2 Page 2 September 24, 2017 Pastor s Corner Last week we had a great start to our Religious Ed classes after the blessing for all our Catechists at the 9:00 Mass. What a blessing to see so many of our young parishioners so eager to come together and learn more about Christ and His Church and so many dedicated adults and young adults teaching them. The Annual Matching Fund Collection has brought in $29, (and we expect a few more gifts to come in still). I m so pleased by this generosity. Thank you! This amount has steadily risen over the past 3 years. 2015: $27.1K, 2016: $28.8K. (Although last year we did have an extraordinary gift of $10K that bumped this to $38K). This growth is another great sign of the energy of this parish and our dedication to the future. My roll as Director of Worship for the Diocese will have me traveling a bit the next weeks: Last Sunday was the Harvest Mass in North Bangor, this Sunday is the Marriage Jubilee at the cathedral, the following Sunday is the Blue Mass in Watertown, and October 7th is the diaconate Ordination. Come see where He leads you! 2017 Bishop s Fund Appeal As we begin Commitment Weekend for the 2017 Bishop s Fund Appeal, it is our hope that we can continue or increase our support to this vital Appeal. The theme of this year s Bishop s Fund Appeal is One Bread, One Body, One Family. Please prayerfully consider supporting the many good works of the Diocese. This year, any gifts received after the Appeal reaches its goal will be used to further supplement the Bishop s Good Samaritan Fund which assists families in need in our own community and throughout the Diocese. Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ, At the Eucharist, we come together to celebrate God s unconditional love for each of us and are nourished with the Bread of Life so that we might share that love with others in tangible ways. Mass strengthens our bond as a family of faith and challenges us to give witness to the love we have found in Jesus. One of the ways in which we can do this is through our support of the annual Bishop s Fund Appeal. This important Appeal provides support for our whole Diocesan family, impacting the lives of so many of our sisters and brothers. We are able to: Encourage women and men to discern a Church vocation with the assistance of our diocesan Vocations Office; Offer programs and events such as Pre-Cana and Family Guggenheim that help to enrich marriages and families through the efforts of our diocesan Family Life Ministry; Assist parents who choose a Catholic School Education for their children with financial aid from the Tuition Assistance Program; Provide opportunities for our young people to express and celebrate their Catholic faith by participating in diocesan Youth Rallies and enjoying Camp Guggenheim; Bring solace to the sick, the hurting and the discouraged, by offering them hope and prayer through the assistance offered by the Bishop s Good Samaritan Fund. We hope to raise $1,300,000 for the ministries and programs supported by the Bishop s Fund. In 2016, requests for assistance with medical and prescription expenses, heating and utility costs, and rent or mortgage payments reached nearly $115,000. Many of the requests came from parents with young children who too often must choose between buying food or medicines and paying the rent or mortgage. What a terrible position to be in! Similar to last year, any funds raised over our goal will be used to further supplement the Bishop s Good Samaritan Fund. I invite every family in the Diocese of Ogdensburg to prayerfully consider making a gift to the Bishop s Fund Appeal. Can you imagine all that we will be able to accomplish if every family participates in this year s Appeal? Hope in Jesus. This is the prayer of Bishop LaValley as he consecrates the entire Diocese to the Immaculate Heart of Mary on October 22nd. Please join him as we mark the 100th Anniversary of the apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima and the 65th Anniversary of the Dedication of the Cathedral. A Novena prayer will be prayed across the diocese from October 13th to the 22nd. On Sunday the 22nd there will be a Rosary Rally and Holy Mass of Consecration at the Cathedral at 2:00 pm.
