2 Today we hear of a man named Jairus, who is going through a great crisis - probably the greatest of his life. Many of us have gone through similar trials. Whether it be our own failing health, an illness of a family member, the loss of our job or just unending financial troubles, we have an idea of what Jairus is going through. It is exactly his crisis that turns him to Christ. Probably in the midst our of own crisis is the time when we remember God the most. God often allows us to go through these unsettling moments in our life to wake us up spiritually. These situations call us to remember Him, allow us an opportunity to rededicate ourselves to Him and to place all of our trust in Him.~ Fr. EASTERN ORTHODOX WOMEN S GUILD OF GREATER CLEVELAND cordially invites you to attend the meeting at Archangel Michael Church, Monday, November 11, at 6:00pm. The speaker will be Sister Magdalena, from Transfiguration Monastery. She will be speaking about their book, "Bodily Resurrection". This book was written by the Sisters of the Monastery to examine the issues of death, burial, and resurrection from an Orthodox Christian perspective. We hope you will join us, to enjoy the discussion and also to meet many other women from the Orthodox community. Since our Church will be hosting this event. if you are able to donate a dish of bakery, it would be greatly appreciated. MICHAEL S DAY BANQUET: Our parish s Temple Feast (Xramovoi Prazdnik) is on November 8 the feast day of the Holy Archangel Michael and all the Bodiless Hosts of Heaven. On the following Sunday, November 10, we will hold our Annual Parish Banquet in our Woodside Party Center. If this is your 50 th anniversary year, please inform the church office as soon possible so that we may acknowledge you and present you with a gift on that day. It is often said that, Promptness is the politeness of kings. However, when it comes to the Divine Liturgy and other services of the Church, promptness is politeness to the King! This amount includes all pledge contributions and offerings. Last month we collected $21793, leaving/providing us $8057 under/over our monthly requirement. This is your church; your support is needed, so please give honestly and generously. Thank you! Q: Why did the Israelites describe the Promised Land as the land of milk and honey? A: Because the Israelites were predominately shepherds, sheep s milk was one of the most important staples besides bread to the Hebrews. They drank it and used it to make cheese and butter. Honey was more of a luxury item to the Jews, found only where bees could find flowers to 4

5 collect nectar. Therefore, to say that a land overflowed with milk and honey, would mean that there were sufficient pastures for their animals to graze, flowers and fruit trees for the bees, and plenty of water for them to drink. Some biblical scholars suggest that the saying land of milk and honey may be an example of Hebrew merism the literary use of opposites to cover the spectrum of everything in between (like saying, from A to Z;) reminding the Israelites that the Promised Land contains absolutely everything needful and in abundance. ~ Fr. NEWLY DEPARTED: Please remember in your prayers the newly departed handmaidens of God: Anna Trask who fell asleep in the Lord on Saturday, October 26 and was buried from the Church on Wednesday, October 30; and Anna Fedonhk who fell asleep in the Lord on Thursday, October 31, funeral arrangements are pending. May the Kingdom of Heaven be theirs! May their Memory be Eternal!
