JOE Over the last 8-9 months, I ve written a few times about Frassati House a new apostolate starting here in St. André s Parish, bringing young Catholic men and women to our community to do the work of the New Evangelization in youth and young adult ministry, adult faith formation, and retreats. I m happy to say that the fifth parish missionary we ll be hosting this year arrives this weekend! Over the next couple of weeks, we ll be introducing you to them and the important work they ll be doing. Of course, those missionaries already here are already hard at work; a number of our junior high and high school aged members have come to the events they ve planned, and I hope many of our young adult parishioners will come to enjoy the "game night" scheduled next week. Many thanks to all of you who will take a few moments this Sunday or next to complete a census card before or after Mass. Thanks, too, to the volunteers who are helping us to wrap up this final phase of our parish census project. I also want to thank all of you who have taken time to share your thoughts on the parish property issues I raised in last Sunday s bulletin in particular, the likely official closure and sale of the oratories in Lake Titus and Owls Head. Through our prayers and concrete acts of solidarity, the gift of faith is shared with others. This year s celebration is further enriched as we mark the 50th Anniversary of the Second Vatican Council s Decree on the Missionary Activity of the Church (Ad Gentes). The pilgrim Church on earth is missionary by its very nature. In his message for World Mission Sunday, Pope Francis writes, Mission is part of the grammar of faith, something essential for those who listen to the voice of the Spirit who whispers Come and Go forth. Those who follow Christ cannot fail to be missionaries All of us are called to be on mission. On World Mission Sunday, our diocesan family joins our sisters and brothers around the world. Responding to the voice of the Spirit, we connect with our world on mission: with Africa, where six million children receive an education in some 16,000 Church-run elementary schools with Asia, where those who are sick are provided with loving care at 5,000 Catholic hospitals and small clinics with the Americas, where catechists travel to remote areas to bring the Good News of God s great love to families with Oceania, where young men are supported in their studies for the priesthood, to bring the Lord s healing hope and peace to those in need and with Europe, where new churches are being built to welcome faith communities, renewed after years of persecution. Your financial assistance on World Mission Sunday, offered in the collection for the Society for the Propagation of the Faith, supports such efforts in the many young mission dioceses in our world, reaching the poorest communities with a message of hope and healing, mercy and peace. Pope Francis emphasizes that mission is a passion for Jesus and at the same time a passion for his people. There are some copies of the Catholic Yearbook, made possible by our local funeral directors, near the racks in each church. A GREAT CD: Blessed Pier Giorgio - Man of the Beatitudes is a new CD about a young man who enjoyed all the good things of life. But he especially found that prayer and service to others - bringing them to Christ - gave him true happiness. Listen to the story of the young man St. John Paul II called the "man of the beatitudes". He is the patron of the missionary apostolate now beginning in our parish. A great way to learn more about him and his life.

Elm Street. Annual Scouting Food Drive The annual scouting for food to benefit the Good Samaritan Good Pantry will be held with bad drop-off in the Village of Malone on October 17th. The Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts will return on October 24th to collect non-perishable food items. 31st ECUMENICAL CHRISTMAS CONCERT Sunday, December 6, 2014 at 4:00pm St. Joseph s Church, Malone Be a Part of the Ecumenical Concert Choir! There will be seven rehearsals held at St. Joseph s Church from 6:00-7:30 p.m. beginning on October 18th and going through December 4th. Those interested in singing in the choir are invited to attend the first rehearsal on October 18th. All proceeds from this event will remain in the North Country to benefit the patients and families served by Hospice of the North Country. All rehearsals are from 6-7:30pm. DIOCESAN NEWS Director of Youth Ministry The Roman Catholic Diocese of Ogdensburg is expanding the search for a Director of Youth Ministry. The position is responsible for the planning and implementation of the diocesan youth program. Applicants must be a practicing Catholic. Applicants should have a Bachelor s Degree with extensive experience in the fields of religious education and faith formation, successful experience as youth minister, knowledge of current catechetical documents, familiarity with the characteristics of youth s personal, spiritual and emotional development, proven interpersonal skills and competency in administration and the use of technology. Deadline for application is October 23, COMMUNITY EVENTS St. Mary s, Ft. Covington - Annual Turkey Dinner On Sunday, October 18th from 11am to 2pm, St. Mary s in Ft. Covington will be holding their Annual Turkey Dinner. Menu includes: roast turkey with all the trimmings, beverages and desserts. 5 Page Five St. André Bessette Parish, Malone, New York October 18, 2015 Sacrament of Baptism Parents who wish to have a child baptized should contact Rev. Joseph Giroux to make arrangements for the date and for a program of preparation. Parents are highly encouraged to make arrangements at least three months before the child is born, as the Catholic Church encourages Baptism for infants as soon as possible after birth. Adults and older children (seven years or older) interested in Baptism or entering into full communion with the Catholic Church should inquire about the program of preparation (R.C.I.A.: the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults). Sacrament of Matrimony A Catholic wishing to be married in one of our churches should contact one of the priests at least six months prior to the desired date in order to begin making arrangements. A program of preparation is required. The parish should be contacted before any other plans are made for example, the wedding reception. Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick For those preparing for surgery, nursing home residents, or the homebound, contact one of the parish priests to make arrangements to be anointed. For those in the hospital (especially in the event of an emergency), ask the hospital staff to contact the priest on call.
