confess our inappropriate words spoken to our families, friends, and colleagues. We confess our inappropriate actions toward our neighbors. For the sake of the risen Christ, forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we follow in His footsteps both now and when He returns in glory. Amen. 4

5 P: If Christ had not been raised from the dead, we would still be dead in our trespasses and sins, but Christ rose from the grave, and death no longer has dominion over Him! God did this in accordance with the Scriptures to forgive our sins. As a called and ordained servant of the risen Christ and by His authority, I forgive your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. C: Amen. We look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen. Help us focus our eyes on the things of first importance: the death and resurrection of Jesus for our forgiveness, through the same Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. P: Lord, You sent a messenger to proclaim Jesus resurrection to the women on Easter morning. Inspire us to share the message of Jesus resurrection throughout the world, for Christ is risen! C: He is risen indeed! Alleluia! P: Lord, there are many in this world who have been abused, neglected, and abandoned, suffering at the hands of evil people. Spread Christ s resurrection victory into their lives of pain and hopelessness. Raise them from darkness into Your light, for Christ is risen! C: He is risen indeed! Alleluia! P: Lord, send healing and care to all who are sick, injured, and recovering, [especially... ]. SILENT PRAYERS The congregation is encouraged to take a few moments to pray silently for anything that weighs heavily on our hearts. We are also encouraged to pray for those in our lives who do not know Christ that the Holy Spirit may work powerfully to bring them to saving faith. SACRAMENT We believe, teach and confess that in the Lord s Supper, Christ comes to us and his body and blood are really present to forgive our sins and assure us of everlasting life and salvation. We, as baptized believers, prepare for Communion by examining ourselves, repenting of our sins, anticipating our Lord s forgiveness and drawing on Christ s power in the Sacrament to help us live an amended life for Christ. We will behave in a spirit of forgiveness always speaking well of others with love and kindness knowing that God created every human being in His image and we will always show respect for others despite our mutual failures, acknowledging shortfalls and willing to forget prior harms. 2.
