1 ROSARY HOUSE SPIRITUAL LIFE CENTRE 2018 No reira, ka kiia toku whare, he whare inoi mo nga iwi katoa Isaiah 56:7 Therefore, my house will be called a house of prayer for everyone Isaiah 56:7 A non-residential Centre for prayer and contemplation; retreats, prayer days, spiritual direction, programmes and seminars which promote spiritual development. Rosary House, 22 Gracefield Ave, Christchurch 8013 Phone (03) roho@xtra.co.nz God s desire for us invites our response to this outpouring of love and mercy Do we know how to dream, to long for God, to expect the newness [God] brings, or do we let ourselves be swept along by life, like dry branches before the wind?... We may ask ourselves what star we have chosen to follow in our lives... The Lord s star, however, may not always overwhelm by its brightness, but it is always there, ever kindly: it takes you by the hand in life and accompanies you. It does not promise material reward, but ensures peace and grants, as it did to the Magi, exceedingly great joy (Mt 2:10) Pope Francis, 6 Jan Prayer Series - Noticing God s Presence Tuesdays 20 and 27 February am (Cuppa available prior to 10.30) Reflection starters, scripture and sacred music invite participants into extended time of silent prayer. 2 Lenten Retreat The Way of the Cross - Stations of the Soul And thine own soul a sword shall pierce. Luke 2:35 Joy Ryan-Bloore, Jungian Analyst Friday 23 March 6.45pm - 9pm Saturday 24 March 9.30am pm The events of Holy Week invite us to enter more fully into the Mystery of Christ as it continues to reveal itself in our lives and in the world; to become conscious that the Way of the Cross is the blueprint by which we navigate the stations of our own souls - take up our own Cross Matt.24:26 and follow in the footsteps of Jesus the Christ and Mary his Mother who have walked before us. to means (Note new venue) Spirituality of Ageing Dr Anna Holmes Thursday 5 April 2pm pm and repeated on Friday 6 April 7pm pm Spirituality of Ageing: Who do people say that I am? We grow from the moment we are born until we die. The problem that we have, is that letting go in order to grow is difficult. Dr Anna will share from her research and invite us to reflect on how our experience of ageing impacts on our spirituality and on our image of God. Suggested Koha/Donation $10 Wednesday 18 April 10.30am 2.30pm (Cuppa available prior to 10.30) Come and rest awhile. Prayer in the spirit of Easter. Scripture, music and images will support silent, Koha/Donation Slavery in the New Testament and Modern Human Slavery Presenter: Thursday 10 May pm Slavery is unseen, or side-stepped in translation, in gospel parables and the life of Jesus. Similarly, modern human slavery is unseen and not named for what it is. About 40 million people are enslaved worldwide and an estimated 800 in Aotearoa New Zealand. We all have a role to play in bringing modern human slavery to an end. Slavery flows into our homes, offices, and schools through many of the products we buy. The presenter attended the 2017 The Tip of the Iceberg Conference (sponsored by the Wellington Anglican Cathedral, USA Embassy and Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment). Koha/Donation Saturday 12 May 10.30am 2.30pm (Cuppa available prior to 10.30). Come and rest awhile. Prayer in the midst of daily life. Scripture, music and images will support silent,. Koha/Donation Prayer Series - Noticing God s Presence Tuesdays 15 and 22 May am (Cuppa available prior to 10.30) Reflection starters, scripture and sacred music invite participants into extended time of silent prayer. Sessions end with an opportunity for brief sharing or listening. Cooking Up a Personal Worldview and Becoming Oneself More Deeply Allan Bloore, Jungian Analyst Saturday 26 May 10.00am pm A world view is a picture of the world, and of oneself. As one sees the world so one sees oneself. To have a worldview means to have the best possible knowledge of what the world is and who I am. Jung CW16:81... The great decisions in human life usually have far more to do with the instincts and other mysterious unconscious factors than with conscious and well-meaning reasonableness. The shoe that fits one person pinches another there is no universal recipe for living. CW8:698 For those who consciously take on the task of worldview construction, death becomes a symbolic event as they fall from the security of collective consciousness, the consciousness of the group, into the cooking pot of the unconscious. Fear stops many from taking the plunge, but if they baulk at the challenge, they will discover a dish of a more sinister kind appearing on their plate, unknowingly contributing to the problems of the era rather than becoming a part of their solution. We are in the soup that is going to be cooked for us, says Jung, whether we claim to have invented it or not We are threatened with universal genocide if we cannot work out the way of (inner) salvation by a symbolic death. CW18:1661 The seminar will explore this Jungian theme and assist participants to reflect on its application to their lives.

3 Venue: Mary Potter Community Centre, to means Seminar Midlife Spirituality Anne Shave Tuesday 29 May pm and repeated Thursday 31 May pm In this seminar we identify some of the challenges and opportunities of midlife and explore its potential to be a time of discovery and spiritual growth. There will be some opportunity for personal reflection. People of all ages are welcome to attend. Koha/donation Tuesday 12 June 10.30am 2.30pm (Cuppa available prior to 10.30) Come and rest awhile. Prayer in the midst of daily life. Scripture, music and images will support silent,. Koha/Donation Weekend Workshop Everything is Interconnected: Completing the Works of God (Gospel according to John) Friday 15 June 7-9pm; Saturday 16 June 9.30am 4pm Everything is interconnected and this invites us to develop a spirituality of... global solidarity which flows from the mystery of the Trinity (Laudato Si, 240). In this reflective time, we explore God creating with two hands, that of the Word and that of the Spirit (St. Irenaeus) to complete the works of God. We participate in whakawhanaungatanga - te tangi o papatuânuku me te tangi o hunga rawakore/making right relationship happen by hearing the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor.. Koha/Donation The Shifting Ground of the Ageing Process - Later Life Transformation Joy Ryan-Bloore, Jungian Analyst Saturday 30 June 10am pm The afternoon of life is just as full of meaning as the morning; only its meaning and purpose are different. Jung CW7:114 As we enter the afternoon of life our inner ground inevitably shifts because this transformation requires the breakdown of the old and the reversal of all ideals and values cherished in the earlier stages of life,cw8:778 - in order to make room for the new. Entering this transition demands a conscious participation in the cycle of suffering, death and rebirth. Our dreams often announce this change. This seminar will address how we cooperate with it; how it affects our faith development, increasing diminishment and attitudes towards sickness and death. It is suitable for all ages and a vital education for later life. There will be opportunity for reflection; and sharing of dreams and experiences according to the wishes of participants. 4 Scripture Series Gospel according to Mark Year B Tuesday 21 August 7.30pm 9pm This session of the Sunday Gospels Series will focus on the Gospel Readings of the 22nd to 33rd of Ordinary Time of Sunday Roman Lectionary and the 15th - 26th Sundays after Pentecost of Revised Common Lectionary for Year B (2 September - 18 November). Using lectio divina we shall explore: the end of the Galilean Ministry (Mk 7:1-8:30); Jesus and the Disciples on the Way to Jerusalem (8:31-10:52); and Endings in Jerusalem (11:1-13:37). Prayer Series - Noticing God s Presence Tuesdays 4 and 11 September am (Cuppa available prior to 10.30) Reflection starters, scripture and sacred music invite participants into extended time of silent prayer. Sessions end with an opportunity for brief sharing or listening. Te Manawa Atawahai Catherine McAuley Centre Dreams as the Cooking Pot of Interior Development and Worldview Construction Allan Bloore, Jungian Analyst Saturday 22 September 10.00am pm COOKING DREAM: As a teacher I am conducting an experiment with a small class of young pupils in a brand new room. The only equipment is a couple of stoves out the front on which is sitting a small mass of grey porridge-like material, not in a container. It suddenly starts to reproduce itself and grow into a great mountain of material. I call for the fire extinguisher and spray the growing mass. The paint work in the room is destroyed but the damage is only superficial. This dream expresses the little-known purpose underlying many dreams, which is to cook up the inner development in consciousness and the worldview of the dreamer. The brand new classroom setting with the dreamer teaching young pupils is a symbolic image of the necessary cooperation of the dreamer with the unconscious in the process of becoming more conscious, and developing a personal worldview. In the dreams of midlife and beyond, this is a common theme, to be explored in depth in this Seminar. Bring some dreams. Mary Potter Community Centre, Bring own lunch, tea/coffee provided. to means. Guided/Directed Five Day Non-Residential Retreat Fr Brian Cummings SM Monday 1 October - Friday 5 October 10am- 4pm daily The Pilgrim : entering into the mystery of our lives through the dynamics of Ignatian pilgrimage. Cost $280 Monday 5 November 10.30am 2.30pm (Cuppa available prior to 10.30) Come and rest awhile. Prayer in the spirit of the season. Scripture, music and images will support silent,. Koha/Donation Scripture Series Gospel according to Luke Year C Tuesday 20 November pm 9pm In preparation for the new liturgical year which begins in Advent, this session will give an overview of the Gospel according to Luke to invite us to listen more deeply to the gospel readings of Year C. Advent Retreat The Christmas Mystery and the Journey of the Soul Christ always seeks the straw of the most desolate cribs to make his Bethlehem. Thomas Merton Joy Ryan-Bloore, Jungian Analyst Friday 30 November 6.45pm - 9pm Saturday 1 December 9.30am pm When we feel disturbed by our increasingly troubled world, God is revealed as a tiny child in the desolate cribs of our souls; weak, vulnerable and endangered by those who like Herod, seek to destroy him. Join with other seekers and contemplate the Mystery that when Elizabeth calls Mary the Mother of my Lord she is expressing an eternal truth that is replicated in the soul of every human person. CG Jung Mary Potter Community Centre, Bring own lunch, tea/coffee provided. Suggested contribution $60 or donation according to means
