2 From the Pastor Dear Friends in Christ, Tomorrow, I leave for ten days in Portugal. A few months ago, I received a phone call out of nowhere that a benefactor wanted to pay for a priest friend and me to go to Fatima during the 100th anniversary year. I never would have thought that in one year I would be able to go to two major Marian shrines, this after my trip to Walsingham in England in June. If you have any special prayer requests you want me to bring over to the shrine, please them to me by midnight tonight (19 November), so I can gather them and present them at the shrine. I know that for some of you it is difficult to go on pilgrimage, so please know that I am intentionally making this pilgrimage for those who can t go themselves. Follow along with me: I ll be posting pictures on the parish Facebook page, so please like that page (if you haven t already) via facebook.com/princeofpeacetaylors. In 1982, St John Paul II consecrated the world to Mary. In that act, he prayed: In entrusting to you, O Mother, the world, all individuals and peoples, we also entrust to you the consecration itself, for -the world's sake, placing it in your motherly Heart. Oh, Immaculate Heart! Help us to conquer the menace of evil, which so easily takes root in the hearts of the people of today, and whose immeasurable effects already weigh down upon our modern world and seem to block the paths towards the future! From famine and war, deliver us. From nuclear war, from incalculable self-destruction, from every kind of war, deliver us. From sins against the life of man from its very beginning, deliver us. From hatred and from the demeaning of the dignity of the children of God, deliver us. From every kind of injustice in the life of society, both national and international, deliver us. From readiness to trample on the commandments of God, deliver us.: From attempts to stifle in human hearts the very truth of God, deliver us. From sins against the Holy Spirit, deliver us, deliver us. Accept, O Mother of Christ, this cry laden with the sufferings of all individual human beings, laden with the sufferings of whole societies. Let there be revealed, once more. in the history of the world your infinite power of merciful Love. May it put a stop to evil. May it transform consciences. May your Immaculate Heart reveal for all the light of Hope. Please join me in praying that same prayer! 4 Happenings & Needs You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in Thee. - St. Augustine All are encouraged to adopt a weekly holy hour or stop by the Adoration Chapel for prayer. The following times are available for adoption: 8a & 4p Sundays 11a Tuesdays 12p Wednesdays 12a, 11a, 2p & 9p on Saturdays Contact Lisa Buss to obtain the code to the door at or adoration@princeofpeacetaylors.org. envelopes # 386 $18,191 loose cash $4,446 electronic deposits # 60 $4,434 total sunday offertory $27,071 weekly budget needed $25,000 surplus/(shortfall) $2,071 st vincent de paul society $6,400 special collections ($3,570 All Saints, $9,425 Adoration Chapel, $1,092 All Souls) $14,087 Men: I would like for you to read That Nothing May Be Lost: Reflections on Catholic Doctrine and Devotion by Father Paul Scalia. Fr Scalia is a priest of the Arlington diocese and son of recently deceased Supreme Court Judge Antonin Scalia. This wide ranging book talks about the role of grace, the sacraments, Mary and so much more in the life of Christian discipleship. Women: I invite you to read Daring to Hope: Finding God s Goodness in the Broken and the Beautiful by Katie Majors. Katie is a young American Protestant missionary who founded Amazima Ministries to spread the Gospel in Uganda. As a single woman, she adopted 14 orphans! She recounts her incredible story of God s faithfulness in a unique vocation of love and how she found a Christian helpmate in holy marriage. Married and Engaged Couples: I want to challenge you. I would like for you to read your book during Advent, and then in the new year, swap books with your partner. And I want you, as a New Years Resolution, already to schedule two date nights to go out and have a drink or a coffee and talk about what you ve read. I know it sounds silly, but I think when our couples can get together with a spiritual project and share their insights reading, it can be very powerful. You know how I am fond of classical Catholic spiritual literature. These two books are recent publications, and one written by a Protestant. But both works have a lot to nourish the soul. Advent is a time of new beginnings, and these two spiritual books have the possibility of really raising a lot of good discussions! CDs are available in the narthex and cost $4 each or 3 for $10. Please put money in black box beside CD holder. suggested title: The Logic of Being Catholic Dr. Ray Guarendi shares his story of how logic led him home to the Catholic Church. He found out that, contrary to his Protestant misunderstandings, the Church is coherent and never contradicts herself. Dr. Ray explains how the answers to his objections to Catholicism were both Biblical and believed by the earliest Christians. Explore the logic that led him to the fullness of truth. We re thrilled you re part of our parish family: Lindsey McCarthy and Family. Buy a 2018 Attraction Book from the Columbiettes for $20 at the Church and school office! Proceeds benefit the Carol Tonon Scholarship Fund for students. Since 2009 the Columbiettes have awarded $11,000 to students attending POPCS. The Parish Office will be closed Tuesday, 21 November at 12p and will reopen on Monday, 27 November.

6 Happenings & Needs We praise You O God, we acknowledge You to be the Lord: all the earth now worships you, the Father everlasting. To You all angels cry aloud, the heavens and all the powers therein; to You Cherubim and Seraphim continually do cry: Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord, God of Hosts, heaven and earth are full of the majesty of Your glory. The glorious company of the prophets praise You, the goodly fellowship of the prophets praise You, the noble army of martyrs praise You, the holy Church throughout all the world does acknowledge You: the Father of an infinite majesty, Your adorable true, and only Son, also the Holy Spirit, the counselor. You are the King of glory, O Christ. You are the everlasting Son of the Father. When you took upon Yourself to deliver man, You humbled yourself to be born of a virgin. When You had overcome the sharpness of death, You opened the kingdom of heaven to all believers. You sit at the right hand of God in the glory of the Father. We believe that You will come to be our judge. We therefore pray You help Your servants, whom You have redeemed with Your Precious Blood. Make them to be numbered with Your saints in glory everlasting. O Lord save Your people and bless Your heritage. Govern them and lift them up forever. Day by day we magnify You, and we worship Your name, world without end. Vouchsafe, O Lord, to keep us this day without sin. O Lord, have mercy upon us, have mercy upon us. O Lord, let Your mercy be upon us, as our trust is in You. O Lord, in You I trusted, let me never be confounded. Amen. Fathers and daughters enjoyed a special evening at the annual Father/Daughter Dance this past weekend! Logo items make great stocking stuffers! Prices: t-shirt ($8) and 24-oz Tervis tumbler ($15). Contact Angela Calabro to purchase!
7 Happenings & Needs Christmas trees and lights to decorate our Church, Parish Office and Chapel are needed! If you, your business or ministry would like to contribute, please send a check for $125 to the Parish Secretary, Maria Rauch and clearly mark Christmas Tree on the envelope and check. The sponsors of these trees will be listed in the bulletin! Please note that there will be no confession on Wednesday, 22 November. There will be Mass at 9a on Thursday, 23 November and 9a Friday, 24 November. Compline (also known as Night Prayer) is the final church service (or office) of the day in the Christian tradition of canonical hours. The prayers are always the same, so it is very easy to learn! We will have Compline on Sundays during Advent at 7.30p in the Church, beginning 3 December. Prepare for the coming of the Prince of Peace in this special way! Donate flowers in honor or in memory of a loved one this Christmas by returning your Christmas Flower Envelope no later than Monday, 18 December by noon. Advent wreaths will be on sale in the Narthex the weekend of November. Advent prayers will be printed in the bulletin during Advent. Stay tuned! Our Angel Tree will be located again in the Narthex starting in November. Please show your generosity in adopting one of our Angel Tree Kids. If you take an Angel Tree Card, sign your name and provide your phone number on the sheet provided next to the tree at our sign up table. Please purchase only the items that are on the card (in fairness to other kids that might be in the same family on a different card) and provide gift receipts for clothing. Please do not wrap gifts, instead put them in a gift bag with the Angel Tree Card attached to them. Thank you in advance for your generosity. On the weekend of 9-10 December, we will host a display of beautiful Olivewood hand carvings from Bethlehem for purchase. These carvings are made by Christians of Bethlehem who rely on them as their source of income. Due to the volatile situation and hardships of their home country, Christians in the Holy land used to be more than 30% of the population, but are now fewer than 1.5%. By sending the proceeds back to the craftsmen's families, this solution has allowed Christian families to remain in their homeland and work at their traditional crafts. The money flowing back to the families has allowed them to maintain a stable way of life and allowed them to work at what they know best. Thien Ngoc Pham & Ngo Thi Nguyen
