Anointing of the Sick Please call the Parish Office in case of serious illness or before surgery to arrange for a priest to celebrate the Sacrament. 2 Fr. Paul s Message Dear Families and Friends of St. Margaret Mary, Today is the second Sunday of Advent. Last week, we celebrated the first Sunday of Advent, the beginning of the Church s a new liturgical year, the time the Church offers the faithful to prepare for the coming of the Lord at Christmas. Advent is like a month-long retreat, a time of deeper prayer and recollection during which we turn from worldly concerns to God s concerns with renewed fervor, determined to make certain necessary decisions about our spiritual lives. The first decision we all need to make, indicated by last week s Word of God, is to be alert, that is, watchful for the Lord s coming for He is near. In His first coming, after centuries of longing and waiting, Jesus came through His Incarnation 2000 years ago, in humility and poverty, born of the Virgin, to save us from our sins. Few were watchful then, or as St. John stated: He came to His own but His own did not receive Him. The Nativity of our Lord is mainly what we remember and celebrate at Christmas time. In His second coming, Jesus will return in power, glory and majesty at the end of time, to judge the living and the dead. Hopefully, more than a few will be watchful and receive Him so as to share in His Resurrected and New Life eternally. But as our Lord said, When the Son of Man comes again, will there still be faith on the earth? But there is a third coming in which Jesus comes to us continually, each and every day, through the normal circumstances of our lives. He comes in a hidden way, almost in disguise, in many different ways through the inspirations and impulses of the Holy Spirit, in the people we meet along our daily way, in the persons of the poor who cross our path, in the living Word listened to and put into practice, through the power of the Sacraments but especially in the Holy Eucharist. In this third coming, Jesus comes to us not in poverty and humility, nor in glory and majesty, but invisibly to strengthen, console and heal us. Of course, there is a fourth coming, when Jesus will come to us, or rather call us to come to Him at the moment of our death. Far from being a fearful encounter, for His disciples, it will be a long-awaited reunion. So, during Advent, the Church always encourages us to be prepared for all the comings or Advents of the Lord. We must resolve to be prayerfully watchful, attentive to grace, always ready to receive Him worthily. May this year s Advent journey lead you and yours to the joys of Christmas! 5 The morning Bible Study Group meets every Thursday (except for holidays and vacations) from 10-11:30 a.m. in the St. Joseph Center. The Group, which is led by Fr. John, is continuing its study of St. Paul s Letter to the Ephesians (chapters 5 and 6). All are welcome to join, even if you have missed previous meetings or have never studied the Bible before. Please bring a Bible, or purchase a Bible for $10 at the first session that you attend. If you have any You have received them at important moments in life, now join Fr. Marinello as we breakdown each of the seven Sacraments and learn about graces God gives us thru these Sacraments. This is a three hour class that is offered at the parish and is very informative. If you are volunteering in the parish and have not yet taken the class or you took the class more than four years ago, you will need to take the class. All volunteers who have any contact with minors must be fingerprinted. If you are working with minors and have not been fingerprinted you must do so.
