3 Tenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Page 3 June 10, 2018 A MESSAGE FROM OUR PASTOR One thing that I have learned throughout my life in the Church is that there are a lot of items that are used for liturgical functions. Often, we are only vaguely familiar with something, even though we see it or encounter it every time we come to Mass. Therefore, I offer the following items for reflection: Altar A table on which the Eucharistic sacrifice is celebrated. There is an ancient tradition that the relics of martyrs and other saints can be incorporated into the design and construction of a fixed altar. Ambry A small boxlike recess, set into the wall or altar of a church, which is used for the reservation of the holy oils that are used in the celebration of the sacraments of baptism, confirmation, holy orders, and the anointing of the sick. (At Saint Teresa, the Ambry is in the side altar on which the statue of Mary rests.) Tabernacle A receptacle for the exclusive reservation of the Blessed Sacrament (Eucharist). According to the Code of Canon Law, it should be situated in some part of the church which is distinguished, conspicuous, beautifully decorated, and suitable for prayer. (At Saint Teresa, the golden Tabernacle is in the center of the high altar.) Roman Missal Another name for the Sacramentary, the Roman Missal is a liturgical book that contains the liturgy of the Mass, including introductory instructions and prayer-texts for the celebration of Mass in the Roman Rite. It is the book you see used by a priest when reading prayers at Mass. Lectionary A book containing the Scripture readings, including the Gospels, which are required to be used for Mass. Eucharist A word from the Greek eucharistia, meaning thanksgiving. Eucharist is the sacrament of the body and blood of Jesus Christ, instituted at the Last Supper. In the Eucharist, Jesus is present, body, soul, and divinity, under the forms of bread and wine. The Reverend Edward J. This love of Christ for us was the moving force of all he did and suffered for us -- in Nazareth, on the Cross, in giving Himself in the Blessed Sacrament, in His teaching and healing, in His praying and working. When we speak of the Sacred Heart, we mean Jesus showing us His Heart, Jesus all love for us and all lovable. Blessing House Lorain, OH A BIG thank you to all who recently purchased a copy of A Bath and A Nap for Moses. We sold 31 books for a total of $465. All proceeds support Blessing House and the wonderful work they do to keep children safe. There are a few additional books available. The staff at Gordon Food Service on Abbe Road, has been extremely helpful and kind to St. Teresa of Avila Parish over the years. With the help of Greg Smail, manager at GFS, and other employees, we have been able to purchase many food items and other supplies for Fish Fry, Saturday Suppers, and other events. St. Teresa has a "Gordon GO!" rewards program set up, which accumulates points from purchases made. These points are then used to purchase future items. Any person who shops at Gordon's can simply tell the cashier when checking out to please put the points for that purchase on St. Teresa's account and we can use those points for our parish. Please shop at Gordon's, donate your points to St. Teresa, and thank the staff there for their kind help! SATURDAY NIGHT SUPPER Our next Saturday Night Supper will take place on June, 30, 2018 from 5:30-7:00 p.m. Watch the bulletin for the menu and dates of ticket sales. Rhoda Wise was a mystic & stigmatic who received many miracles & visits from both Jesus & St. Theresa the Little Flower. Many have reported miracles from just stepping foot in her home.
